Whether it takes “one small step” or “one giant leap” to get to your couch, do it “For All Mankind.” The hit Apple TV+ television series “For All Mankind” is back for a fourth season Friday, Nov. 10, after taking a year-and-a-half-long hiatus. With one Primetime Emmy win under its belt already, the scifi drama’s newest season is comprised of another 10 episodes, thus bringing the total episode count for the series to a whopping 40. The series first made (gravitational?) waves when it premiered on its home streamer in 2019. Marketed as an alternate version of 1969, in which “the Soviet Union beats the United States to the moon” (per IMDb), the series reimagines history and speculates how this one change in events could have sparked a whole new world order. Largely focused on the political and scientific ramifications of the then-U.S.S.R. making history on the moon, “For All Mankind” Season 1 leaned into the idea of a space race that “continues on for decades with still grander challenges and goals.” With the premiere of Season 2 in February 2021, the astronauts faced an all-new set of challenges that took place more than a decade after the moon landing. Having confronted everything from lunar ice and trespassers to gender debates in Season 1, the next two seasons promised higher stakes and bigger problems. And on this promise it surely delivered.

From natural disasters such as solar storms and generally harsh living conditions to personal qualms ranging from reckless and selfish behavior to ego-based contests and grand political motivations, there has never been a dull moment on the screen — or in the lives of “For All Mankind’s” fictionalized astronauts and their families. One of these astronauts is Edward Baldwin, played by “The Killing’s” Joel Kinnaman. The head of the Baldwin family, which has seen some serious struggles throughout the show’s three seasons to date, Ed is one of NASA’s best astronauts and is rumored to have been based upon real-life Apollo 10 commander Thomas P. Stafford. While Ed has been supported by several family members over the years, including Karen (Shantel VanSanten, “Shooter”), Kelly (Cynthy Wu, “Holidate,” 2020) and Shane (played by brothers Teddy and Tait Blum, “Big Little Lies” and “Shooter,” respectively), the only confirmed Baldwin returning (other than Ed) is Kelly. Joining Ed in space and on Earth are returning characters Ellen Wilson (Jodi Balfour, “Quarry”), Margo Madison (Wrenn Schmidt, “Nope,” 2022), Danielle Poole (Krys Marshall, “Supergirl”), Helios Aerospace founder Dev Ayesa (Edi Gathegi, “The Blacklist”) and Aleida Rosales (Coral Peña, “The Post,” 2017). Viewers who are already familiar with “For All Mankind” and who may be wondering what is to come in the newest season need look no further than the official trailer, as issued by Apple TV+ in mid-September. Time flies in “For All Mankind,” and in a move that echoes the near-decade jump from Season 2 into Season 3 in June 2022, the fourth season of the series picks up eight years after the Season 3 finale. “Rocketing into the new millennium in the eight years since Season 3,” reads an Apple TV+ news release from Sept. 13, “Happy Valley has rapidly expanded its footprint on Mars by turning former foes into partners. Now 2003, the focus of the space program has turned to the capture and mining of extremely valuable, mineral-rich asteroids that could change the future of both Earth and Mars.” But Apple is quick to remind viewers of the darkness lurking in space as “simmering tensions between the residents of the now-sprawling international base threaten to undo everything they are working towards.”

Season 2 of this animated family series continues. Things are moving along for Molly (Ashley Burch) after Season 1’s dramatic finale, and Scratch (Dana Snyder) is back home in Brighton after facing trial in the Ghost World for making human life too joyful. Everything seems to be back to (para)normal, until a family of ghost hunters – the Chens – move in next door. No matter how dreamy their son is, Molly knows she must keep her biggest secret — her best friend, Scratch — safe.
“Dashing Through the Snow” (Nov. 17)
Eddie Garrick (Chris “Ludacris” Bridges) is a good-hearted man who has turned his back on Christmas due to a traumatic childhood experience. At the request of his wife Allison (Teyonah Parris), from whom he is separated, Eddie takes his 9-year-old daughter Charlotte (Madison Skye Validum) to work with him on Christmas Eve, where they meet a mysterious man in a red suit named Nick (Lil Rel Howery). Eddie thinks the man is delusional, but he and his daughter are taken on a magical adventure that just might restore his faith in Christmas.

Kennedy –who is recalled in the new History documentary series :”Kennedy,” starting Saturday, Nov. 18 – selected Cliff Robertson to play him in this earnest retelling of the then-president’s time as a Navy lieutenant. “The Missiles of October” (1974, TV): William Devane made a major leap toward stardom with his JFK portrayal in this Cuban Missile Crisis drama. “Kennedy” (1983, TV): Almost a decade after playing RFK in “The Missiles of October,” Martin Sheen credibly portrayed JFK in this miniseries. “Robert Kennedy and His Times” (1985, TV): Brad Davis did a fine job as RFK in a miniseries about the politician’s years as attorney general and senator. “JFK” (1991): Arguably the best-known movie to have John F. Kennedy as its subject,
director Oliver Stone’s drama also sparked a firestorm with its take on the official account of the assassination. “JFK: Reckless Youth” (1993, TV): A decade before “Grey’s Anatomy,” Patrick Dempsey took the challenge of portraying the younger years of the icon-to-be. “Thirteen Days” (2000): The Cuban Missile Crisis also was the focus of this drama, with Bruce Greenwood as JFK in a cast led by Kevin Costner as presidential aide Kenneth O’Donnell. “Bobby” (2006): That’s “Bobby” as in Robert F. Kennedy, with writer, director and co-star Emilio Estevez delving into the effects of the assassination on others present at the Los Angeles hotel where it happened. “The Kennedys” (2011, TV): Despite content concerns that saw this miniseries relocate from History to Reelz, the performances
by Emmy winner Barry Pepper (as RFK) and nominee Greg Kinnear (as JFK) make it worthwhile. “Parkland” (2013): The “Bobby”-like drama about events at the Dallas hospital where the November 1963 shooting victims were taken features many familiar faces, from Billy Bob Thornton and Marcia Gay Harden to Paul Giamatti and Colin Hanks (whose father Tom was one of the film’s producers). “11.22.63” (2016, TV): What if the fateful day in question had gone differently? This drama based on a Stephen King book poses the query and speculates about the answer. “Jackie” (2016): An Oscar nominee for the performance, Natalie Portman is compelling in her portrayal of Jacqueline Kennedy in the immediate aftermath of the JFK assassination.
