PERSONAL PROFILE EDUCATION
I am an architect and researcher, currently based in Cyprus. Between 2009 and 2014 I received a Bachelor of Science in Architecture from the University of Cyprus (UCY) along with the Postgraduate Diploma of Architect, Engineer achieving an excellent performance in both. In 2015 I received a Masters in Urban Design from the University College of London while my thesis “Trojan Horse: Water Pipe and Refugee Properties in Cyprus” received a distinction and was exhibited at the B-Pro Show - for post-professional Masters programmes - in London. PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
In 2013 I was employed by a highly regarded architectural firm, Draftworks Architects, Nicosia, Cyprus. As a member of the design team, I have worked on the firm’s submissions in two architectural competitions, one of which was shortlisted. After earning my Diploma of Architect, Engineer in 2015, I have been selected by AP Marine Environmental Consultancy Ltd, an NGO that provides services to governmental organizations, to undertake the design and construction of two models using laser-cut machines and the investigation of techniques and materials to achieve the realistic representation of two underwater reefs in Cyprus. Research and construction of the models was a forth months process. The models were constructed and exhibited in local town halls. Since February 2016, I was hired by Pefkios Georgiades Architects / RIBA. The main projects I have been been working on include the design of the promenade at Protaras and two seaside hotel renovations. My job as a junior architect includes the submission of drawings to my line manager in several scales (from urban to construction details), visits to building sites and participation in client meetings. Furthermore, over the previous year I have been involved in several small scale projects, such as the 3D visualization of two residential properties yet to be build; the interior spatial design of a local folk art museum; and the visualization and interior design of a local store. APPROACH
Through my academic and professional experience I became interested in the city as a place of human coexistence and the understanding of urban design in multiple scales; from the geopolitical, to systems of transnational or local jurisdictions, from the scale of architecture to that of the human body. My research interests include the exploration of property issues in conflictual and post-conflictual territories through legal and spatial protocols that affect the domestic habits, the culture and the city. I am constantly investigating ideas in relation to the concepts of territory, city and architecture, viewed from the perspective of non-conventional forms of ownership and living and I am always open to collaboration with other professionals within this subject area. 2

2.HOTEL RENOVATION Protaras, Cyprus.
Junior Architect 2016
Collaboration: - Pefkios Georgiades Architects/ RIBA
Contribution to the project: - Prepared drawings for building permit to the competent authority - Site visits and meeting with the clients during the construction process.
The proposal: The design purpose was a fast total renovation of “Alkinoos hotel (lasted 7 months) so that to upgrade all the services (electricity, water, mechanical supplies) and improve the quality of the interior and exterior spaces. Moreover, a new level was added taking advantage of the intensives given to touristic developments by the government. The pools were organized in levels following the topography of the area and achieving unobstructed view of the Fig Tree Bay. The main room configuration concept is that of the unification and separation of sanitary areas , bedroom and living room by the use of sliding doors following the users needs.

3.PROMENADE DESIGN Third Phase, Paralimni, Cyprus. 2016
Junior Architect
Collaboration: - Pefkios Georgiades Architects/ RIBA
Contribution to the project: - Participated at client meetings (Paralimni municipality) - Construction drawings - detailed design
The proposal: The project is the third phase of the wider urban configuration of the coastal front, at the municipality of Paralimni. The aim is to connect the seaside activities with the urban practices and to create an easy access for all to the beach front. It boosts the touristic activities along the coast and stresses important points that were not visible or accessible before. Thus, the design includes a pedestrian path with green spaces , sitting areas -covered or not- stairs and ramps, toilets, cantilevered structures at selected important areas, as well as other services like electricity for indirect lighting, drinking water and rainwater management. Furthermore, the project aims to improve the ecology of the area in the long term by promoting a more organized use of the coastline. Bridge structures and transplantation are used to preserve and enhance environmentally sensitive areas such as protected species of plants and rocks.

4.PASTRY SHOP INTERIOR DESIGN AND 3D VISUALISATION Akaki, Cyprus. Personal Project 2017 The thesis explores the relationship between high biodiversity, protected landscapes and human practices. Such landscapes could not be seen as exceptional places, since they are pieces of a whole; they affect and they are affected. From this view, high biodiversity landscapes function as dynamic fields that bring together natural and cultural actions. Such a contact, contains conflicts and the architectural manipulation, should constitute the intermediate filter of such conflicting commingling, and should review and redefine their boundaries, both spatially and temporally. This very finding, constitutes the main substance of both the research and design course of the study. Under this context, Cape Greco headland, protected area “Natura 2000” and National Forest Park, which is related to the regions of Protaras and Ayia Napa, is examined. Within the planning process, I recognized different kinds of microenvironments in the landscape, which act as attractors for the various user groups and ecosystems. My proposal recommends the compaction of movements for access to the different microenvironments in one “package” -of both movement and use- that stitches them. This strategy prevents the existing unregulated movement and use, and enables various kinds of operations and filters, which respond each time to the relation between use and ecosystem with which that “package” adjoins.

Collaboration: -EP Archiects
Concept The proccess of archaeological excavation, the discovery of archaeological finds and types of materials that have defined the cultural and technological aspects of Cypriot history inspired this proposal’s design. In addition to this, the integration of the surrounding urban fabric led to a design of a living stratification of solid and void layers and the juxtaposition of materials with historical importance. The notion of the Palimsest of archaelogical finds and historic periods in Cypriot landscape manifest through the concept of layering of museological, educational and leisure activities. The building’s form narrates the above concept within its layered carved cavities and urban “pockets” of public space where the archaeological exhibits are discovered by the visitors. Urban strategies The urban strategy aims to integrate the circulation of pedestrians and cyclist into a continuous landscape organized in three sections, with traces that can extend beyond the boundaries of the plot towards the river, the park and other pedestrian routes. A public square connects the new with the existing museum and city centre. A second public green plaza extents towards the public garden. A third public green amphitheatrical square accommodates cultural and leisure activities towards the river generating a protected in-between environment.

