Abbotsford: The Abbotsford Police Department’s Bike Squad members recently submitted a sample of heroin for lab analysis after some seasoned intravenous drug users advised them of a potentially fatal grade being sold in the city. The results of the tests confirmed

the presence of Fentanyl in the sample. Fentanyl is extremely concentrated and toxic. Even trace amounts can result in respiratory failure, overdose and death. One user told APD Bike squad officers that they cut their usual dosage in half and still nearly overdosed. The Abbotsford Police Department reminds you that it is never safe to inject illicit drugs. There is evidence to suggest that a current toxic-grade supply is being sold in Abbotsford which considerably amplifies the risk. Users should never take drugs when they are alone and anyone feeling unwell or observing a user in medical distress should call 911 immediately.

Launched in January, Express Entry is a new way of managing applications for Canada’s key economic immigration programs. Candidates create an online profile and express their interest in coming to Canada permanently. Candidates who meet the minimum criteria are accepted into the pool and ranked according to various factors, including language proficiency, education and work experience. Each is a leading indicator of one’s likelihood of integrating fully and quickly into Canadian society and making an optimal contribution to the economy.

Brain or heart? Where you place your 'sense of self' says a lot about you Washington: As per a new study, people tend to locate their “sense of self” in the brain or the heart. Experts at Rice University and Columbia University say that whether people locate their sense of self in the brain or the heart can have a major influence on people’s decision-making. Overall, the study found people tend to locate the self in the brain. Researcher Hajo Adam said that they view their research as a first step toward reviving the debate about which part of our body contains the seat of the self - a debate that dates back to the ancient Greek philosophers. Adam added that the findings demonstrate not only that the preference for the brain versus the heart as the location of the self systematically depends on a person’s self-construal, meaning the perceptions that individuals have about their thoughts, feelings and

actions in relation to others, but also that the location of the self has important implications for people’s opinions on contentious medical issues as well as prosocial contributions. Otilia Obodaru said that these results suggest that where people locate

Govt. announce $13 million to keep painkillers from hitting street TREVOR ROBB, EDMONTON -- Described as "silent killers," prescription drug abuse has become all too prevalent in Canada, the federal government says. On Tuesday, Health Minister Rona Ambrose announced $13 million in funding over the next five years for 1,000 annual pharmacy inspections across Canada to help combat the diversion of legal, yet highly addictive, pain prescription drugs to illegal street markets. "These inspections are going to ensure that controlled substances are properly secured and stored, that record keeping is accurate and up to date, and that any losses (or) thefts of prescription drugs from pharmacies are reported in a timely fashion," said Ambrose. The federal health minister, who was at a symposium in Edmonton on prescription drug abuse, confirmed reports that Canada has the secondhighest rate of prescription opioid consumption, next to the United States. The most common used opioids include morphine, oxycodone and fentanyl, the reports say. "One of the complicating factors is that the very medications that are meant to help are causing grave harm when used improperly," said Dr. Gregory Taylor, chief public health officer of the Public Health Agency of Canada, who also attended the symposium.

the self might be a notable characteristic that shapes people’s psychological processes and decision-making, adding that consequently, there may be great value in better understanding the antecedents and consequences of being a “brain person” or a “heart person.” The study’s findings also suggest that leadership speeches, entrepreneurial pitches or marketing materials that invoke the heart or the brain could be differentially persuasive, depending on the recipient's perceived location of the self, the author said. For example, the results suggest that advertising messages targeted at people with independent self-construals compared with messages targeted at people with interdependent selfconstruals might be more effective if they invoke the brain rather than the heart.

"It's the improper and recreational use of prescription drugs, as well as the dangers associated with overprescribing, that are raising such serious concerns." Taylor said First Nations are grappling with increasing cases of overdose and abuse of pharmaceutical drugs. First Nations representatives, police, doctors, pharmacists and addictions specialists were among those attending Tuesday's meeting. When asked why the government does not classify these drugs as illegal, Ambrose said it's not that easy. "They do have a therapeutic purpose. There are people who need this pain medication for very legitimate reasons," she said. "The issue is misuse, inappropriate prescribing, and we have to recognize there are young people who are seeing this stuff just as a reason to get high - so awareness is important."

