Double Exposure For this project I used adobe photoshop to add the effects and combine the images. I layered 2 images on top of each other and then used the blending mode lighten to contain the image the landscape scene within the shape of the girl and desired parts of the background. I controlled the opacity of each image and then used the brush tool to hide parts of the layer mask (the flower scene) and reveal the girl’s face and hands. Then I created a curves layer adjustment and gently adjusted the shadows, midtones, and highlights. My goal for the image was to portray a surreal iamge where a girl had connected with her natural landscape.

Duotone For this project the assignment was to create an image using only two colors. After finding the image I wanted to modify, I used the image effects to make the picture black and white. After that I added different gradient layers which I adjusted in the “gradient settings. I changed the opacity of the layers to highlight the different tones in the image. Then I added text to embody the intended mood of the image and what I type of picture I was aiming to create.

Event Flyer This project tasked us with the job of creating an event flyer. I used an image of a woman from a TV show to adverstise the premiere of the newest season. I used a clipping mask of the subject and placed the image over a gradient. Then I used the brush tool to darken areas around the subject so there was less of a contrast around the edges. I designed the layout and controlled the text’s spacing, kerning, and typeface.

Typography Quote Portraits I designed a potrait with a famous quote by an artist and allowed for the text to be transparent so that the image below is visable. First I removed the subject from background using the Quick Selection and Select and Mask tools. Then I enlarged the portrait to take up most of the composition. Finally I added type and right align it so it creates a half text/half face effect.

Text effects The assignment was to create text effects that would convey a certain style. For this example I chose to create a retro effect. I modified the background image in photoshop and then added a red stroke as the border. Then I modified the text by adding a gradient and adjusting the font and kerning. I added a drop shadow as well as stroke to the text. This gives it more of a “blocky and 3D effect.

Digital portrait painting For this project I used an image of a woman’s face as the background layed on photoshop. Then I continued to add layers to the image to make it appear as a digital oil painting. I used different brush tools, fan brushes, watercolor brushes, and the smudge tool to create a painting effect. I adjusted some of the colors to bring out more highlights and darken other areas.

Book Cover I designed a book cover for John Green’s novel the Fault in Our Stars. I wanted the cover to reflect both the romance and beauty of the relationship between the two main characters. I designed the front and back covers using photoshop. I overlayed many images and then modified the opacity and levels to create the tone I was aiming for. Then I imported the cover designs as a smart object into the 3D template on photoshop.

Album Cover For this project I repeated a similar strategy that I used to create the book cover. The front cover, back cover, and label design were created in photoshop. I modified the images and added text as well as text effects. Then I converted the artwork to smart objects and dropped them into the 3D template. For this image I was trying to convey the tone of Taylor Swift’s most recent album Reputation. The songs are mostly about her and different relationships in her life. I used images of her and the different tones of red to show her emotional side and introspective aspect of her album.

Logo Design I designed a logo for an electric car company that would convert classic cars to electric motors. I was drawing off the ideas of making transportation more enviornmentally friendly but including a retro look because it involves restoring the classics. I ceated the image on Illustrator by using vectors to create a lightening bolt shape. I then added text and modified the effects to create the retro adn drop shadow appearance.
