ACCREDITED COURSES
The AOP has long had an affinity with photography students and the continuing development of the relationship in supporting students of image-making is testimony to that.
We have an active Education Working Group which includes staff from the Accredited Courses, AOP Board and our own staff, to discuss the challenges facing students and ways to better support them with the resources we have and better prepare those that wish to enter industry.
We are well aware of the need to demonstrate employability within the sector and our aim is to support those courses that successfully apply to be a part of our professional community and give them and their students an edge, when it comes to professionalism.
See full Criteria for Membership on inside back cover.

Anne-Marie Ellison
As a BA (Hons) photography graduate, my work ranges from still life to portraiture to conceptual projects which symbolise a desire to represent a psychological space and the ways in which we engage with it.
‘Come Undone’ - in literature and art, strong independent women often give away their power for the love of a man. It is as if their emotions have weakened their selfassurance and rendered them worthless. We have become so accustomed to reports of female brutality that it takes the death of Fawziyah Javed and Sarah Everard to make us question how empowered women truly are. Pre-Raphaelite art expressed admiration for the uncomplicated realism of nature; my series aims to represent the inner strength gained by women as a result of mistreatment, allowing an audience to connect with their integrity. The reflection in the mirror is that of hope, synthesizing the psychological qualities of flowers with both the woman and the objects surrounding her. By referencing historical artists in my work, it is possible to contextualise their significance today and use them as a weapon of empowerment.

Nick Gardner
Nick Gardner started his career in radio before moving into broadcast & corporate TV. He is fascinated by the symbiotic relation between humans and dogs, one that has endured for thousands of years. Nick relishes the challenge of trying to tell this story with a single image and a dash of humor.
DOGS@JOBS is inspired by Nick’s childhood on the Norfolk Broads where his family ran a small Post Office and gift shop. Living above the premises meant that everyone was involved with the business. This included the family’s black Labrador who would spend her time under the Post Office counter from the moment the shop opened in the morning until closing time at 5pm.
The project Dogs@Jobs features dogs who currently provide the same support and companionship to their owners throughout the working day.
After seven years, five of them with Morley College Nick will be graduating with a BA (Hons) in Photography this summer.

Barbara Gorniak
I have just completed an HNC in Photography at Morley College London. My artistic goal is to create colorful portraits of food and sweets. I like to play with textures and shapes and make sure the colors work together. My goal is to draw the viewer's eye through the fun, colorful forms of the photographed object.
Title: Guilty Pleasures
The concept behind my project is to depict happy moments in which we celebrate life. The love of sweets is shared by basically every culture. Regardless of age, location or demographic group, sweets are one of the things that bring people together. Science even proved that there is also a psychological trigger after consuming sweets that most of us begin to develop in childhood. From birth, most people learn to associate sweets with happy moments and memories with friends and family, such as Christmas, Easter, etc. Of course, sweets should be consumed in moderation, just like everything in life.

Tracy Hayward
A HNC graduate of Morely College London, Tracy enjoys photographing in and around her local area in Hampshire. Her growing clientele has allowed her to set up her own studio at home to focus on visual storytelling. Tracy enjoys studying the work of Irving Penn, Burt Hardy and Brigitte Lacombe.
‘Forgotten now found’
Tracy has revisited a forgotten art movement called Arte Povera who rejected the commercial practise of only photographing pristine new objects. Tracy has gathered found objects and presented them in a fresh way with an added drop of intrigue.
Tracy has recently moved house and in the process of clearing out old cupboards was shocked to find so many items she was prepared to discard all of which were in perfect order but had become "unloved" objects. Instead of discarding the objects she decided to bring them back to life in this series. What appears to be fresh, new objects on closer inspection are things unused, unliked, redundant and duplicated.

Angela Howell
The Look of Style
Growing up around fashion as a child, Angela’s mum always designed and created her own clothes. Angela feels that the camera allows her the opportunity to put together two of the things that she loves: photography and fashion. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and this also applies to fashion. The fashion world has taken its time to represent the ‘other’. The streets have been our playground to show up and show our style. Fashion weeks allow attendees from around the world to display their style.
Angela has just completed an HNC in Photography at Morley College London. Angela is driven by her passion to capture the essence of fashion moments, both at home and abroad. Her commitment goes beyond creating beautiful images; she strives for authenticity aiming to reflect the true relationship between her subjects and their style. Each subject, she believes, has a unique story to tell, and she is dedicated to capturing this essence in her images, showcasing their individual style through their clothing and accessories.

