It’s the worst of the worst versus the devious and dastardly in this all-new series. “House of Villains” premieres Thursday, Oct. 12, on E!, USA Network and Syfy.

“If the phrases “Bye Pumpkin!” or “Pop off!” live rent-free in your head, this show is for you,” promises Entertainment Weekly. Hosted by Joel McHale (“Community”), this competition series aims to find “America’s Ultimate Supervillain” — reality television supervillain, that is.

According to the network, “‘House of Villains [...] will pit contestants against one another each week in a challenge that tests their physical, mental and emotional strength.” The contestants in question? Ten of the most memorable, quotable and meme-able reality TV “villains,” hailing from kingdoms (series) far and wide.

The series description continues: “The winner of the challenge is safe from elimination, but at the end of each week, one villain will be voted out of the house and sent home.”

What makes a reality show villain, you may ask? “Is it an indelible catchphrase? Is it the moral turpitude to backstab relative strangers for the promise of cash and/or fame? Is it

just the far-too-uncomfortable association with a former president? Well, E! will give fans of unscripted television’s best baddies an excuse to ponder these and other questions with ‘House of Villains’,” Entertainment Weekly promises.

For this inaugural season, contestants include: “HBIC” Tiffany “New York” Pollard, who first appeared on “Flavor of Love” in 2006; Jax Taylor, from “Vanderpump Rules’”; “Survivor’s” so-called “granny-killer,” Season 7’s Jonny Fairplay; the “Bad Girls Club’s” Tanisha Thomas; Corinne Olympios, from the 21st season of “The Bachelor”; “The Challenge’s” Johnny “Bananas” Devenanzio; former “90 Day Fiance” star Anfisa Arkhipchenko; Shake Chatterjee, the “villain” from “Love is Blind” Season 2; “Love and Hip Hop Miami’s” Bobby Lytes and more.

Beyond time and space: ‘Loki’ returns with uncontrollable powers

We’ve all done the time warp and explored the multiverse, but it’s high time to sort out the timeline. A brand-new season of “Loki” premieres Friday, Oct. 6, on Disney+. Tom Hiddleston (“The Essex Serpent”) returns as the God of Mischief, everyone’s favorite troublemaker, Loki, who has developed a mysterious problem this season.

Owen Wilson (“Haunted Mansion,” 2023) is back as Mobius M. Mobius, the Time Variance Authority agent tasked with helping Loki right his wrongs across the multiverse. The first season of “Loki” saw the Norse God meet his match in an alternate version of himself. Sophia Di Martino (“The Electrical Life of Louis Wain,” 2021) is Sylvie, a variant of Loki who interrupts the Sacred Timeline. After coming together to set things right across space and time, Loki returned to what he thought would be the TVA headquarters he left before his mission, but something still wasn’t right.

In the official trailer for the upcoming season, Mobius brings Loki to a repair shop of sorts, manned by TVA repair guy OB, portrayed by Ke Huy Quan (“American Born Chinese”). Before the pair have time to explain what’s brought them there, Loki suddenly, uncontrollably disappears in a timeslip, leaving Mobius looking to OB for an answer. “It’s impossible to timeslip in the TVA,” is all he can say, though they just watched it happen.

“Loki” executive producer Kevin Wright told Entertainment Weekly in September that “[OB’s] job is basically every piece

of tech, every computer, every thing that is running at the TVA. ... He either designed it or he fixes it and keeps it running.” Having recently picked up an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor in 2022’s “Everything Everywhere All At Once,” Quan is well suited to help repair another multiverse.

While Quan’s character is the latest to join Loki’s crew as he chases chaos across the multiverse, several cast members return for the new season, including Gugu Mbatha-Raw (“Surface”) as Ravonna Renslayer, an ambitious judge in the TVA who oversees Loki’s case. Literally backing up Loki at one point in the season’s trailer alongside Mobius, Sylvie and OB is Wunmi Mosaku (“We Own This City”) as Hunter B-15. Eugene Cordero (“Star Trek: Lower Decks”) returns as Hunter K-5E, former TVA receptionist.

The upcoming seasons also star Neil Ellice (“Halo 4: Forward Unto Dawn”) as Hunter D-90, Jonathan Majors (“Creed III,” 2023) as He Who Remains and Tara Strong (“Teen Titans Go!”) as the voice of Miss Minutes. Rafael Casal (“Blindspotting”), Kate Dickie (“Annika”) and Liz Carr (“Silent Witness”) all join the cast this season in as-yet-unnamed roles.

