“Krapopolis” - Season 1 (Fox/Hulu — Sept. 24/25, Series Premiere)

Set in mythical ancient Greece, this new animated comedy for adults tells the story of a dysfunctional family of humans, gods and monsters trying to run one of the world’s first cities, while also trying their best to not kill each other in the process. The series features the voices of Hannah Waddingham, Richard Ayoade, Matt Berry, Pam Murphy and Duncan Trussell.

Hidden talent: ‘I Can See Your Voice’ reveals more secret voices

They say you can fake it ‘til you make it, and there is nowhere that idiom is more true than on “I Can See Your Voice.” The musical mystery game show returns for its third season Tuesday, Sept. 19, on Fox, as host — and series creator — Ken Jeong (“The Afterparty”) leads contestants through a series of guessing rounds centered around six talented lip-synchers.

Among the “secret voices” are true vocalists and imposter songbirds who all perform on stage to stellar pre-recorded vocals, but only the real singers perform to their own backup track. If the contestant correctly identifies a genuine performer in the final round without hearing a single note, they’re singing all the way home with the $100,000 grand prize. Whether the secret voices are retired vocalists, up-and-coming artists, hobbyist singers or just convincing fakes is only revealed once the contestant locks them in for elimination or their final selection.

This season, Fox promises “all-new theme nights,” featuring duets between celebrity musicians and contestants’ “secret voices” picks — for better or worse. The contestants don’t know just how many of the six secret voices are good or bad singers, meaning that while each elimination round reveals the true voice of one of the lip-synchers, the contestants have no clue whether they’re producing sweet music or a train wreck in the final duet performance.

The duets ratchet up the nail-biting tension for the contestants, panelists, studio audience and musicians alike. Singer-songwriter and “The Masked Singer” winner, Jewel (You Were Meant For Me,” 1995), made an appearance in the

second season of “I Can Hear Your Voice,” and after having aided the night’s contestant from the panel, she herself was nervous to hear if the secret voice really had pipes when they took the stage together. Luckily the secret voice was hiding a true talent for crooning.

Contestants on “I Can See Your Voice” have limited information on the secret voices — they are defined solely by their occupation — leaving the lip-synchs as the most credible evidence of performance prowess. Throughout the elimination rounds, contestants get help from a panel of celebs anchored by Adrienne Bailon-Houghton (“The Real”) and Cheryl Hines (“Curb Your Enthusiasm”) with a rotating chair of guest judges and featured musical artists.

In addition to the panel, contestants have the opportunity to use the “golden mic” (an impression from a celebrity offscreen about the lip-synch performances), a look into a day in the life of one of the secret voices, a testimonial from a secret voice’s biggest fan and a peek into the secret voice’s home. Not every clue is a helping hand, however, as the tools at the contestants’ disposal are filled with both genuine hints as well as red herrings.

A final interrogation round before the contestant locks in their ultimate selection allows them to ask one of the remaining two secret voices as many questions as they can in 30 seconds. They can ask anything they want, except for the secret voice to belt out a quick tune. Whether seeing a secret voice waffle over their answers or come prepared sets off alarm bells is up to the contestant to decide.

“Broadcast News” goes behind the TV scenes

It may not have the edge of other movies about the television business, but “Broadcast News” still has plenty to like. Being shown on MGM+ Hits on Friday, Sept. 22, writer-director James L. Brooks’ 1987 comedy-drama comes from a world he already knew, having co-created the TV newsroom of “The Mary Tyler Moore Show.” However, he fortified his effort by landing an adviser in CBS News veteran Susan Zirinsky, a veteran CBS News producer who’s now the chief of that entire division.

She’s also the inspiration for one of the story’s chief characters ... Jane Craig, a driven producer in a network bureau in Washington, D.C. The role made Holly Hunter a star, and perfect opposite her is William Hurt is cast as charismatic Tom Grunick, a newly hired reporter whose admission of not fully understanding the job repulses Jane, though she also can’t deny her attraction to him. Albert Brooks completes the tale’s romantic triangle as Aaron Altman, a correspondent who’s more than capable at his job, though he lacks star quality. This is a film that remains enjoyable to watch time and again.

A: In a sense, it was all in the family to do so, since ABC and Disney+ are under the same corporate banner. However, there were some other reasons that giving the show (which is up for three Primetime Emmy Awards) a broadcast-network run was deemed desirable. For one thing, it helped ABC fill two Saturday nights of programming while the SAG-AFTRA actors’ strike had many new productions on hold. (ABC often books non-sports Saturday nights with repeats, so it can be argued that more benefit might have been gotten from putting “Ms. Marvel” on a different night during the “regular” television season.) Also, the show is a prelude to the forthcoming theatrical feature “The Marvels,” in which Iman Vellani will reprise the role of Kamala Khan/Ms. Marvel …so running the series for a broadcast-TV audience also served as a massive trailer for the movie.

Country music jamboree: ACM Honors return to historic Ryman Auditorium

The 16th annual Academy of Country Music Honors awards show airs Monday, Sept. 18, on Fox.

Celebrating outstanding achievements in country music, this once-yearly event has “become synonymous with recognizing excellence in country music across various categories, from songwriting and performance to philanthropy,” describes Grazia Magazine. Taped Wednesday, Aug. 23, at the historic Ryman Auditorium in Nashville, Tenn., the 2023 ceremony is hosted by four-time Academy of Country Music Award recipient Carly Pearce (“29: Written in Stone,” 2021), who returns to the gig for her third year in a row. Pearce also performs throughout the night.

Directed by Academy Award-winner Roger Ross Williams (“The 1619 Project”) and Larissa Bills (“On Pointe”), the captivating new documentary series, “The Super Models,” asks, “How do you define the word ‘supermodel,’” letting the best in the business answer once and for all when it premieres Wednesday, Sept. 20, on Apple TV+.

From One Story Up and Imagine Documentaries, “The Super Models” tells the story of four iconic women through four parts, welcoming Naomi Campbell (“Zoolander 2,” 2016), Cindy Crawford (“Fair Game,” 1995), Linda Evangelista (“Sex and the City”) and Christy Turlington (“No Woman, No Cry,” 2010) — often considered the world’s original supermodels — to speak for themselves in unprecedented interviews, inviting viewers behind the catwalk as this series shines a spotlight on the lives, friendship and industry-shifting careers of these world-renowned superstars.

Apple TV describes: “‘The Super Models’ travels back to the 1980s, when four women from different corners of the world united in New York. Already forces in their own right, the gravitas they achieved by coming together transcended the industry itself. Their prestige was so extraordinary that it enabled the four to supersede the brands they showcased, making the names Naomi, Cindy, Linda and Christy as prominent as the designers who styled them.

“Today, the four supermodels remain on the front lines of culture through activism, philanthropy and business prowess. During a recent interview with British Vogue, Campbell shared her excitement for the upcoming series. “It’s about our life and times together: our friendship, careers, our womanhood, our motherhood,” she explained. British Vogue went on to share more. “There’s no word yet on who else has weighed in on their seismic impact on the industry, but we expect that countless designers – from established names who collaborated with them during those formative decades to rising stars who were strongly influenced by their unapologetic glamor and joie de vivre – will make appearances.”

The ladies — who last appeared on the cover of Vogue together in January 1990 — now grace the magazine’s front once again, proving their journey is far from over as they pose on this year’s cover of Vogue’s infamously coveted September issue.
