Σας χαιρετώ από ακόμη μια συλλεκτική έκδοση ενόψει της 105ης αναμέτρησης της ομάδας μας στις ευρωπαϊκές διοργανώσεις. Απόψε η ομάδα μας αντιμετωπίζει μια έμπειρη ομάδα της ποδοσφαιρικής Ευρώπης.

Σ’ αυτές τις ιδιαίτερες συνθήκες τις οποίες βιώνουμε αυτή τη χρονική περίοδο, η ομάδα μας καλείται να ανταποκριθεί στις απαιτήσεις της διοργάνωσης αλλά και των ιδιαιτεροτήτων της εποχής και να καταφέρει στο τέλος της βραδιάς να πανηγυρίσει τη μεγάλη πρόκριση στα Playoffs του UEFA Europa League για έκτη φορά στην ιστορία της.

Η διαδρομή μέχρι τον 3ο γύρο δεν ήταν καθόλου εύκολη καθώς θα

έπρεπε να αποκλείσουμε τη νεανική Σαμπουρτάλο Γεωργίας αλλά και τον απαιτητικό κι επικίνδυνο ΟΦΗ στο «Γεντί Κουλέ».

Το τεχνικό επιτελείο με προεξέχοντα τον Σωφρόνη Αυγουστή αλλά και σύσσωμο το ποδοσφαιρικό τμήμα της ομάδας μας, θα δώσουν τον καλύτερο τους εαυτό έτσι ώστε η ομάδα μας να βρεθεί στην επόμενη φάση

Δυστυχώς με βάση την απόφαση της UEFA, ο αγώνας θα είναι κεκλεισμένων των θυρών και δεν θα έχουμε στο πλευρό μας τους χιλιάδες οπαδούς μας, οι οποίοι με τη φωνή τους θα βοηθούσαν την ομάδα να πετύχει τον στόχο της ο οποίος δεν είναι άλλος από την πρόκριση.

Once again, we find ourselves ahead of a European clash, the 105th one to be exact, against an experienced opponent.

During these peculiar times for the global community, our team must stay focused and overcome the challenges of the competition, in order to qualify to the Playoffs of the Europa League, for the 6th time in the club’s glorious history.

Getting to the 3rd qualifier was not an easy task, since our team had to face two tough opponents in the 1st and 2nd round of the competition. The inexperienced but promising FC Saburtalo of Georgia and Ofi FC, in one of Greece’s most notorious stadiums, “Gendi Koule”.

Sofronis Avgousti and his backroom staff, along with the squad, will do everything in their power in order to reach the next round of the competition.

Unfortunately, due to UEFA’s Covid-19 measures, our team must overcome the barrier of Lech Poznan without the help and support of our beloved fans.

Μια ακόμη δύσκολη και απαιτητική αναμέτρηση έρχεται για την ομάδα μας. Έχουμε να αντιμετωπίσουμε ένα ιστορικό σύλλογο από ένα προηγμένο πρωτάθλημα και με σαφέστατα μεγαλύτερο προϋπολογισμό.

Παρακολουθήσαμε τον αντίπαλο σε αρκετά παιχνίδια, τον γνωρίσαμε και εντοπίσαμε τις αδυναμίες του. Πρόκειται για μια ποιοτική ομάδα, που για να την κερδίσουμε θα πρέπει να κάνουμε το τέλειο παιχνίδι και να εκμεταλλευτούμε το κάθε λάθος του.

Δεν θα είναι εύκολο, ωστόσο νιώθουμε πανέτοιμοι για να ριχτούμε στη μάχη. Παρά το μέγεθος του αντιπάλου και την εμπειρία του στα Ευρωπαϊκά Κύπελλα, θα παλέψουμε μέχρι το τελευταίο λεπτό για να φέρουμε την πρόκριση στη Λεμεσό.

Ξεκάθαρα η Λεχ Πόζναν είναι το φαβορί αλλά δεν θα παραδοθούμε. Έχουμε ένα πολύ δυνατό σύνολο ποδοσφαιριστών, οι οποίοι έχουν τις ευρωπαϊκές παραστάσεις για να αντεπεξέλθουν στις απαιτήσεις του αγώνα.