Each number in the solution therefore occurs only once. in each of three "directions". Or you can say there is only one rule. Movie Review: 'Piku' - When it's all about E'Motions', Flawless film with Stellar performances!

Cast: Amitabh Bachchan, Deepika Padukone, Irrfan Khan, Jishu Sengupta, Moushumi Chatterjee Director: Shoojit Sircar

Rating: ***1/2 A very unconventional, innovative film, depicting a father-daughter relation. Shoojit Sircar has done a marvelous job and has been able to capture the real essence of life in reel. Shoojit is an incredible filmmaker who is so amazing at his job, his earlier films like 'Vicky Donor' and 'Madras Cafe' had already proven his talent. But Piku itself has taken him to a whole new level. This film can be considered as one of the finest film of the year. The film is about father daughter relation, Bhaskor (Amitabh Bachchan) A 70 year old man who lives with his daughter in Delhi, suffers from constipation. He has myriad mood and he can keep get really irritating and annoying at times, like from hiding the salt in the kitchen to scaring off the housemaids. Bhaskor has his own set of rules and regulations, which he loves to follow. The film has a refreshing element and has been scripted beautifully. Nothing complicated yet so appealing, the film has a very quirky feel, which keeps you hooked throughout. The sweet and sour relationship between fatherdaughter has been knitted perfectly as never before. Piku (Deepika Padukone) on the

other hand is an architect and a co-owner of a designing company, in her late twenties, unmarried and is looking for a partner. She starts her day with a whining father about his irregular motions, takes out all her frustration on the 'Himachal taxi service' drivers who drive her to work everyday. The main agenda of the family revolves around 'motion' and they can discuss this at any point of time be it breakfast table or on a date night. However, this family is very progressive, Bhaskor is aware of Piku's physical relation (Piku who is in a casual physical relation with her partner Sayed Afroze (Jishu Sengupta)), but he doesn't want her to get married as he feel she needs to be independent and make a career. He was disappointed in her mother as she left her job for taking care of her family. He doesn't want his daughter to repeat that mistake.

Apparently, Piku is too frustrated with dealing all the paranoia of constipation, death, life, marriage, etc. and Bhaskor brings up his desire to visit to Kolkata home, but by road. Post a lot of argument and apprehensions she decides to take him there by road. Considering Piku's behavior in the past no driver agrees to take 40 hours and 1500 kms drive with them. Rana Choudhary (Irrfan Khan) the owner of Himachal taxi service, is also frustrated from his grouchy mother and sister, so he plans to step in and take Piku and her father to Kolkata. Juhi Chaturvedi has done a fabulous job in penning down the film. The lady has truly brought the soul to it. This film will definitely make you feel that this is my family! Even I had such experience in the film. Kudos. The road trip from Delhi to Kolkata showcases different facets of a father daughter relationship. How the trio deal with each other on the trip, Piku exploring Rana as a friend and a person who understands her. Baskor and Rana chemistry, what way will this journey affect these three's life? What will this journey lead to? Would Piku fall in love? Well you will have to watch the film for that! This film will surly give you an e'motion'-al hiccups!

All the three stars have done an fantabulous job! Amitabh Bachchan totally fits the bill of an aging old father who is stubborn and always nags around all the time. Deepika Padukone or should I say Piku? She entirely takes you along in the journey, she seems so real that not even once feel, she is playing a character she plays it so naturally. Irrfan Khan undoubtedly one of the most talented actors of B-Town, he is so much at ease while he is performing, that you would want to watch him again and again and again. The trio totally rocked. Not to forget the supporting cast, they added their own colors and strokes to make the picture perfect. However if we overlook at the story of the film its is very simple, it is about a constipated father and a frustrated daughter living together. But the film has much more than you think it has! The dialogues of the film are very natural at the same time very impressive, and the way the story has been connected it is a sheer bliss to watch it on screen. Kamaljeet Negi, the Director of Photography, has brought out the spirit of the film , he has captured all the mesmerizing Banaras Ghats and the refreshing morning at the Howrah Bridge he hasn't failed to miss any shot! The music in the film is like a bonus! The music sweeps you further into the story. Anupam Roy has done an outstanding job. -By Sunaina Rana, Santa Banta

