Closing chapter: Chantel and Pedro split in final season of ‘The Family Chantel’ What TLC calls the series’ “most explosive” season yet, the final chapter of “The Family Chantel” begins Monday, Nov. 6, on the network, documenting the end of the relationship between Chantel Everett and Pedro Jimeno. First introduced on TLC’s highly-popular series “90 Day Fiancé,” this couple first met (in person) and fell in love when Chantel traveled to the Dominican Republic to meet Pedro during the series’ fourth season, where the pair subsequently got (secretly) engaged. Later, Pedro moved to Atlanta, where he and Chantel married in 2016 and continued to live, despite concerns from both of their families. The newlyweds then returned to document the ups and downs of their The cast of “The Family Chantel”
intercultural marriage during “90 Day Fiancé: Happily Ever After?” and later on, during “90 Day Fiancé: Self-Quarantined.” With ample drama to share (and not just their own, but that of their opposing families) the duo soon secured their own spinoff on the network — “The Family Chantel” — a first for an individual couple from the “90 Day” franchise. During the series’ second season, its accompanying debrief show, “The Family Chantel: Pillow Talk,” began. Despite their television success, not all was well for the couple. Season 4 of “The Family Chantel” ended as Pedro announced he would be filing for divorce from Chantel after six years of marriage.

coverstory Trivial pursuit: New comedy film ‘Quiz Lady’ wins big

Fingers on buzzers! Which streamer premieres a brand-new comedy film starring Awkwafina (“Renfield,” 2023) and Sandra Oh (“Grey’s Anatomy”) on Friday, Nov. 3? The answer is Hulu, and the film in question is “Quiz Lady,” a buddy comedy about two sisters who come together to win a quiz show and save a dog. Awkwafina is Anna, the reliable, type-A sister who is called away from her work as an accountant when her mom’s senior living facility reaches out to let Anna know that they had lost her mom — but not to the afterlife. The attendant corrects herself in the trailer, telling Anna, “Sorry, that was terrible phrasing. I meant we don’t know where she is.” After making it to the facility, Anna is joined by her estranged and distraught sister Jenny, portrayed by Oh, whose purple highlights, oversized sunglasses and flamboyant personal style contrast with Anna’s head-to-toe grey wardrobe. Anna is clued in to her mother’s whereabouts when a bookie informs her that her beloved pet pug, Mr. Linguini, has been kidnapped and is being held hostage over her mother’s massive gambling debts. With the debts creeping up her back and seniors home infractions stacking up, Anna and Jenny’s mom flees to Macau, Will Ferrell in “Quiz Lady”
leaving them to sort out what she owes and be reunited with Mr. Linguini. Anna’s salary isn’t quite generous enough to settle their mother’s $80,000 tab, and Jenny’s constant search for her latest passion hasn’t resulted in financial stability. Two weeks is all they’re given to cough up the funds. The siblings are at a loss for ways to get rich quick until Jenny sees Anna participate in her favorite game show, “Can’t Stop the Quiz,” from her sofa. The show is must-watch television for Anna, who tunes in daily, usually accompanied by her canine companion, and effortlessly answers every single question correctly. Seeing Anna in her element turns on a light bulb over Jenny’s head. It’s decided, then, that the pair will travel to Los Angeles, get Anna on “Can’t Stop the Quiz,” and all their problems will be solved when she wins. Leaving the safety of her routine life in Philadelphia behind, Anna joins Jenny on a wild road trip across the United States and embraces her sister’s chaotic, adventurous way of life. Neither of them is completely certain that Anna’s trivia skills will transfer from the comfort of her couch to the pressure of the game show’s set, but this is the best chance they’ve got to scrape together enough money to bring Mr. Linguini home unharmed. Having spent years apart, estranged over their differences, Anna and Jenny have a lot of ground to cover — geographically and emotionally — on their road trip. Anna’s strictly balanced life greatly differs from her sister Jenny’s listless pursuit of purpose. They have things to learn from each other, whether it’s how to let loose and go on an adventure or focus enough to successfully achieve a goal. “The element that really attracted me was the sister dynamic,” director Jessica Yu told Deadline at the world premiere of “Quiz Lady” at the Toronto International Film Festival in September. She added, “For one thing, I just haven’t seen a lot of comedies about sisters, and the fact that at the center of this was two Asian-American sisters, made me think, ‘Oh, this will be really fun to explore.’”