Είναι πολύ σημαντική η απουσία του κόσμου λόγω της κατάστασης, ωστόσο είμαστε σίγουροι ότι θα είστε νοερά κοντά μας και με τη θετική σας ενέργεια θα μας βοηθήσετε να εκπληρώσουμε τον στόχο μας.

Yet another tough game for our team.

Our opponent is a historic club, coming from a better league with a significantly higher budget than our club.

We have already watched several games of the opponent in order to analyze them and single out any weaknesses. Lech is a team with a lot of quality and in order to win we must play the perfect game and take advantage of any mistakes.

We know it will not be easy but we feel 100% ready for the battle and despite the opponent’s magnitude and experience, we will fight until the final second of the game and do everything in our power to qualify.

Obviously, Lech Poznan is the favorite to win the game but we never shy away from a challenge. Our team is compiled by quality players who have the experience in European games and know how to get the result.

Unfortunately, not having our fans by our side is huge blow for us but we understand the situation and we know that they are supporting us from home.

Η ιστορία της Lech Poznan

Στις 19 Μαρτίου 1922 στη νότια συνοικία του Πόζναν, Debiec, μια ομάδα νεαρών ίδρυσαν ένα ποδοσφαιρικό σύλλογο με το όνομα «Lutnia Debiec». Αυτή η ημερομηνία θεωρείται επίσημα η μέρα ίδρυσης της Lech, παρόλο που το όνομα «Lech» επίσημα χρησιμοποιήθηκε για πρώτη φορά 35 χρόνια αργότερα το 1957. Επίσης, ο σύλλογος χρησιμοποιεί συχνά το ψευδώνυμο «Kolejorz» που συνήθως χρησιμοποιείται όταν κάποιος θέλει να περιγράψει άτομο το οποίο εργάζεται στον σιδηρόδρομο, επειδή για χρόνια η Lech είχε συνδεθεί με τη βιομηχανία των τρένων.

Κατά την διάρκεια της ιστορίας της, η Lech άλλαζε συχνά την έδρα που έπαιζε τους εντός έδρας αγώνες της, αλλά από το 1980 μέχρι και σήμερα, το σπίτι της ομάδας βρίσκεται στο γήπεδο που βρίσκεται στην οδό Butgarska. Πριν από το Euro 2012 της Πολωνίας και της Ουκρανίας, το στάδιο ανακαινίστηκε και σήμερα μπορεί να φιλοξενήσει έως και 42 χιλιάδες άτομα.

Η Lech κέρδισε επτά φορές το πρωταθλήματος Πολωνίας (1983, 1984, 1990, 1992, 1993, 2010, 2015) και πέντε φορές το κύπελλο (1982, 1984, 1988, 2004, 2009).

The history of Lech Poznan

On 19 march 1922 in the southern district of Poznan called Debiec group of young man registered football club under the name “Lutnia Debiec”. This date is considered as the official birthday of Lech even though the name “Lech” officialy was used for the first time 35 years later in 1957. Club is often using also a nickname “Kolejorz” which refers to a person working on rail because for years Lech was linked to train industry.

During the years Lech changed the place where club played his home matches but from 1980 until now home for the team is on the stadium located at Butgarska street. Before Euro 2012 which was played in Poland and Ukraine stadium went renovation and now can accomodate up to 42 thousand people.

As for now Lech has been seven times champion of the polish league (1983, 1984, 1990, 1992, 1993, 2010, 2015) and five times won polish cup (1982, 1984, 1988, 2004, 2009).

Σε ευρωπαϊκό επίπεδο, οι μεγαλύτερες επιτυχίες της Lech ήταν στα τέλη της δεκαετίας του 1980-90, όταν έφτασε δύο φορές στην φάση των 16 του Κυπέλλου Κυπελλούχων και Πρωταθλητριών Ευρώπης. Ιδιαίτερη ήταν η σεζόν 1988, όταν η Lech αντιμετώπισε την Μπαρτσελόνα του Γιόχαν Κρόυφ, χάνοντας στην διαδικασία των πέναλτι, μετά από δύο αγώνες οι οποίοι έληξαν ισόπαλοι 1-1.