Odd couple Mobius and Loki unsurprisingly have different approaches to their world-saving mission spanning space and time. While the former admits in the “Loki” teaser trailer that he prefers his “slow, deliberate, cerebral approach” honed by years in the bureaucracy of the TVA, while the Norse god is “a man of action, which is fine.” Unconvincing, given Loki is the source of the destruction that they are trying to stave off.

While Disney has remained characteristically tight-lipped about the new season of “Loki” ahead of its premiere, MbathaRaw promised in a December 2022 interview with Entertainment Tonight that fans “are gonna be in for a real treat because the show is bolder and more surreal.” She added that the upcoming season “goes to some bigger, bolder places than Season 1, which is really exciting.” Wright promised something similar in his September EW interview, saying, “We made a weird show [in Season 1], and people responded to how weird it was ... so, we wanted to push it further.”

“The Tell-Tale Heart” (1953): A real-rarity, this animated, Oscar-nominated version of Poe’s short story about a haunted killer is narrated by James Mason, runs less than 10 minutes … and was given an “X” rating by British film censors.

“Phantom of the Rue Morgue” (1954): The success of “House of Wax” the previous year made Warner Bros. eager to release another thriller in 3D, and Poe’s “The Murders in the Rue Morgue” became the source of this melodrama starring Karl Malden as an experiment-immersed professor.

“House of Usher” (1960): “B”-movie legend Roger Corman began a series of Poe-inspired films for American International Pictures by casting genre staple Vincent Price as a member of the allegedly cursed Usher family who tries to ward off a would-be in-law (Mark Damon). A new version of “The Fall of the House of Usher” starts streaming Thursday, Oct. 12, on Netflix.

“The Pit and the Pendulum” (1961): Maybe the best of the Corman-made Poe adaptations, this chiller boasts one of Price’s most memorable performances as the deeply

troubled owner of a castle where his brother-inlaw (John Kerr) gets too inquisitive for his own good.

“The Premature Burial” (1962): An Englishman (Ray Milland) with a continual fear of being buried alive eventually suffers that fate ... only to be saved, setting him on a path of vengeance.

“The Raven” (1963): Corman teamed Price with two other horror-movie legends — Boris Karloff and Peter Lorre — in this saga of battling sorcerers, one of whom (Lorre) has been transformed into the title bird. Notable in the supporting cast: Jack Nicholson as Lorre’s son.

“The Haunted Palace” (1963): Price worked with Corman again in this saga of the title palace, with the title supplied by Poe, though the source story actually was written by H.P. Lovecraft.

“The Tomb of Ligeia” (1964): Corman and Price were at it again in this tale of a man seemingly haunted by his first wife while on his second marriage. Robert Towne (“Chinatown”) co-wrote the screenplay.

“The Masque of the Red Death”

(1964): While a plague threatens his village,

a prince (a Corman-directed Price, yet again) maintains sanctuary in his castle ... but the threat finds him anyway.

“The Oblong Box” (1969): Price stars again, along with fellow horror great Christopher Lee, in the story of a man who has his brother (Alister Williamson) put into a death trance and confined to a coffin (or “oblong box”).

“Murders in the Rue Morgue” (1971): The Poe tale got a big revision here, in a screenplay about an acting troupe performing the story – and becoming murder targets themselves.

“Two Evil Eyes” (1990): Genre veterans Dario Argento and George A. Romero each directed one of the two Poe-inspired stories combined in this feature, featuring Adrienne Barbeau and Harvey Keitel.

“The Raven” (2012): John Cusack plays Poe himself in a story that really links to the title tale in name only, as it follows the author through the last days of his life while he chases a serial killer who has kidnapped Poe’s true love (Alice Eve) and is using elements of the writer’s works to taunt him.

The countdown begins when “Raid the Cage” premieres Friday, Oct. 13, on CBS.

Based on the format of the Israeli game show (of the same name), “Raid the Cage” originally ran on Israel’s Channel 2 (Reshet) for four seasons after making its debut in late 2013.

The initial series was co-created by Shy Brameli (“India on a Rickshaw,” 2020), Tal Berman (“Mischak Machur’’) and United Studios of Israel, while this reboot of the game show will be distributed globally by Sony Pictures Television, with Jack Martin (“@midnight”) acting as both showrunner and executive producer.

In this iteration, actor/comedian Damon Wayans Jr. (“New Girl”) acts as host alongside Emmy winner Jeannie Mai Jenkins (“The Real”), who together tackle what Paramount Pictures (CBS’s parent company) calls a “fresh take on a thrilling international format” that has “thrilled viewers in over 15 countries internationally.” In a news release for the upcoming series, Paramount also shared its excitement over the pairing of Wayans and Jenkins, saying: “Together, the duo brings an infectious chemistry to the series, where the goal is to get in, get out and
