In Topsail Beach:

The insider’s scoop on what you need to know at the beach... We’re one of the pet-friendliest islands in North Carolina. In Surf City, dogs are allowed on the beach, but must be on a least at all times. In the Town of Topsail Beach, in season, dogs must be on a leash, however, from Oct. 1 – May 14, dogs are permitted off leash as long as they are under voice command. Remember the turtles! Lights out! If you are beachfront, please turn off the rear porch and deck lights. Turtles are drawn to light and if the porch light is on facing the beach, turtles, especially hatchlings, become disoriented and die. They need to be guided by the moonlight. Secondly, if you dig a hole in the sand on the beach, please fill it in. In addition to human injury, the sea turtles can become trapped and injured. 8

You are welcomed to set up tents and chairs, but leaving these items on the beach overnight is prohibited. Glass is prohibited on the beach. There is no overnight camping on the beach. Do not use charcoal grills on the beach. Stay off the dunes. Walking on the dunes will result in a $500 fine. Do not park on sidewalks. If you think you have a great parking spot on the side of the road, remember, both sets of tires must be off the pavement. Remember to respect our property owners.

Reservations and information are available from the Topsail Beach Police Department (910-328-4851) or visit online at www.topsailbeach. org/Departments/ Police/BeachWheelchair Traditional golf carts are not permitted on the roadways in Topsail Beach. Low Speed Vehicles equipped with headlamps, stop lamps, turn signals, tail lamps, reflex reflectors, parking brakes, rearview mirrors, windshields, windshield wipers, speedometer, seat belts, and a vehicle identification number are permitted.

5 Things to do when it rains on your Topsail Island Vacation You’ve spent months planning a relaxing beach vacation. But you didn’t plan on this one day of rain! Don’t despair. Here are five suggestions of things to do when it rains on your Topsail Island vacation.

Head on over to the Missiles and More Museum in the afternoon for an adventure to learn about pirates, rockets and a display that may well be the world’s largest seashell collection. Located at 720 Channel Blvd., admission is free. Watch for free programs too!

Adults will enjoy the many activities suggested for children, but you may just want to explore.

Go directly to Topsail Island Trading Company and purchase Topsail-Opoly, a new take on an old favorite. This game board features Topsail! Pick up some fudge while you’re at the Trading Company!

Dine at one of our locally owned restaurants. Visit with the locals. We love it!

You might have to stand in line with an umbrella, but the wait is worth a tour of the Karen Beasley Sea Turtle Rescue and Rehabilitation Center. See where the turtles are nurtured and readied for release. Admission fees. Game time and ice cream at Patio Playground where you may find all your favorite arcade games! It’s Topsail’s Best Ice Cream Shop! Topsail Skating Rink is located above the Topsail Beach Post Office. This throwback rink is typically open 7-10 p.m. Open some rainy days. 2020

Visit Poplar Grove Plantation and learn about peanut farming, Civil War, and Gullah Geechee Heritage. NC Birding Trail: The NC Birding Trail emphasizes the importance and conservation of Birds that are native to NC. HIKING Abbey Nature Preserve Trail: Dedicated to the memory of Margaret Abbey Foy Moore, the Foy family has placed 67 acres of undeveloped land into the Coastal Land Trust. Enjoy a short walk up the sandy road or take a longer walk that crosses the dam through the woods along the outflow stream. Take pleasure in the wooden walkway built across the 10-acre pond that connects with walking trails on both sides. Mountains to Sea Trail: The MST traverses Pender County, through the Holly Shelter Game Lands, winding through neighborhoods in Surf City and along the beach into Onslow County’s North Topsail Beach. The trail begins at Clingman’s Dome and ends at Jockey’s Ridge on the Outer Banks. For information and interactive maps go to ncmst.org.

East Coast Greenway Trail: From Maine to Florida, this 3,000 mile trail travels down Topsail Island to Surf City, along the Intracoastal and Sloop Point Loop Road to Country Club and

Osgood Canal Greenway and Urban Trail: A 2.2 mile loop of asphalt and concrete walking trails in and around the central portion of the town limits of Burgaw. The trail follows the Osgood Canal through town and offers walks through wooded areas along the canal, through urban areas in the downtown, and offers the convenience of both passive parks and playground parks along the way. The trail is a great benefit to the health and well-being of those who take advantage of all it has to offer. There are several streets and areas throughout town that access the trail. Corner of E. Burgaw, Pender County’s seat of government, is The Town Hollywood Loves. Burgaw has been the backdrop for numerous movies and television productions. Look at the Pender County Courthouse.
