Feeding cows

Project Site: Old City, Ahmedabad Objective: The studio was based on the concept of cartography as mapping tool and identifying problems. The selected six site for the studio was spread all over the old city of Ahmedabad.

Stuck among vehicles

Through this studio we designed a public plaza, which has multiple uses and stakeholders. The area faces problems of space congestion and overlapping of multiple activities. The main focus of the project is to resolve the issue of space congestion by allocating demarked area for the various users.

Observing colonial building

The design process includes: -Identifying and observing the problems through a particular lens through cartography -Showing the actual site conditions and problem through axonometric view. -Understanding the overlapping of networks and deriving design inferences. -Designing the area from the derived inferences.

Having tea This is the chowk, attracting tourist due to the presence of Ahmadabad first pol and the old stock exchange building. Also as it is surrounded by monuments such as Jama Masjid, Rani ni Hajiro and Raja no Hajiro, it attracts more tourists. During the early morning the chowk acts like a grazing ground for cows, people come here to feed the cows. From morning till late evening this chowk acts as a parking lot and surrounded by jewellary shops . At night the chowk transforms into a food market. This chowk is also included in the heritage walk route. This cartography shows different tourists at during different times of a day and their experiences. The cartography is done at three different timings and overlapped on top of each other to depict the changing activities of the chowk. LEGENDS: MORNING Shopkeeper Vendor Tourist Hawker

Visualizing proposed intervention in Mahurat ni pol chowk Amphitheater with a backdrop of old stock exchange building to revive the culture and to highlight the historical building which was earlier hard to see because of small temporary structures in front of the building

Reconstructed temple with lawn, trees and seating. Friendly for the older to spend evening time. earlier there was no space to sit and spend time.

Play area for children and seating for the people for night food market.

Small seating pockets for shopkeepers and for buyers. Earlier people use to sit on two wheelers to talk or to rest.

Lift and staircase to connect underground parking, which steps directly into plaza.

Fixed table tops for morning vendors which become an insentive for the night food vendors as pre-cooking table which will lead them to stand at the allocated space

FIRST DRAFT OF GAME

02 AMRUT VAHANA PLAY METHODOLOGIES Site Condition Project Site: New Faisal Nagar, Ahmedabad

Objective: The studio was based on the concept of game as a tool to interact and engage with the community and derive inference . The selected site for the studio was near the dump yard of Ahmedabad. Through this studio we designed a modular device for the community, which is multi functional and mobile. The community faces problems such as poor water quality, garbage accumilation, lack of electricity, poor health facilities and congested work spaces. Our focus is to cater to the community by providing them clean and drinking water through the device.

Water logged

The design process includes:

Testing of game with batch mates and faculties.

-Identifying and observing the problems of a particular network on site. -Conveying network complexity through game board. -Understanding the overlap of networks and making a game board. -Designing the device from the derived inferences.

Water supply system

Board after game.

FINAL GAME BOARD

Game with group of few families.

Using the rope and binder clips, we hang the solution boards One team is given a question card, while the other team suggests answers by putting the question card colour coded stickers

Game with CEPT students and faculties.

AIM To understand how what solution seems fit according the target audience and also encourage discussions on more permutaion and combination of solutions.

Explaning the design idea to the community.

INITIAL DESIGN IDEAS

FINAL DESIGN This was inspired by Aqua duct bike. The process is to purify water through carbon Filter and peristaltic Pump. A person to pedal cycle and earn money.

Then the bike changed into a device having sitting space and with same mechanism. But in this people themselves have to pedal water to purify.

Then the process of purifying water remain same, just sitting arrangement changed. Converted into a mobile device, inspired by the bear party bike.

Some more iteration in the seats and the seating space. Given a roof. Converted sitting into U shape so there would be more interaction and added a adjustable table.

Seats were given back rest and under seat converted into storage space.

AMRUT VAHANA : The project aims at constructing a device which can filter water while creating a gathering space for the people of New Faizal Nagar. This community has developed out of scarcity, with very poor institutional facilities and resources. The water provided by the borewell owners is not potable due to contamination by the surrounding conditions. All these conditions result into deteriorated health conditions. Hence, water purifying becomes an inavoidable necessity for the people. The Amrut Vahana is a device which filters water through the use of peristaltic pump. It also provides a gathering space which can be used by the residents of New Faizalnagar as per their convenience. Hence, the Amrut Vahana can prove to be a promising deivce which can be used in spaces of scarcity. STAKEHOLDERS : The stakeholders taken into consideration are the residents, the shopkeepers who will be using the device as a vehicle to transport the goods within the site and the driver who will be appointed by the community (as there are many unemployed people in site).

The device can be constructed using the waste materials on site

03 MASS HOUSING UTOPIA To HETEROTOPIA

Project Site: Maan Darwaza, Surat Objective: The studio was based on the concept of mass housing across time and space. The evolution of hosing settlements through linking and stacking. The selected site for the studio was occupied by the migrants of other state, who are labours and workers of the textile mills. Through this studio I designed a housing project for the community, which is spacious and have open spaces. The community faces problems such as narrow lanes, garbage accumilation, lack of electricity, less open area and no work spaces inside their houses. My focus was to provide community a better lifestlye and space for all chores and other earning works.

04 URBAN INSERTS Project Site: Anand, Gujarat Objective: The studio is based on the pattern of streets across the site extent. Understanding and mapping different layers of activities. The site has a small bus network which connects the city from both ends. having no specific infrastructure for the stops.

1

Due to insufficient parking plots, 4 wheelers are parked on footpath and on road edges as well which leads to shrinking in road size.

2

Lari vendors are placed on footpath and road edges. which attract people with vehicles which starts creating chaos.

3

Lari vendors are placed on footpath and road edges. loading and unloading are done at road which hinders movement.

4

Due to roaming of animals on road and sitting on road edge hinders the movement (pedestrian and vehicular).

5

Due to no specific auto stand, autos are parked at road edge and at the junction which hinders buses to take turn, which hinders whole traffic. Due to no specific auto stand, autos are parked at road edge which shrinks the road size and hinders in movement.