SFU students, alumni tapped for Surrey’s Top 25 Under 25 awards Simon Fraser University students and alumni once again figure prominently as recipients of the Surrey Board of Trade’s annual Top 25 Under 25 awards. The awards acknowledge role models and leaders among young business and community-minded individuals under the age of 25, who are either working in Surrey or engaged in projects in or for the city. “We’re thrilled to see our students being recognized as they engage with the community here in Surrey; they are great ambassadors for SFU, as young innovators focused on key social issues, such as poverty and public safety, ” says SFU Surrey campus Executive Director Steve Dooley. Recipients with SFU ties represent a variety of fields, including business but also arts, health sciences, and interactive arts and technology. They include: • Deepa Sharma, a board director of the Simon Fraser Student Society, events coordinator for TEDxSFU, who is also involved with #WESAYYES FOR TRANSIT! • Jeremy Pearce, an SFU criminology/sociology student who created Transit Watch, a program aimed at improving transit safety in Surrey; • Rhythm Tang, a Beedie School of Business student who manages Hunger Actions, a four-week interactive workshop series that empowers lowincome families in Metro Vancouver with the knowledge to lead a healthy lifestyle on a tight budget; • Ridge Pinto, a Beedie student specializing in entrepreneurship and finance, an SFU co-op student and recipient of the Royal Bank of Canada’s Students Leading Change Scholarship, who is heading for law school in 2016; • Rizwan Qaiser, research assistant in the Beedie school, and

Apna

founding president of SFU’s Interdisciplinary Entrepreneurship Association (IdEA), which focuses on multi-disciplinary collaboration through entrepreneurship and enables students to collectively become innovators; • SFU alumni Felicite Rafael and Shantelle Medel, both involved with the Beneath One Sky society, founded by students from Holy Cross High School

after a trip to the Philippines to help villages build homes. The society a d d r e s s e s underlying issues of poverty in the local community; • Jessica Kim, a health sciences student and founder of the Surrey-based Musician Impact Network Society, which enhances the lives of vulnerable populations by providing music performance services; • Lourence Singh, an SFU Beedie student and financial ambassador for the

SOAR Philanthropic Society, also logistics manager for Soap for Hope, a new venture that up-cycles used soap and employs marginalized people in the Downtown Eastside; • Kanwalnain Grewal, an SFU Beedie student who hosts a radio show on South Asian station RED 93.1FM, and is also engaged as a student volunteer and community leader; • Sean Warwick, a student and undergraduate teaching assistant in the foundations of game design in the School for Interactive Arts and Technology, and coordinator of the AFK Game Development Symposium.

BBB Warns of More Fake Calls Claiming to Be from the Government of Canada Vancouver, B.C. – Just as the smoke settles from Income Tax email and phone scams, BBB warns of another making the rounds that uses a government agency as the disguise. The CRTC (Canadian RadioTelevision and Telecommunications Commission) says many Canadians have been receiving calls from people claiming to be from the National Do Not Call List (DNCL). “These calls appear to be trying to get people to input personal information over the phone,” says Evan Kelly, Senior Communications Advisor for Better Business Bureau serving Mainland B.C. “Just like the Canada Revenue Scams that crop up every year, we need to remind the public that the CRA does not contact people for personal information, nor does the National Do Not Call List or CRTC.” Like many phone scams these days, the NDCL scammer uses phone number ‘spoofing’ to make it appears as though the phone is coming from an NDCL

Roots

operator. The fake operator tells the individual that their number on the DNCL is about to expire and they need to re-register by inputting personal information. It must be noted that any number on the DNCL stays there permanently unless there is a request by the individual to remove it. “Scams usually involve fake businesses or fake charities,” adds Kelly. “However more and more these days we are hearing about government agencies being impersonated. It adds a new element of believability for the unsuspecting victim on the other end of the phone. It creates a greater sense of urgency which the scammer is trying to instill.” Just recently RCMP in Ontario

released a statement about fraudulent calls being made in their name in order to commit computer related crimes. The callers demand access to the individual’s computer, something the RCMP never does. BBB offers these tips: • Understand that Government agencies do not solicit for personal information • The CRTC/DNCL do not contact Canadians about the status of their phones numbers • If you receive a questionable call, politely hang up and contact the organization yourself • Do not give out personal information to anyone over the phone • Report the call to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre and BBB BC “Canadians that receive a call from a representative claiming to be from the National DNCL operator should not provide any personal information, including their telephone numbers. The CRTC encourages Canadians to make a complaint to the National DNCL or call 1866-580-DNCL (3625).