This kid-friendly take on the venerable sci-fi franchise follows Kai Brightstar and his fellow Jedi younglings as they journey the cosmos with their mentor, Yoda. On their adventures, the younglings learn valuable life lessons. Season 1 returns with six new episodes; one of which sees our heroes land on the Wookiee’s home planet of Kashyyyk to celebrate Life Day.
In Season 2 of this TV continuation of the beloved “Santa Clause” film trilogy, Scott Calvin (Tim Allen) continues his search for someone to replace him as Santa. In the meantime, he drafts his family to help with his duties. Unfortunately for the Calvins, they face opposition from the recently-revived Mad Santa (Eric Stonestreet).
With all the inner turmoil and drama of the current British Royal Family, there is no better time to reminiscence over happier times. This historical drama recounts the meeting and courtship of Prince Harry (Murray Fraser) and Meghan Markle (Parisa Fitz-Henley), from their initial date to the media storm that occurred when the relationship went public.
Following the death of his mentor, Peter Parker (Tom Holland) finds that he has big shoes to fill as Spider-Man. Those feelings come to a head when Peter is drafted into fighting multiversal creatures by Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) and Quentin Beck (Jake Gyllenhaal). – passionately — the original missions of the starship Enterprise nearly six decades later. “Battlestar Galactica” (ABC, 1978-79): Again, we’ll let the original version speak for the franchise ... since even though the reboot many years later was much more complex and psychological, the initial saga of mankind’s survivors against the sinister Cylons was an effective sci-fi adventure in its own right (replete with special effects by Oscar-winning “Star Wars” veteran John Dykstra). “Babylon 5” (syndication, 1994-97; TNT, 1998): The title space station was the
figurative and literal hub for creator-producer J. Michael Straczynski’s drama in which various species tried to coexist, despite familiar disputes of social and political natures. “Stargate SG-1” (Showtime and syndication, 1997-2002; Sci-Fi Channel, and syndication, 2002-07): Spun off from the movie “Stargate,” this series continued the adventures of a military commander and an Egyptologist (played here by Richard Dean Anderson and Michael Shanks) as they used a portal to travel regularly between Earth and other planets.

When one of the other guests is found dead, Darby must use all of her skills to prove it was murder against a tide of competing interests and before the killer takes another life. “Monarch: Legacy of Monsters” (Apple TV+ — Nov. 17, Series Premiere) Following the thunderous battle between Godzilla and the Titans that leveled San Francisco, and the shocking revelation that monsters are real, this series, based on Legendary’s Monsterverse, tracks two siblings following in their father’s
footsteps to uncover their family’s connection to the secretive organization known as Monarch. Clues lead them into the world of monsters and ultimately down the rabbit hole to Army officer Lee Shaw (Kurt Russell and Wyatt Russell), taking place in the 1950s and half a century later where Monarch is threatened by what Shaw knows. “Rustin” (Nov. 17, Movie Premiere) The architect of 1963’s momentous March on Washington, Bayard Rustin (Colman Domingo) was one of the greatest activists and organizers the world has ever known. He fought for what he believed in and he did not back down. This biographical drama shines a long overdue spotlight on the extraordinary man who, alongside giants like the Reverend Martin Luther King Jr. (Aml Ameen), Adam Clayton Powell Jr. (Jeffrey Wright), and Ella Baker (Audra McDonald), dared to imagine a different world, and inspired a movement in a march toward freedom.

Battling Bonds: Brian Cox hosts new James Bond-inspired competition series
“Scott Pilgrim Takes Off” - Season 1 (Nov. 17, Series Premiere) Based on Bryan Lee O’Malley’s hit graphic novels, which were adapted into the 2010 live-action film “Scott Pilgrim vs. the World,” this new anime adaptation is bringing back Scott (Michael Cera), Ramona Flowers (Mary Elizabeth Winstead), and all seven of her evil exes. Reuniting the cast of the live-action film, the series also voice stars Aubrey Plaza, Brie Larson, Chris Evans, Anna Kendrick, Mae Whitman, Jason Schwartzman, Kieran Culkin, Alison Pill, Brandon Routh, Mark Webber, Ellen Wong, Johnny Simmons and Satya Bhabha.
Shaken, stirred and across the world: real-life competitors see if they have what it takes to be Bond in the brand-new, high-octane reality series “007: Road to a Million,” premiering Friday, Nov. 10, on Prime Video. A news release from Amazon Studios describes the premise for the series, stating: “Nine pairs of everyday people are unleashed on an epic adventure through a series of James Bond-inspired challenges to find questions hidden around the world, all for a shot at winning a life-changing £1 million prize” — £1 million being approximately US$1.2 million. Pairs must answer 10 hidden questions in total in order for a chance to win the £1 million prize, but it’s not so easy. The release goes on to explain: “To reach these questions, the pairs
face gut-wrenching Bond-inspired challenges which will push their physical strength and mental reserves to the limit. Each question is worth an increasing amount of money, if answered correctly, they bank the cash and continue to the next question. Get it wrong, their journey is over.” Behind every twist and turn sits the mastermind of it all — The Controller, this season played by Brian Cox (“Succession”), who not only dictates where the pairs must travel and what challenges they must compete in, but he also sets the questions that each duo must answer. “He watches on from the shadows following the pair’s every move, reveling as his often merciless and punishing plans unfold in front of him,” Prime teases. Brian Cox
