Denver Woman’s Press Club: APRIL BRUNCH PROGRAM The Many Voices of Denver: Ethnic Community Newspapers Saturday, April 18 10:00 a.m., DWPC Clubhouse As writers, we know about “voice.” Each of us has our own, and we write to share it with others. As Denver has grown in population, we find here are larger ethnic communities that need vehicles to communicate the concerns that apply to their groups. Publications speak to and for these communities. Please join us for brunch on April 18 to hear from a panel of experts who will share with us the purpose and functions of ethnic newspapers in the Denver area. Chris Leppek, an assistant editor for the Intermountain Jewish News,
will speak about a publication that has been an independent voice covering the Jewish community in the Rocky Mountain region since 1913. La Voz is Denver’s oldest and largest bilingual publication that functions as a forum for the Latino community. Publisher Pauline Rivera will represent this paper on the panel. Wendy Chao, a native of Taipei, Taiwan, founded the Colorado Chinese News in 1994 and has added the Asian Pacific Business Journal since then. Wendy will speak to us about her publications and how they meet the needs of the Asian community in
Denver. The panel discussion will be moderated by our own Beverly Chico. This is a fabulous opportunity for DWPC members and guests to broaden their knowledge of the growing and changing Denver community.