Τα τελευταία χρόνια η καλύτερη ευρωπαϊκή πορεία της Lech ήταν στο UEFA Europa League της σεζόν 2010/11, όταν προκρίθηκε στην φάση των ομίλων όπου αντιμετώπισε την Μάντσεστερ Σίτι (νίκη και ήττα), την Γιουβέντους (δύο ισοπαλίες) και την RB Σάλτσμπουργκ (δύο νίκες), παίρνοντας έτσι την πρόκριση στη φάση των 32, όπου και αποκλείστηκε από την SC Braga.

In european field the biggest successes Lech gained at the turn of 1980 - 90’s when twice reached last 16 round in Cup Winners Cup and European Champion Clubs’ Cup. Especially remembered in Poznan is 1988 when Lech was dropped in this round after really close game with Johan’s Cruyff’s FC Barcelona which was resolved only in penalty shootout.

In last years best european performance of Lech was in 2010/11 Europa League group stage when blue-whites played against Manchester City (win and lose), Juventus (two draws) and RB Salzburg (two wins). Kolejorz was dropped only in last 32 stage in two-legged game against SC Braga.

Το Πόζναν Βρίσκεται στο δυτικό τμήμα της χώρας -στις όχθες του ποταμού Warta- και είναι η πέμπτη μεγαλύτερη πόλη στην Πολωνία με πάνω από 500.000 κατοίκους. Είναι επίσης μια από τις παλαιότερες πόλεις της Πολωνίας, όντας ένα σημαντικό πολιτικό και θρησκευτικό κέντρο όταν η χώρα ιδρύθηκε τον 10ο αιώνα. Ο καθεδρικός ναός του Πόζναν για παράδειγμα, είναι η παλαιότερη εκκλησία της χώρας και είναι επίσης ο τόπος όπου οι πρώτοι Πολωνοί ηγέτες - ο δούκας Mieszko I και ο πρώτος βασιλιάς Πολωνίας Bolestaw Chrobry, γεννήθηκαν.

Κατά τη διάρκεια των αιώνων, το Πόζναν έπαιζε πάντα μεγάλο ρόλο στην ιστορία της Πολωνίας και ειδικά κατά τη διάρκεια του Β’ Παγκοσμίου Πολέμου, όπου είχε σχεδόν καταστραφεί. Μετά το τέλος του πολέμου, η πόλη ανακαινίστηκε όμορφα, συμπεριλαμβανομένης της Παλιάς Πλατείας που μέχρι και σήμερα είναι ένα από τα πιο πολυσύχναστα μέρη της πόλης με πολλά μπαρ και εστιατόρια που βρίσκονται εκεί. Στην Πλατεία υπάρχει επίσης το παλιό δημαρχείο με ένα από τα πιο αξιοσημείωτα αξιοθέατα της πόλης, τα μηχανικά κατσίκια μάχης που βγαίνουν καθημερινά το μεσημέρι πάνω από το ρολόι στον μπροστινό τοίχο του κτιρίου. Από το μακρινό 1551 μέχρι και σήμερα, κάθε μέρα το μεσημέρι, πολλοί άνθρωποι μαζεύονται μπροστά από το δημαρχείο για να παρακολουθήσουν το θέαμα.

Το Πόζναν βρίσκεται στην πιο οικονομικά αναπτυγμένη περιοχή της Πολωνίας, πιο κοντά στο Βερολίνο παρά στη Βαρσοβία και οι κάτοικοι της πόλης είναι μορφωμένοι και φιλόξενοι.

Η πόλη είναι επίσης γνωστή για τη διοργάνωση μεγάλων διεθνών αθλητικών εκδηλώσεων. Το Πόζναν έχει μια από της τις πιο όμορφες διαδρομές για regatta στον κόσμο και φιλοξενεί έναν από τους μεγαλύτερους αγώνες δρόμου στην Ευρώπη - τον Μαραθώνιο του Πόζναν. Κατά τη διάρκεια του Euro 2012, το γήπεδο Πόζναν ήταν επίσης ένα από τα γήπεδα όπου διεξήχθησαν αγώνες.

