1. Total built-up area: 32,796 sq.m. Sell/ profit area:16,069 sq.m. Out of the total built-up area 50% can be sold since they have functions like residential, retail, offices and hotel. The profit from this can be used for remaining 50% of built-up area for functions like cultural, recreational, sports, health, etc.

Since there is a lot of competition in the market , one can choose sponsors' and thereby be able to satisfy the expectation of the employees.

30% of the Residential is for Low income group. This allows for all types of people to afford to reside in the plot. The design allows possibilities of spaces with a variety of budgets.eg. One can buy a flat without a good view, or at a lower level.

The design program is multi-functional. This allows the user to enjoy all the facilities. Also there are spaces which lead to increase in interaction among the occupants, there by improving the quality of living.

The employees are not dealing with any toxic materials since they are eco-friendly. Also care will be taken for safety measures during construction. The materials used for construction are ecofriendly and recyclable with low VOC content.

All the organic waste generated will be converted into methane and fertilizers using biomass. The system of living machines will be used to convert the grey water into pure water. Wind energy, Solar energy, Geothermal energy will be used as a renewable source of energy. Food production will also be an important part of the project.

Use of renewable sources as a metabolic system of the building design increases the cost initially but over few years it reduces the consumptions of energy thereby saving a large amount of electricity bills for the consumers. The food production helps in the meeting the food requirements of the tenants and the additional can be sold out. All the excess amount of energy, water ,etc can be added to the grid.

Exercises II
Diagram showing Interrelations The proposition is to understand the mutations of self sufficient systems and functions in the building in order to develop a new conceptual framework and vocabulary for these networks that can no longer be described within traditional categories of architecture. There are 7 networks which can be interconnected in order to achieve self-sufficiency.
1
2
3
Currently all the production like energy, water, etc. takes place outside the site. The proposition is to place there nodes into the site and create a network. These nodes interact with each other and also with the functions on the site.
4
The functions are placed depending upon the networks as well as the surrounding site conditions.
The Nodes are then moved and placed according to the functions as well as the climate.
The final diagram is derived based on the relationship between the Nodes and the function. It there by creates a loop of sustainability . Various aspects like recycling waste, grey water, food production , energy production are included into this loop to create a metabolic system for the building.

LEEDSLEEDS- Site Study This integrated way of thinking is much closer to natures way of integrating a variety of processes to create symbioses and sustainability.
Storage of materials: Since there are a lot of empty site in the surrounding block the excavated material can be stored onto those sites and then re-used eg, fertile soil can be used for vegetation.
Baked Earth: All the excavated earth can either be re used for vegetation and some of it can be used to produced baked earth clay balls. This can be used in the construction of the concrete slabs.
Connectivity: Studying the connectivity of the site with respect to the surrounding. The site was studied on basis of functions, transportation, climate so as to respond in the best possible way. The site lies in the 22@ region of Barcelona. This is one of the most upcoming area in Barcelona
Electric Cars: MIT has developed stackable electrical cars. These work similar to the bicing facility in Barcelona. The idea of making maximum use of public transportation can be encouraged.
LEEDSLEEDS- Site Study Self-sufficiency refers to the state of not requiring any outside aid, support, or interaction, for survival; it is therefore a type of personal or collective autonomy.
Microclimate: Vegetation as well as water fountains are the best ways to reduce the heat island effect. These help to create a micro climate for the site.
Go green: The footprint of the building is small so that maximum ground can be used for vegetation.
Paver Blocks: Porous concrete pavers can be used for water to percolate into the ground. Also there are some pavers with vegetation. These pavers have very good aesthetics.
Exercises V
Water flow analysis
Rain water harvesting on the roof top.
Living Machine for purification of waste water. This can then be used for flushing as well as farming.
Catchment Area for pure water as well as grey water. Collection Area for all the balance water and for further purification of water for drinking
Exercises VI
Waste – Biomass The amount of waste per capita is exploding. We need to feed the waste back into the loop Farming Waste : all the waste from the food production can be collected and sent to the biomass plant. World is running out of food!! We need a second green revolution. Domestic Waste(Organic): All the organic waste from the house are collected in these nodes and then sent to the biomass plant
Biomass Plant: The organic waste generated can be treated and the sludge can be used as fertilizers for farming.