Be exceptionally sharp and smart on May 27. Save any special problem to be solved around this time. Love is looking for you around the May 3 Full Moon. Nothing will be too hard for you around the May 17 New Moon. Figure out what (Apr. 20- may 20) you want to work on and then jump in and finish it. You have energy and motivation like never before. Starting May 25, question an old idea or fashion preference and prepare to be surprised.

Take care of yourself and don't be lured into anybody else's madness as the month starts. The May 3 Full Moon is busy and exciting, but don't take anything personally. Be safe and healthy and get a lot done. At the May 17 New Moon take a beloved project out of the closet and work on what's near and dear (May 21-June 21) to your heart. You need no one's approval in fact, no one else needs to know. The Sun enters Gemini on May 21 and the rest of the month is yours. Mercury is retrograde now, so take your time with any new plans. You can have just as much fun doing your own thing as you can in a big group out in public. It can cost less, too. If friends are going to a big concert on the weekend of the May 3 Full Moon and the music isn't your favorite, it's OK to give it a pass. Surround ( June 22-July 22) yourself with all your favorite people and have a great time around the May 17 New Moon. Don't sit alone staring at the walls. Your friends won't permit it. Heal an old hurt or simply make yourself and someone else happier on May 27.

Dear SOS Dear SOS: I am a 41years-old, Punjabi woman with two small children. My husband and I bought our first house and after sometime his mother moved in with us. Eight months after we moved into our new home my husband passed away in accident. Since his death I have been the sole breadwinner in the family. It’s been three years since his death. My family wants me to remarry. They have introduced me to a very nice man who’s a divorcee. He doesn’t have any kids of his own and he has no problem with my kids. Since meeting him I too have been seriously considering about getting married again. I know my husband would not have an issue with it. I also know if it had been me who had died in the accident his family would expect him to remarry. My mother-in-law has ordered me not to

No matter how busy work or the social scene gets, nothing can compete with the pleasures of just being home. Recharge your emotional batteries at the May 3 Full Moon and be fresh and strong for whatever the world tosses your (July23-Aug 23-Aug (July 22)22) way. Be sharp at work after the May 17 New Moon and perhaps create a great opportunity. Take more responsibility and win support. If interested in a change in job or career, you might be able to make a move now. Memorial Day weekend is big but not crazy-big fun. You can feel rich and responsible at the same time.

You don't have to tell everybody everything, and saying less could make you feel better. The May 3 Full Moon is busy, but it encourages discretion. Draw closer to your trusted friends and learn some of their secrets. Tie up a million little loose ends in the week of the May 17 New Moon and make daily life (Nov22 22--Dec. Dec 21) (Nov. 21 simpler and easier than you may believe possible. Daily routine is rarely glamorous, but it will be when you do it. The weekend of May 23 is a lucky, fun time with possibly big social plans. Mercury is retrograde now, so maybe skip any deep personal discussions.

Money looks better than usual during the first week. See if you can save a bit more and plump up your financial cushion. People around you may be spending more, especially on the weekend of the May 3 Full Moon, but you don't have to follow their example. (Aug. 23 - Sept. 22) Someone else's concerns may try to run roughshod over yours in the week of the May 17 New Moon. Help if you can and be grateful the problems aren't yours. On May 29 end your workweek peacefully despite any last-minute complications.

Go out and have some serious fun in the first week of May. Meet some new people and make some new friends. You don't need to be intimate right away. The May 3 Full Moon encourages you to be more sociable. A big (Dec 22.22.- Jan. Jan. 19) 19) temptation or gamble could catch your eye (Dec around the May 17 New Moon. You aren't usually attracted to big risks, but this time you have the energy and passion to do more. Consider what it's worth to try. On the weekend of May 23 get some serious work done and then have some seriously wonderful fun!