Limassol

Limassol is the second largest city of Cyprus with a population of approximately 180,000. It is one of six districts and covers an area of 34.87 km2. Located on the southern coast, Limassol stretches around westward to the Paphos district, bordering with the district of Larnaca on the east and with Nicosia on the north. In addition to the recognized popularity as a tourism destination, Limassol is also an administrative and business centre, a port, a resort, the centre of the wine industry and home to many archeological sites.

The vivacious city centre, seems to offer a journey through time where the University with its bustling young students aiming for a brighter future is just a few streets away from the old market and ancient castle which link us to the past. Gracefully blending old with new continues, as across the seafront one can appreciate the cosmopolitan side of Limassol with its contemporary business structures and modern apartment buildings while only several kilometers away one can find charming areas with cobblestone streets, quaint buildings with overhanging terraces under which there are a profusion of small shops, restaurants and cafes.

The city of Limassol has a rich history that goes back to around the 2nd century B.C. The city is situated between the ancient cities of Amathous to the east and Kourion to the west. Limassol was inhabited since the very ancient years and tombs discovered there date back to around the

2nd century B.C., while others date back to around the 8th and 4th centuries B.C. The few ancient finds that were discovered show that a small settlement existed there which did not manage to develop and flourish.

The city, in the 10th century, was known as Nemesos and the Byzantine emperor, Constantine Porphyrogenitus, refers to this city with this name. The history of the city is mainly known for its events in 1191 A.D., which marked the end of the Byzantine Rule in Cyprus. Limassol was then surrendered to the Frankish Empire of the Lusignan Kings of the medieval Cypriot kingdom. For about three centuries (1192-1489), Limassol experienced a remarkable period of prosperity. In 1489 A.D., the Queen of Cyprus, Ekaterini Cornaro, surrendered Cyprus to the city of Venice. This lasted until the Turkish Occupation took place in 1570 A.D. Then the British conquered Cyprus in 1878, while in 1960 significant changes followed the liberation of Cyprus, which contributed to the cultural and artistic life of the city. Schools, theatres, art galleries, music halls and football clubs were formed and played a significant role in the cultural life of Limassol.

The city of Limassol was developed much after the Turkish invasion of 1974. Luxurious hotels, restaurants and numerous entertainment clubs were built and thus the city soon became a significant touristic centre.

Η Λεχ Πόζναν τίθεται αντιμέτωπη με την ομάδα μας για πρώτη φορά στην ιστορία της, ωστόσο ο Απόλλωνας στο παρελθόν κλήθηκε να αντιμετωπίσει μια άλλη ομάδα της Πολωνίας και συγκεκριμένα την «αιώνια» αντίπαλό της, Λέγκια Βαρσοβίας.

Την αγωνιστική περίοδο 2013-2014 όταν ο Απόλλωνας προκρίθηκε για πρώτη φορά στη φάση των ομίλων του UEFA Europa League, κληρώθηκε στον 10ο όμιλο και είχε ως αντίπαλο μεταξύ άλλων την Πολωνική ομάδα.

Στον αγώνα της Πολωνίας ο Απόλλωνας «έγραψε» ιστορία, καθώς ήταν η πρώτη Κυπριακή ομάδα που πετύχαινε εκτός έδρας Ευρωπαϊκή νίκη στη φάση των ομίλων. Το γκολ του Γκαστόν Σανγκόι ήταν το μοναδικό της αναμέτρησης και χάρισε αυτή την ιστορική νίκη στην ομάδα μας.

Στον άλλο αγώνα ο οποίος διεξήχθη στη Λευκωσία, η Λέγκια Βαρσοβίας επικράτησε με 0-2, πραγματοποιώντας επίσης ένα ιστορικό επίτευγμα καθώς έγινε η πρώτη Πολωνική ομάδα η οποία κέρδισε Κυπριακή σε εκτός έδρας αγώνα. Η Λεχ Πόζναν δεν έχει αντιμετωπίσει στο παρελθόν Κυπριακή ομάδα.

Καταλήγοντας, η ομάδα μας απέναντι σε Πολωνικές ομάδες μετρά μία νίκη και μία ήττα.

One win and one loss.

