Last year, I highlighted how you can protect yourself before you are injured in a wreck by explaining two key types of insurance you need. I had a lot of questions about this afterwards and wanted to provide this information again because it is so important to protect yourself and your family. Oftentimes, people shop for car insurance based on the price rather than on the type of protection provided. We have cases where someone is severely injured, but the other driver has a “minimum limits” policy which does not even cover a fraction of the medical bills.
Here are two types of insurance that you need to protect yourself if someone else injures you in a wreck:
(1) Underinsured Motorist (“UM” or “UIM”) Coverage. This is insurance that protects you if the at-fault driver doesn’t have insurance or doesn’t have enough insurance.
There are two types of UM insurance: “Add-On” and “ReducedBy.” You always want to have “AddOn” insurance coverage because it goes on top of the at-fault driver’s insurance. I recommend that your UM coverage match your liability coverage, which is the insurance that protects you if you cause a wreck.
(2) Medical Payment Coverage (“Med-Pay”). This is insurance that covers medical bills if you are injured in a car wreck. If you have health insurance, this can be used to cover your co-pays, deductible, and coinsurance. I recommend that you have at least $10,000 in Med-Pay coverage.

It sat amongst our other Perimeter centers like Dunwoody Hall, Ashford Place, Sandy Springs Plaza, Cambridge Square, and Powers Ferry Village (to name a few) and met most of the surrounding needs. When we say “most,” we mean that it provided what the shoppers needed, but not what the Dunwoody community at-large needed. It needed a downtown. It needed a place to socialize and gather with neighbors that other communities in Atlanta benefitted from. Dunwoody deserved something better.
Thank you for being such amazing neighbors...
At the time, we weren’t sure what it would look like, and we remained open to new ideas as we continued to work with our stakeholders in the city and in the community to enhance where we could. Then, one day, preparation met timing and the vision became clear, the right partners got involved, and a dream started to become a reality. The rest of the story is - as they say - history, but one that we chronicled on our YouTube page. Yup, we’ve got one of those and it’s got some pretty cool stuff on it along with our Dunwoody spotlight.

Backpack Buddies of Metro Atlanta is closing the weekend hunger gap for Atlanta’s schoolchildren, one student at a time. Incorporated in 2022 and deploying an efficient model that leverages hundreds of volunteers and dozens of community partner organizations, Backpack Buddies has grown from feeding 800 kids per week to 2,400 in just two school years.
“The community support has been an absolute blessing,” said Board Chair Terri Bagen. “We would not be able to feed these hungry children without the support of everyone along our food procurement and distribution chain. And
now, to be honored by the community this early in our young life, well that just shows how much the Perimeter area has truly welcomed us and gotten behind our mission to nourish food-insecure children throughout the metro.”
Backpack Buddies of Metro Atlanta is located in the Williamsburg at Dunwoody shopping center, at the intersection of Jett Ferry and Mt. Vernon roads.