8. TROJAN HORSE Water pipe and refugee properties in Cyprus
Thesis Project 2014 - 2015
This project assumes a present state where an economic cooperation will happen in Cyprus (exchanging water with oil) and a Fourth Territory will emerge as a result. Within this reality the water pipeline will be used by Turkey as a tool of ‘contemporary colonisation’, a ‘Trojan Horse’ with motivations beyond mere economics. For us, the only way to secure refugee land from being privatised and achieve an equanimous land assessment is to create a new institution that will take control of properties before the exchange begins. In this scenario, the Fourth Territory is a test ground for unification where refugees from both sites obtain property rights via bi-communal settlements. We propose a domestic unit that operates beyond the notion of private and public, challenging the main colonial consequences in terms of ownership defined by a project of suburbanisation. The project takes as its operative device the infrastructure to craft new territorial conditions where a decolonised system of living will be introduced. An idea of proximity manifests through a series of intersections in different scales. From the infrastructural line cutting across the demarcation line to the way that a cross organises the courtyards system. ‘Trojan Horse’ is a radical reassessment of the relationship between landownership and infrastructure. We utilize this dialogue to imagine an alternative way to make conflict productive.

9. FILTERING CONTACTS OF SORTS Interventions at Cape Greco headland, Cyprus.
Thesis Project 2013 - 2014
The thesis explores the relationship between high biodiversity, protected landscapes and human practices.

10. HARBOR TERMINAL Larnaca, Cyprus. The main objective of the project has been to activate Larnaca’s marina as a passenger station, tourist mobility hub and public space. Thus, the main design intention was the changing of the existing industrial character of the harbor and the creation of conditions so that it becomes an extension of the urban fabric. The harbor terminal, was designed, according to the motions that it receives from various directions; and spatial planning has emerged through three-dimensional lines, which had been determined by the points of landing and embarkation. The ground floor has remained free for public use, while the functions of the terminal are located on the first floor and basement. In the early stages, when we got in touch with the area of study, the border of the port has been considered, not only as a linear device, but also as a spatial buffer zone which absorbs both tensions from the urban fabric, as well as uses related to the port. In the design of the model, the urban fabric was presented in its vertical direction in the form of “channels” which penetrate into the buffer zone. The main idea of the urban planning was related to the aforesaid recognition, and accordingly the extension of those “channels” into the harbor. Therefore, the marina has been organized with “channels” of various uses -residential, commercial, athletic activities’ and with an outdoor market, so that it gets activated from the city side. Conversely, a water channel enters the marina, implying activation from the seaside.

11. RESEARCH & TECHNOLOGY CENTER Salt lakes district, Cyprus.
2012
In this project, in addition to the management of the programming function of the building, the parameters which needed to be taken into consideration, were related to the building’s location, an environmentally sensitive site, but also to the experience that the building would be offering to both employees and ordinary visitors. Therefore, the architectural concept is associated with the movement of the visitor in a straight line, gradually lifted from the ground, where he views important points of the landscape. In this way, the form of the building as a ramp, aims to make the visitor’s experience more dramatic and to culminate that, by the building’s ending over the water of the salt lake in a cantilevered manner. The concept of a ramp building, is not related only to the visitor’s experience, but also to the need for having minimum footprint on the ground. Also, the choice of steel as a construction material, has as a result, the reduction of the building’s mass. More specifically, the building is organized with the free motion space in between, while the functional areas such as research laboratories are placed in prefabricated units at the right and left side of the building. These are covered externally with sunshades which promote sun protection.

12. RECEPTION & INFORMATION BUILDING University Campus, Cyprus
2011
As design tool for this proposal, we used the concept of “dematerialisation. This concept has been the basis for the programming aspect of the building and has been attributed by using vertical shading elements that differentiate gradually the relationship of indoor and outdoor space, as well as the amount of light entering the building. This happens respectively with the openings in the roof. Thus, both in front view, and in plan, the building seems to lose its matter gradually. The uses, were placed in the building depending on their need for lighting.

13. ‘ALLEMANSRÄTTEN’ Europan 12: Kalmar, Sweeden.
Part I Architectural Assistant 2013
Forest covers approximately 66% of Sweden, while quite interestingly half of the forest area is privately owned. What intrigued us during our research was the existence of an ancient customary law, which now has the value of a proper law and it is constitutionally established. This law is called ‘Allemansrätten’ which means ‘everyman’s right’, and it describes the right of everyone to roam freely within forests, and nature in general, which is a right granted by the Constitution of Sweden and was highlighted by the Government in 1994 as the second mostimportant right after the right to ownership. Forest in the wider province of Småland covers around 50% of the land. In Kalmar the land covered by the forest is considerably less, due to human intervention. As a result of the growing size of urban areas, the natural landscape is being increasingly fragmented. In our project we understand the forest fragments equally important as the intervention itself. We provide five tactics that work as the tools towards re-establishing the continuity of the forestry landscape. These are: 1. The ‘Shades of Green’ tactic, 2. The ‘Petri Dishes’ tactic, 3. The ‘Forest Routes Network’ tactic, 4. The ‘Involving the Students’ tactic, and 5. The ‘Connected Micro-environments’ tactic.