This will be our first match against Lech Poznan; however, we have played against their arch rivals, Legia Warsaw in the past. During the 2013-2014 season, Apollon qualified to the UEFA Europa League group stage for the first time in the club’s history and one of the other three group members was Legia.

Apollon managed to win the first game in Warsaw (0-1) with a fierce strike by Gaston Sangoy, who was the MVP of the first ever group stage away win for a Cypriot club ever!

Legia won the second game in Nicosia (0-2).

Lech Poznan has never faced a Cypriot side before.

Our team’s current record against Polish teams stands at 1 win, 1 loss.

Στον Α’ γύρο η ομάδα μας επικράτησε 5-1 της Γεωργιανής Σαμπουρτάλο στο ΓΣΠ, έχοντας τον Μπακαλί Νταμπό σε μεγάλη βραδιά καθώς πέτυχε το πρώτο του χατ τρικ (3’, 32’, 76’) με την κυανόλευκη.

Τα άλλα δύο τέρματα για την ομάδα μας πέτυχαν οι Νικολά Ντιγκινί (59’) και Γιάννης Γιαννιώτας με υπέροχο πλασέ εκτός περιοχής ολοκληρώνοντας τον θρίαμβο στο 86’.

Οι Γεωργιανοί μείωσαν με τον Γκιόργκι Γκουλιασβίλι στο 69’ ενώ ολοκλήρωσαν τον αγώνα με ποδοσφαιριστή λιγότερο.

Στον επόμενο γύρο της διοργάνωσης η ομάδα μας κληρώθηκε να αντιμετωπίσει τον ΟΦΗ Κρήτης εκτός έδρας.

Το συγκρότημα του Σωφρόνη Αυγουστή επικράτησε με 0-1 στο «Θεόδωρος Βαρδινογιάννης» με την ομάδα μας να πανηγυρίζει μια σπουδαία εκτός έδρας πρόκριση στην επόμενη φάση.

Το μοναδικό τέρμα του αγώνα σημείωσε ο Αττίλα Σάλαϊ στο 50’, ο οποίος δεν λάθεψε απέναντι από τον Βάτερμαν και με ψύχραιμο πλασέ χάρισε τη μεγάλη πρόκριση.

Apollon reached the 3rd qualifying round of the UEFA Europa League after 2 wins, 1 home and 1 away.

For the 1st round, our team beat Georgian side FC Saburtalo 5-1, with goals by Bakaliy Dabo who scored a hat-trick (3’, 32’, 76’), a goal by Nicola Diguiny (59’) and a screamer by Giannis Gianniotas at the 86th minute.

Giorgi Guliashvili scored the goal of honor for FC Saburtalo at the 69th minute, but FC Saburtalo failed to create more problems and finished the game with 10 men.

Our team had to face Ofi FC of Crete for the 2nd qualifier.

Sofronis Avgousti and his players, managed to escape with a 0-1 win In the iconic “Theodoros Vardinogiannis” stadium. The young center back, Attila Szallai, scored the only goal of the game on the 50th minute.

«Πιστεύουμε στις δυνάμεις μας»

Στο επίσημο πρόγραμμα αγώνα μίλησε ο ταλαντούχος τερματοφύλακας Δημήτρης Δημητρίου ο οποίος ήταν εκ των πρωταγωνιστών στον αγώνα της Κρήτης όπου και πραγματοποίησε το ευρωπαϊκό του ντεμπούτο.

«Πράγματι, ντεμπούταρα σε μια δύσκολη έδρα, σε μια κρίσιμη και πολύ σημαντική αναμέτρηση για τον σύλλογο και θα μου μείνει

αξέχαστη αυτή η εμπειρία. Αυτό που κρατώ και θεωρώ ότι είναι το

σημαντικότερο, ήταν η ανέπαφη εστία και η πρόκριση στην επόμενη φάση αφού αυτός ήταν και ο στόχος μας άλλωστε».

