Topic: The Foundation of the Church:
Ephesians 2:20-22: 20.And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone; 21.In whom all the building fitly framed together groweth unto an holy temple in the Lord: 22. In whom ye also are builded together for an habitation of God through the Spirit. The foundation of the church (body of Christ); is instituted by the proclamation in Ephesians Chapter 2: verse 20: Without the Apostle (Set Man/Battle-Ax), and without the Prophet the (Watchman: the eyes, ears, and the mouthpiece of God): there will be no church. It will
have word, but no power. The Apostle (Set Man): comes to lay out the blueprint (vision): from God to incorporate it into manifestation. On the other hand the Prophet, known as the Watchman comes to confirm the word of the Lord unto the Apostle. The Prophet only comes to confirm the word of the Lord by edification, exhortation and comfort. The Prophets job is to make sure that the sheep (people of God): are protected at all times. They are your gatekeepers. They operate as the bimental consultant unto the Apostle.
1st Corinthians 3:10-11: 10. According to the grace of God which is given unto me, as a wise masterbuilder, I have laid the foundation, and another buildeth thereon. But let every man take heed how he buildeth thereupon. 11. For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ. The grace that is given unto the Apostle and the other governing officers in the church is given by God. It comes by the order of the Laying on of hands and by the spoken word from your pastor. You just can’t pop up and say I’m an Apostle, or an governing officer in
the church without this, or you are false. You are here to build your own kingdom and not God’s Kingdom. And just because someone has been confirmed in their calling does not mean that God has called, nor sent them. The word of God tells us in the book of Romans 15:20: Yea, so have I strived to preach the gospel, not where Christ was named, lest I should build upon another man's foundation: When God sends the Apostle he does not send the Apostle to build upon someone else foundation. He sends the Apostle to a location, area or
territory where no foundation has been built. Matthew 7:24-27: 24. Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock: 25. And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock. 26. And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand: 27. And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat
upon that house; and it fell: and great was the fall of it.
Intro Scripture: System builders:
Apostles are pioneers. They do the missionary work of building churches in new areas of the world where the Lord assigns them to0. The work of the Apostle is just not in new areas, but they also open spiritual areas of revelation and teaching. They open centers, build organizations, and businesses, as the Lord directs them too. Apostles not only build churches, but they train leaders for the churches in the cities where the Holy Spirit has sent them to work. The Apostle will build systems that will keep and grow God’s people. The Apostle Paul wrote letters to the church which are systems. These systems were given to the church to
empower the people where God had assigned the Apostle Paul to go. Paul spent time in prison also, but that did not stop him from writing letters to the churches. The Apostle comes to disciple the people that are in the church. Their primary focus will be to disciple the leaders that are in the church so that they may disciple the saints. The Apostle comes to overseer his churches that he has placed pastors over. The Apostles job is to impart into the leaders lives. Isaiah 58:12: And they that shall be of thee shall build the old waste places: thou shalt raise up the foundations of
many generations; and thou shalt be called, The repairer of the breach, The restorer of paths to dwell in. The Apostle is to rebuild. Nehemiah was an Apostle, even thou the bible does not call him an Apostle. Moses was an Apostle. Nehemiah’s job was to rebuild the walls of Jerusalem. Whether you be an Apostle, Prophet, Pastor, Teacher, Evangelist, Missionary, Elder, Clergyman, or not called into the 5 fold does not mean that God won’t use you. God will use whosoever is willing and obedient, but there is a difference between being called to do a thing vs. desiring to be something.
2nd Timothy 4:7: I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: The Apostle Paul fought a good fight despite the opposition that came against him. In the book of Romans Chapter 8:35-39: 35. Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? 36. As it is written, For thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter. 37. Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us. 38. For I am persuaded, that neither death,
nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, 39. Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord. Paul finished his course places where he was assigned to go to. He kept the faith by building systems.
