Context Setting: Grey & Bruce • Northern tip of Southern Ontario • Mainly rural: Grey & Bruce Counties, 17 Municipalities; largest centre Owen Sound, Ont. • Population – 161,977 • Many seasonal visitors, cottagers (winter and summer) • Area – 8603.6 km2 (approx. size of P.E.I.)
How it all started… • September 2013- Social Determinants of Health Campaign,“Let’s Start a Conversation about Health…and not talk about health care at all” video. • June 2016-Bruce Grey Poverty Task Force meeting on Access to Oral Health. PTF moves to create Health Equity Action Group. • June 2016-First Collaborative "Poverty Tool" Workshop for Primary Care held in Owen Sound.
How it all started… • June 2016-Grey Bruce Integrated Health Coalition met on Health Equity; September meeting focused on Health Equity and Indigenous Communities. • December 2016- Second “Poverty Tool” Workshop for Primary Care in Walkerton. Over 95 attended. Attendees indicated an interest in ongoing health equity work. • December 2016- Health Equity Steering Committee met with the leadership of the Grey Bruce Health Unit. • February 2017-Grey & Bruce Health Equity Forum held in Owen Sound.