Είναι ιδιαίτεροι οι ευρωπαϊκοί αγώνες, υπάρχει και περισσότερο άγχος σε σύγκριση με τους αγώνες των εγχώριων διοργανώσεων;

«Φυσικά και είναι ξεχωριστά παιχνίδια, ωστόσο δεν είχα έξτρα άγχος. Προσπάθησα να αντιμετωπίσω τον αγώνα όπως τους υπόλοιπους. Βέβαια ένα παιχνίδι σαν αυτό έχει τις δικές του ιδιαιτερότητες

και το αντιμετωπίζει ο κάθε ποδοσφαιριστής λίγο διαφορετικά σε σχέση με τα υπόλοιπα, αφού το κάθε λάθος σε τέτοιου είδους αγώνες κοστίζουν πολύ ακριβά. Κάποιες φορές και προκρίσεις».

Η απόκρουση σου λίγο πριν το ημίχρονο ήταν η καθοριστικότερη φάση για σένα;

«Ήταν πολύ σημαντική λόγω του χρονικού σημείου που έγινε. Η επιτυχία όμως δεν ήρθε μόνο για την απόκρουση μου αλλά ήταν συλλογική προσπάθεια. Ολόκληρη η αμυντική γραμμή λειτούργησε άψογα σε όλη τη διάρκεια του αγώνα, έχοντας εξαιρετική επικοινωνία και κρατήσαμε την ψυχραιμία μας μέχρι το τέλος».

Ακόμη ένα ευρωπαϊκό παιχνίδι απόψε με αντίπαλο την Λεχ Πόζναν... «Οι αγώνες της Ευρώπης είναι πολύ απαιτητικοί αλλά ο Απόλλωνας απέδειξε ότι μπορεί να σταθεί στο ύψος των περιστάσεων. Το γνωρίζουμε εδώ και πολύ καιρό στην ομάδα και το δείχνουν οι ευρωπαϊκές μας πορείες. Ο αντίπαλος διαθέτει μια ισχυρή ομάδα ωστόσο ο στόχος μας δεν είναι άλλος από την πρόκριση. Πιστεύουμε στις δυνάμεις μας και έχω την πεποίθηση ότι διαθέτουμε την απαραίτητη ποιότητα και εμπειρία για να προκριθούμε».

We believe in our abilities

Demetris Demetriou was one of the debutants in our team’s win over Ofi FC in Crete, the young and talented goalkeeper was undoubtedly one of the key players during the clash between the Greek side.

Demetris shared a few words for our match program.

“Making my European debut in such an iconic stadium was an amazing experience. Achieving our goal and qualifying to the next round is of course the most important thing, but keeping a clean sheet was also a bonus for me.”

European games are always special, these games tend to be more stressful, do you agree?

“Of course, European games are special, however, I did not feel any additional pressure other than the usual hunger to win. I always try to take on games without overstressing, I try to do my job and help the team win. Obviously, games like this might be

considered more important than championship games because mistakes cannot be corrected in upcoming games.”

You made a decisive save just before half time, was that the highlight of your performance?

“Making a save during that game period is always important but our success was due to the team’s collective work and not because of one save. The defensive line played an amazing game and our communication and calmness helped us win.”

Thoughts on tonight’s clash against Lech Poznan?

“European games are always demanding but Apollon is a force to be reckoned with. The opponent is a great team but our goal remains the same, we must qualify to the next round. We believe in our abilities and we have the confidence and the quality to achieve our goal.”

Ο Απόλλωνας Λεμεσού αγωνίζεται για ακόμη μια χρονιά στις ευρωπαϊκές διοργανώσεις μακριά από τη Λεμεσό. Η ομάδα μας δήλωσε ως έδρα το Γήπεδο ΓΣΠ στην πρωτεύουσα Λευκωσία, το οποίο είναι το μεγαλύτερο και πιο σύγχρονο γήπεδο της Κύπρου.

Κτίστηκε το 1999, είναι κατηγορίας 4 και έχει χωρητικότητα 22.829 θέσεων.

Οι διαστάσεις του γηπέδου είναι 105mX68m και ο φωτισμός του 1500 Lux.

GSP Stadium

Apollon Limassol is once again competing in European Competitions away from Limassol. Apollon stated as home groud GSP stadium, given that it is the most modern stadium in Cyprus.

Built in 1999, is a category 4 stadium and can seat up to 22.829 people. Its dimensions are 105mX68m and its flood lighting is 15000 Lux.
