Watauga students pay regular tuition and fees, plus an additional $100 each year to help offset the cost of their programming
Within the community of Watauga Residential College, students spend a lot of time together in their classes, during meals, and in their residence hall. The sense of community that they harbor helps them challenge each other and grow in new ways together.

What is a residential college?
It is a program within a university that integrates academic and co-curricular programs. Students work with professors both inside and outside the classroom in a way that connects academic coursework with personal and social development • 2+ year experience that is an alternative to regular general education requirments • Living and Learning Environment in the Living Learning Center on campus (suite style housing) • Shared meals and classes with fellow Wataugans and Watauga core faculty • Small seminar-style classes • Involvement in faculty research and advising

Uncover a New Beginning
Watauga Residential College provides incoming freshmen at Appalachian with a different, interdisciplinary, and integrative approach to their general education. Once students meet all of the curricular requirements of WRC (21 credit hours), they will receive a certificate, distinguishing them from other graduates.