Tilly Hunter
What Lies Within?
This is a project that explores the state of Britain’s rivers. Through lack of planning and investment, regulatory failure and indifference, the systems we rely on to keep our waterways clean have broken down. Pollution and chemical toxicity are at record levels, with sewage overflow a prime culprit. The effect is environmentally damaging and socially depressing.
Tilly’s images show the dichotomy between seemingly sublime countryside river landscapes and the close-up reality, but also engender optimism that we can help nature to overcome adversity and restore the balance of life. I hope to use photography to raise awareness and inspire future action.

My project “Here and There” celebrates the rich tapestry of multicultural identities within the United Kingdom. Drawing inspiration from my own multicultural background and deep affection for the UK, I consciously pivot towards a narrative of positivity amidst the prevalent discourse of cultural dissonance. Each diptych in this series serves as a poignant self-dialogue, inviting viewers to witness the intricate interplay between one’s heritage and their present environment. “Here and There” is not merely a visual documentation but a testament to the resilience of the human spirit, navigating the complexities of identity with grace and resilience. It is a celebration of diversity, a testament to the beauty of cultural fusion, and a reminder of the unyielding pursuit of happiness amidst life’s ever-changing landscape.

John Pettitt
John is fascinated by the heritage of photography, its processes and techniques. He chooses to restrict his work to lens-based image-making with only minimal interventions to the image recorded by the camera to more effectively explore how traditional photographic practices and stylistic grammar can provide effective responses to contemporary subjects and situations. His is an allusive, oblique approach to chosen themes.
John has just completed an HNC in Photography at Morley College London.
Alexandru Radu Popescu
Jack Eyers – Paralympic athlete
Alexandru started his life passion of photography from a young age while living in Romania. He has completed his BA (Hons) in photography studying at Morley College London.
The Beyond Limits project is an evolution of a project started four years ago called UNIC. It involves photographing human irises with a prototype lens, combined with half of the sitter's portrait. This nearly four-year-long project is Alexandru's signature work, which has been recognized in several countries where he has exhibited. This time, the images feature British Paralympic world champions who will participate in the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games, starting in about a month, where these fantastic athletes will represent Team GB in the canoeing discipline.

Sincerity of Loss
My work explores the subject of loss and of how I and those close to me dealt with overcoming it. Through this series I hope to create a new narrative on normalising sadness and instead of denying it we should honour it as hard as that may be. Each image reveals familiar details that represent underlying issues of desperation, avoidance and stigma but also shine a light on the hopefulness in each of us to battle through our struggles. Each image is a lone individual, coping in isolation, but that doesn’t need to be the case, that loss can be dealt with openly and collectively if we allow ourselves to be vulnerable.

ACCREDITED COURSES
Criteria for Membership
Our Accredited Course membership is able to provide support and industry expertise to photography courses at FE, HE and post-grad levels, as long as the course can provide evidence that its course content and delivery responds to the current demands in the professional photography sector.
Additionally, institutions must integrate substantial elements of our publication, Beyond The Lens, into the course delivery, usually as part of any Professional Practice or Professional Development (PDP) module(s).
If your institution offers additional courses related to image-making and photographic practice, we can offer a package to accredit those courses too. Please get in touch with us to discuss.
To become an AOP Accredited Course, the institution must:
Hold a fair copyright policy as applicable to their students and not seek to take any IP from them.
Demonstrate a satisfactory provision of lensbased and/or electronic imaging and wish to seek a stronger liaison and involvement with the professional photographic industry.
Pass an assessment visit of any on- or off-site facilities, including studios, digital suites, darkrooms, and the library. We would also like to talk to current students and teaching staff on the course.
By joining, you commit to a minimum term of membership of 12 months. This will be renewed automatically on its anniversary unless you give one calendar month's notice to the AOP, in writing to info@the-aop.org. Membership will continue on a rolling basis until such time as you decide to cancel.
You also commit to abide by the AOP Members' Charter and Code of Practice, which can be found here.
