The Sanctuary in the woods La Verna Bologna
Competition entry | Honorary winner Lorenzo Guzzini Architecture Graphics, photography assistance - Apoorva John Model assistance - Ayca Yilmaz The design of chapel involved deep understanding of the journey that is to be created, using light, materials and movement to show the story of resurrection of Christ. The passage here allows one to lower themselves into the dark space and descend into central space with light pouring from above. Eventually walking out towards the opening into the woods again. The chapel in a simple manner embodies the emotions into it, while the structure itself submerges itself in the ground whilst becoming one with the woods. The process of working as a part of the team in this project, heightened the understanding of spatial design with respect to the atmosphere and communication with the user and allowed one to have a deeper understanding of phenomenology in architecture.

Perambulating Parabiago Parabiago |Italy Urban design work| Group work | 2021 To reinforce the community both at a local and regional scale, Parabiago’s station towards Piazza Maggiolini, the historic centre, is a primary connection in itself, with the opportunity to reconfigure and reutilise this space. This connection can later undergo greater expansion into preexisting trails and corridors defined by Parabiago’s residents with the Eco-Musuem and routes afforded by the Villoresi canal and Olona river.

Primary school Design Senegal Country in West Africa
Competition entry | 2023 Contributions Graphics, section, renders, creative writing, technical detail - Apoorva John (Myself) 3D Modeling, plans - Ayca Yilmaz In the south of Senegal, there is a region which experiences tropical savanna climate called Casamance region, which is the location of the Primary school project. The main aim of the project is to create a space for learning not only limited to the curriculum but to inspire the children to learn from their environment and create the weaved connection with the community. The design is based on a courtyard plan which symbolizes the bond between the community, and also creates a sense of harmony with nature, children and the village community. The soul of the project lies in the “in-between space” which aims to inspire the communication among the children and the village community. The classrooms are divided into two volumes, one facing the other with a stream of landscaped areas on one side and niche seating areas created by the offset of the volumes on the other side, this creates a personal corner for every child to build a more intimate relationship with their place of schooling.
Faculty Club Bauhaus University | 2023 Weimar Individual work Mentor - Hon.-Prof. Dr. Fritz Barth The project revolves around a the context of erecting a building on the site at the Zeughof in the center of Weimar, which will house two different institutions: the faculty club of the Bauhaus University and the Center International de Scalalogies, CIS for short, the International Center for Staircase Research. Research that, as the name suggests, is dedicated to the scientific research of stairs. Two quite different room programs are to be combined here. In this context Treppenhaus focuses on dealing with the complications of combing these two very different programs and their integration with 8 historically important staircases. With respect to this these functions have therefore been separated into two buildings. While keeping the site context in mind, the buildings have thus been carefully integrated within the urban fabric of Weimar and keen attention is being given to the perception of the spaces with respect to the landscape and hard scape of the spatial arrangement.
La Rocca Architectural Preservation studio - 2nd Semester 2022 M.Sc. Architecture and Urban design Site location - Arquata del Tronto, Italy Instructor - Del Curto Davide, Bianchi Alessandro Group Work- Ani Khvedelidze, Apoorva John, Ayça Yilmaz, In a contemporary scenario characterized by global climate change and by over-quoted keywords such as sustainability, resilience, shrinking city, and urban sprawling, the architectural design overlaps more and more closely with the transformation project of the existing built heritage. The ability to assess the built heritage, the width of the preliminary knowledge on which a project rests on, therefore represents the basis of contemporary design, if not even its quality. Many innovative projects are nowadays developing in this direction when the scrupulous conservation of the remnants operates as an engine to the contemporary design for the re-use of an existing building.
