CONCEPTUAL EXPERIENTIAL MODEL

This project is a funerary complex, built atop an existing mausoleum, that addresses returning humility and humbleness to the view of life and death. A conceptual experiential model evolved into architectural spaces divided by planes. Processing forward, each new threshold has a darker modulation of light and a darker wood grain, separating the experience from the previous and from the next. The natural light is decreased until the darkest and most humbling experience is presented, after which a light glass structure completes the cathartic experience.

FACADE DIAGRAM

This two week intensive design studio was based on the idea of a found artifact in Rome, with the architectural design celebrating and honoring the important artifacts that were discovered, in this case it was fabrics. The architectural interpretation should re ect the characteristics o Roman lifestyle, drinking, eating, markets, and an investment in social life. My role in the team design was sharing in the design process, the site plan, the abstract render, the section perspective, and general graphic choices.

FLOOR PLAN

After analyzing the painting “American Gothic”, Mondrian style drawings were done capturing key elements and then a spatial design was created from those drawings. Space/void is seen from the top face, hierarchy is seen from the front face, and color is seen rom the side aces A ter makin a physical model and nali in the design three iterations were made by making cuts along the x-axis, y-axis, and z-axis, the latter being used for the next project.

ITERATION 4

After examining the “American Gothic” painting I designed a space ased off o the analysis o the space/void hierarchy and color. Next, I took the two levels of a z-axis cut spatial design and drew the tartan lines of both levels and overlaid them on a single plane. I then chose dominant lines and made forms that ended up creating these wrapping shapes around a central space. ITERATION 3

The freshman year studio curriculum was designed to give the students a foundation in architectural design through hand drafting, hand cut model building, 3D printed model building, laser cut model building, rendering, and the basics of Adobe products. This was done by reproducing architecture from Mario Botta, Alberto Campo Baeza, Tadao Ando, and Steven Holl.