Are you happy with your love life? The May 3 New Moon is tailored to please your heart. Pick and choose everything now - the restaurant, movie, or partner who goes with you. Find someone special or just enjoy a lot of high-quality peoplewatching. Emotions could run high on the weekend of May 30, and clear thinking may be hard to come by. Lay low and be good to yourself. remarry. She says if I remarry she will not allow me in my house. My parents have told her once I marry she will still live with us as before and that they want me to remarry so that me and my kids will have some security. But my motherin-law refuses to budge. I don’t know what to do. Helpless in Surrey Dear Helpless in Surrey: Decision to marry or not is solely your decision. If you are O.K. with it and if your children do not have an issue with it then you don’t need to worry. Your mother-in-law should be happy to have a daughter-in-law who cares enough to look after her even after her son is no longer alive. If she had any sense at all she would have given you the same status as a daughter and would do whatever she can to secure your future. You need to ask her if it was you instead of your husband would she refuse to allow him to remarry?

n the first week work hard and have it feel like fun. Even if you aren't thoroughly enjoying yourself, employers and co-workers will want to give you more opportunities. You could make a big discovery or learn an important life lesson. The May 3 Full Moon wants you to be intellectually bold. Get (Feb. 20 -Mar. 20) curious about life, the universe, and (Feb 20 Mar 20 everything after the May 17 New Moon. Let friends introduce you to cool new places and pleasures. Don't get too scattered or hyper, but have fun and indulge a lot of minor desires. People want to be agreeable and make you happy on May 30. Romance warms up and someone new or surprising could get infatuated with you.

If no then what’s the problem. If she still wants to be stubborn then tell her it’s your house she’s living in. If she has an issue with it, she can move out. If she should change her mind then treat her like you would your own mother giving her full respect. Life is too short, you know this better than anyone else. Go ahead marry if you want to. But before that spend some time getting to know that person. Let him interact with your children. And let the children get to know him. If he’s agreeable and if your kids don’t have a problem with it then go live your life. Good Luck.

Salman Khan wraps up Kashmir shooting of 'Bajrangi Bhaijaan'

Bollywood superstar Salman Khan today wound up over month-long shooting for his new film 'Bajrangi Bhaijaan' in Kashmir, with a promise to return soon to the valley which he fell in love with. The 49-year-old actor tweeted his impressions about the beauty of Kashmir and hoped that more Bollywood film makers will choose the valley for their movies. Salman was in the Valley for over a month for the shooting of the Kabir Khan film. About 30 per cent of the movie was shot in Kashmir, which once used to be the preferred choice of all film makers but was abandoned since military erupted in 1989. "Salman left Kashmir today after completing his shooting for Bajrangi Bhaijaan," line producer of the film, Khawar Jamsheed told PTI. Jamsheed said the actor left for his home in Mumbai along with actress Kareena Kapoor.

Magistrates Go to Court Over Same-Sex Weddings Raleigh, NC - Liberty Counsel will go to court this week to defend North Carolina magistrates who are being forced to officiate same-sex "weddings," despite deeply held religious beliefs. Our clients must choose to abandon their religion or face suspension, termination, fines, or prosecution. "While the federal court orders require that Defendants make marriage licenses and marriage ceremonies available to same-sex couples, they do not require that every magistrate in the state be compelled to perform such ceremonies under threat of suspension, termination or even criminal prosecution," Liberty Counsel's lawsuit points out. "Any number of accommodations can be made for magistrates who object to issuing marriage licenses for a same-sex union," said Mat Staver, Founder and Chairman of Liberty Counsel. Today Liberty Counsel is asking the state court for emergency protection for any magistrate who refuses to issue a marriage license to a same-sex couple.

"Militant homosexual activists do not want equal rights; they want superior rights, where their rights to same-sex weddings trump the constitutional rights of Christian magistrates and business owners," said Mat Staver. The North Carolina Constitution provides, "All persons have a natural and inalienable right to worship Almighty God according to the dictates of their own consciences, and no human authority shall, in any case whatever, control or interfere with the rights of conscience." "This case reveals the conflicts

erupting across the United States as intolerant activists impose their will on the majority of Americans who refuse to participate in same-sex unions," said Staver. "The same-sex marriage agenda

13

threatens religious liberty and freedom of conscience. Although it is full of rhetoric about tolerance and equal rights, the agenda is anything but tolerant," Staver added. "Christians and people of faith and values have been silenced through 'hate speech' laws. Now, magistrates, pastors, bakers, photographers, business owners, event planners, and others are being forced against their will to celebrate and assist in something against their deeply held religious beliefs." Liberty Counsel is an international nonprofit, litigation, education, and policy organization dedicated to advancing religious freedom, the sanctity of life, and the family since 1989, by providing pro bono assistance and representation on these and related topics.

