01 Aim high and think five star. Never hit the beach without factoring up? That’s great news you re doing something that may well save your life. But looking for products with a high SPF (dermatologists now recommend you go no lower than 15) is only part of the story. The SPF bit in sprays and creams will help protect against the sun s burning UVB rays, but you also need to guard against the sun’s UVA rays - the ones which age skin and cause cell damage. To ensure a product offers protection from both types, look for the words ‘broad spectrum’ and a star rating for UVA protection. As with album reviews and hotel rooms, a five star rating is the one to look out for.
Think positively about sun protection. Sun protection is important for everyone, but especially important if you’re a poz guy. A study published in the journal of the National Cancer Institute revealed that two of the most common skin cancers - basal cell and squamous cell ones - are more common in HIV+ men - even those on meds. The risk is especially high if you’re fair skinned, so be extra vigilant about protecting your skin against sun damage and check any moles regularly, too. I’ve also tried TriAcnèal which is a night cream that works agains unclear skin for adults, it works against redness and unclear skin, it exfoliates and works almost as a mask. It’s used during the night so I put it on just before bed after washing my face. Now I don’t really have unclear skin but during winter my skin is always dry and dull and more unclear than during summer. I’ve been using this like 3 times per week and I think I see results, the skin looks more even and clear. So I will continue using but every night now.