Thesis: Acts 9:1-19:
1. And Saul, yet breathing out threatenings and slaughter against the disciples of the Lord, went unto the high priest, 2. And desired of him letters to Damascus to the synagogues, that if he found any of this way, whether they were men or women, he might bring them bound unto Jerusalem. 3. And as he journeyed, he came near Damascus: and suddenly there shined round about him a light from heaven: 4. And he fell to the earth, and heard a voice saying unto him, Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou me? 5. And he said, Who art thou, Lord? And the Lord said, I am Jesus whom thou persecutest: it is hard for thee to kick against the pricks. 6. And he trembling and astonished said,
Lord, what wilt thou have me to do? And the Lord said unto him, Arise, and go into the city, and it shall be told thee what thou must do. 7. And the men which journeyed with him stood speechless, hearing a voice, but seeing no man. 8. And Saul arose from the earth; and when his eyes were opened, he saw no man: but they led him by the hand, and brought him into Damascus. 9. And he was three days without sight, and neither did eat nor drink. 10. And there was a certain disciple at Damascus, named Ananias; and to him said the Lord in a vision, Ananias. And he said, Behold, I am here, Lord. 11. And the Lord said unto him, Arise, and go into the street which is called Straight, and
enquire in the house of Judas for one called Saul, of Tarsus: for, behold, he prayeth, 12. And hath seen in a vision a man named Ananias coming in, and putting his hand on him, that he might receive his sight. 13. Then Ananias answered, Lord, I have heard by many of this man, how much evil he hath done to thy saints at Jerusalem: 14. And here he hath authority from the chief priests to bind all that call on thy name. 15. But the Lord said unto him, Go thy way: for he is a chosen vessel unto me, to bear my name before the Gentiles, and kings, and the children of Israel: 16. For I will shew him how great things he must suffer for my name's sake. 17. And
Ananias went his way, and entered into the house; and putting his hands on him said, Brother Saul, the Lord, even Jesus, that appeared unto thee in the way as thou camest, hath sent me, that thou mightest receive thy sight, and be filled with the Holy Ghost. 18. And immediately there fell from his eyes as it had been scales: and he received sight forthwith, and arose, and was baptized. 19. And when he had received meat, he was strengthened. Then was Saul certain days with the disciples which were at Damascus.
ACTS 9:1-31 – THE CALL OF SAUL Summary On his way to Damascus to seek out those who believe that Jesus is God's Messiah and to stop the spread of "the Way," Saul of Tarsus is blinded by a lifechanging encounter with Jesus. Jesus sends him to Damascus, where he sees again and takes up his call of evangelization in Jesus' name. Analysis
A turning point in Acts comes when Saul of Tarsus (whose name is first given as Paul later in Acts 13:9) is called to serve God by proclaiming Jesus as Messiah. The long (by biblical standards) story includes a programmatic statement that describes the course that Saul's work will take in the second half of this book. In 9:15-16, the Lord says to a man named Ananias (not the same Ananias of Acts 5:1-11) about
Saul, "He is an instrument whom I have chosen to bring my name before Gentiles and kings and before the people of Israel; I myself will show him how much he must suffer for the sake of my name." The amount of assistance Saul requires for his calling to come to fruition is worth noting. Blinded by the brilliance of the light in which Jesus' voice is heard, Saul is
led by the hand by his friends to a home where people take him in and keep him safe. He is baptized by a brave Christian, Ananias. Barnabas gives him a chance to preach from his radically changed mind and heart. Saul is off and running. His travels will be complicated and dangerous, but Acts shows him as a respected and respectful evangelist. He never forgets or
denies the importance of the Jerusalem church, even as he preaches far afield among Gentiles all over the northern Mediterranean area. According to Acts, even the abandonment of the traditional Jewish purity laws is supported by Paul with great success, although it is initiated by God through Peter in Acts 10. Paul's call does not take him outside of Jewish life but leads him to extend the joys of
covenant participation through Christ, without the purity laws, to all the families of the earth. Finally, Paul takes the Christian message before high officials in several speeches connected to his trials (Acts 22, 24, 26). He is one to live out and state the claim that is so important for Acts to make, that "this was not done in a corner" (Acts 26:26).
