//Monthly Identity Project Monthly Identity Instructor Charmaine Martinez Course Art 237 - Graphic Design 1 Typefaces None Programs Adobe Illustrator + Adobe Indesign

The objective of this project was design eight graphics in the same style that could illustrate my life without the use of any words or descriptions. I decided to tackle this objective in a very simple way: describing the activities I do the most in one month. Once I decided upon my time frame, picking my hobbies, duties and past time pleasures was simply a matter of looking back at what my day to day life consists of and going with the eight activities I do the most. Graphically, I choose to go with icons in order to demonstrate my affinity for clean yet bold styles of design.

The objective of this project was to research and learn about an issue pertaining to climate change, specially the box jellyfish and its rising population risks. We broke up into sections tackling different issues as to why this topic mattered and why our audience should even care about this animal. Through many sources and journals we were able to come up with three major reasons as to why the box jellyfish species has thrived due to climate change and we then proceeded to produce our paper in response to our findings. With this journal, we kept the palette to only five colors, font family to only two and the layout to a very simple atheistic in order to produce a professional, yet effective way to illustrate our findings.

The objective of this project was to take the information from our research paper and translate it into an info graphic poster. Luckily our team was able to find many useful statics from the research phase that allowed us to have a wide variety of facts to choose from when approaching this design. I decided to make my poster an informative story that begins with a graphic explaining what the box jellyfish is, in order to educate the average person as to what this uncommon sea dweller even is. From there, I used the facts about what this jellyfish has done in the past that has made it such an issue and cause for alarm. Finally, I conclude by sharing what the future could look like if this issue continues at the rate it is currently going.

Jellyificaiton of the Oceans 2,000 Jellyfish Species Have expanded their ranges due to warmer ocean temperatures, disturbing neighboring ecosystems.

100,000 Fish Died in 2007 because of jellyfish blooms decimating Northern Ireland’s salmon farm killing

CO2 Increase Feces from jellyfish is rich with carbon which bacteria use for respiration, thus produces carbon dioxide that is put in the atmosphere.

They posses brains capable of learning, memory, and guiding complex behaviors used in active hunting of medium-sized fish and crustaceans

Unlike other jellyfish, box jellyfish have 24 eyes, making it possible for them to find prey and to escape predators easier.

A box jellyfish can swim at speeds of up to 4 mph, which is faster than most people can swim and kill as many as 100 other people per year.

The venom in a single box jellyfish can kill 60 people and 3 minutes after a person is stung by a box jellyfish, he/she may die.

30% Acidic Increase in ocean levels compared to thirty years ago, leading jellyfish number to increase as other fish to decrease

How Future Oceans Will Look

2,000 Jellyfish Species have expanded their ranges due to warmer ocean temperatures, disturbing neighboring ecosystems.

100,000 Fish died in 2007 because of jellyfish blooms decimating Northern Ireland’s salmon farm.

30,000 sq. mi area off the coast of southern Africa has a biomass of 13 million jellyfish, far exceeding the 3.9 million tons of fish.

30% Acidic Level Increase in oceans compared to thirty years ago, leading jellyfish number to increase as other fish/predators to decrease.

//Street Smart Project Street Smart Instructor Charmaine Martinez Course Art 237 - Graphic Design 1 Typefaces Plump + Gotham + YummyCupcakes Programs Adobe Illustrator +Adobe Indesign + Adobe Photoshop

The objective of street smart is to address the lack of healthy food options that Cal Poly Slo currently suffers from. My solution to this problem is to have food trucks come and station around campus and sell notorious/healthy juices, snacks and salads to students as healthier dinning options. To do this, there would be a street smart application for smart devices allowing students to be aware of where these trucks are, menu options, hours and specials. This would keep students always informed as to where and what they can eat at all times, minimizing any confusion or concerns.
