Planningprofessionsallowyoutocontributetothegrowthanddevelopmentofyour communityandallowyoutoleaveatangiblemarkontheplacesyouliveandwork Planningallowsyoutohelpshapethewayscommunitiesgrow,change,andare developedbothatthemasterplanningandsiteplanninglevels. Yes,youcanbecertifiedifyouarecurrentlyastudentorhaverecentlygraduated! CertificationfromtheAmericanInstituteofCertifiedPlanners(AICP)isanationally recognized,verificationofaplanner’squalifications.Thiscertificationhelps tremendouslywithprofessionaldevelopment,asseveralplanningpositionsrequireor preferanAICPcertifiedplanner,especiallyformidtoseniorlevelroles.Onaverage,a certifiedplannermakes$16,000annuallymorethananon-certifiedplanner,sothere arefinancialbenefitstogettingcertifiedaswell.

AICPcertificationrequirespassingtheAICPexamandaworkexperienceassessment. Thenumberofyearsofworkexperienceneededvariesbasedonyoureducationalqualifications.
