After his win in the 2015 Grand National Many Cloud became a peoples favorite and his popularity grew when in 2015 and 2017 he was named the horse of the year by a landslide public vote. His 2017 season was looking like another successful one till he took on the mighty Thistlecrack at Cheltenham. Both horses went to war over the last few fences and although Many Clouds would get the better of the unbeaten youngster, he passed a few minutes after the line. Many Clouds lost his life doing what he loved and we wanted to pay tribute to him, by producing this short film using some of the footage we’ve taken with and about him over the years. Free Reins is the emotional story of a 63 year-old maverick, Patty McGill, and her “tribe’ – a diverse group of kids, families and volunteers who participate in an unconventional brand of equine assisted therapy at Hinchinbrook Farm.

That little seed grew and grew and led me to the Horses of Us.One moment changed everything for me. It happened when I was five. I was already obsessed with horses and desperately wanted a pony. I vividly remember going to pick strawberries at a local farm and coming home with a fuzzy brown pony named Chocolate. This pony became my world for all of my childhood. She was my confidant, partner, and performer. My parents loved telling the Chocolate story. My favorite part of the story was when I told them I wanted a white pony but after I rode Chocolate I was happy to have a brown one instead. Even better was how the farmer added the saddle and bridle to sweeten the deal. Who can pass up a Shetland pony with a saddle and bridle for $50? That was the beginning of my lifelong journey with horses.

I had idolized Nita my childhood from having seen her watercolors in Reader's Digest Condensed Books, drooling over her paintings that went with stories like "At Home in the Woods". I was very happy, as an adult, to be in her actual presence. Predominantly, however, I have been an animal artist, and I learned to do that largely on my own. I was encouraged in this at a young age by my discussions about animal anatomy with T.C. Westall, once an instructor at Herron Art Institute. Fortunately for me, he was also my uncle. To this day I still have yet to see paintings that surpass those he created both as oil portraits and watercolor landscapes. He was an incredible painter who went largely unrecognized due to not being able to pursue it fully. He had colleagues though who recognized what he could do, people like Joshua Meador. Part of my childhood art worship was a juicy impressionism oil landscape my uncle had of Meador's. It gave birth to my passion for oil paint. Karl Albert and my uncle are both gone, yet I still ask them for their artistic assistance. I was born a painter. I can take little credit for it, it was a gift given to me by my Maker. I am grateful that I was exposed to art and could feel that awakening very early in my life.

Most of my childhood time I spent at the farm in the neighborhood. There I recognized my deep love and learned the respect for the animal world. Horses, however, already attracted me with their grace and meek power in their children's shoes. Also the camera became early a popular companion. At similar times, at a young age, still with borrowed reflex cameras from friends. In 2009, I began to focus more intensively on animal photography on the autodidactic path. As an educated computer scientist and web designer, I quickly found a way to create individual works on the digital level from my photographs, which focused the focus on the "object" and gave it the impression of being special. If the horse was for me a graceful creature with a dynamic radiance, this kind of treatment allowed my personality and actual perception to be embedded in my work. Thus, more and more Equine Fine Art works were created. Since the beginning of 2012 I have been concentrating almost exclusively on the horse. This includes the horse individually in a controlled free-ride, but also in portrait with his rider / owner. I sometimes spend hours on sprawling paddocks to keep the coexistence of horses in groups as natural snapshots. Special composings as well as artworks complete the presentation possibilities.

Stroh’s career as a painter and sculptor brings together a variety of aspects of her life - as a young art student at Cranbrook-Kingswood, as a girl growing up on a horse farm in Metamora, and as an avid, nationally ranked horsewoman. With this foundation, Stroh returned to her love of painting after following other professional, personal and artistic pursuits. A graduate from the University of Colorado with a Bachelor’s degree in Fine Art and a Master’s degree in Education, she turned her focus from using art as an educational tool to painting full time in 2010. Stroh’s work can be found in a myriad of public and private art collections both in the United States and abroad. A class member of L. Brooks Patterson’s 2013 Elite 40 under 40, a 2013 MI Great Artist finalist, and the 2014 MI Great Artist winner, Stroh currently works out of her studio in Birmingham, Michigan.

During his short-paintingcareer (less than 5 years) he has painted more than eight hundred gallery-worthy paintings. Regardless of its size, paintings are usually completed in less than 120 minutes. As a result, Michael is reluctant to take credit for his work, believing his savant autism is actually the artist within him. Until his mid-fifties, Michael was unaware of his autism. Melis Yalvac is Turkish but speaks Italian better than I, who are in Milan, Melis Yalvac is small and thin as a twig and his camera follows her everywhere. These are the things I know. Then there are the things I see. I see the silence of his photos, as if they were always taken at the time of the suspension before the roar. Prior to action.