3 critical car rental tips you should know

(NC) Rental cars provide the freedom to hit the road when vacationing outside our home base. Whether it's a road trip out to the cottage or a short visit out of town, navigating the ins and outs of car rental can be tricky if you're not prepared. Canadians take millions of trips abroad and without a doubt many of these travelers rent vehicles for their expeditions. In order to be prepared for the wide array of options that car rental agencies offer, it's necessary to do a little bit of research on your own.

“The key is to plan ahead so you can make an informed decision about car rental insurance plans,” says

insurance expert Mauro Convertini from Aviva Canada. “There are many choices, so taking time to examine each option is ideal.” Consider the following next time you are renting a car: • Save on insurance: Getting coverage from the rental agency can cost up to $25 a day for two drivers, but talk to your insurer or broker as your existing policy may cover you on rentals as well. Also speak to your credit card company as some providers will cover you if the rental is made on their card. • Get the best rate: The Internet makes it easy to compare rates. Keep an eye out for discounts and deals.

Prepare Your Car for a Summer Road Trip (NC) You've got all the landmarks plotted on the map, the tablet loaded with movies for the kids and a cooler of snacks, but have you thought about the most important part of any summer road trip? Making sure your car is ready for your epic journey will give you peace of mind and ensure you don't get stranded at the World's Largest Ball of Dental Floss. Check the Tires: Inspect the pressure in your tires to make sure they are fully inflated to get the best fuel economy while you're clocking all those kilometres, and be sure to look for uneven tread that could be indicative of wheel misalignment. Don't forget that spare in case of emergencies, even if it takes up valuable lawn chair space.

Check the Fluids: Just as we

of its fluids. Fill up your power steering, brake and transmission fluid, plus engine oil, antifreeze/coolant and of course, windshield washer fluid because the insects, mud and bird droppings you will encounter along the way don't make for the nicest view. Check the Temperature: If you've ever had the air conditioner stop working on a hot summer day, you know how uncomfortable it can be, never mind with a car full of people. Have it pressure checked before your trip and whenever you get into a hot car, open up the windows for a few minutes to take some pressure off the A/C. Use the windows to cool down as often as possible to improve fuel economy, unless you're going over 80km since the aerodynamic drag from the windows will use more fuel than the A/C. Check the Belts: Now that you've made sure you and your passengers will stay cool, make sure everything under the hood will too. Hot summers can wreak havoc on a vehicle's belts and hoses. Inspect them and look for any cracks, more than a slight flex when tugged and hoses that are too soft when squeezed. Check the Brakes: Checking the brake system before taking off is a vital step. Inspect the area for battery corrosion, make sure the connection is tight and test your brakes to see if they feel smooth. Check the Tunes: Audio entertainment is a quintessential part of any road trip and getting your car set up ahead of time will make it easy to enjoy during those long hours on the road. If you don't already have a SiriusXM satellite radio subscription, investigate the free trial that is offered on most new and pre-owned vehicles at www.siriusxm.ca. You won't have to worry about losing signal anywhere in North America and the commercial-free music, news, comedy, kids programming and sports means there's something for everyone in the car. But while she might nag you from time to time, she also might be the best person to call if you need a little TLC. A study published in Proceedings B by researchers from the University of Wisconsin Madison put a group of girls ages 7-12 through a stressful task and then divided them into three groups: one group had 15 minutes in person with their mothers, another group called their moms and the last group watched a film. Researchers found that levels of oxytocin—the hormone linked to emotional bonding—were increased in both the groups that had physical contact with their moms and those that just talked to Mom on the phone. The researchers also saw that the levels of the stress hormone cortisol decreased in both the groups that talked to Mom.
