Some people use the time to refer to any machine learning, which is a tool for programming and analyzing large data sets. However, I think that there is another way to use the term, and that is to refer to any "machine learning," which includes tools used to automate complex tasks. In the retail sector, machine learning has become a massive topic of interest because it is now possible to automate much of the retail business process by using the internet as a tool. The concept of machine learning was first introduced to the retail technology by IBM's Watson when it was searching through millions of pages of documents to answer questions. The question was, how would the system to answer questions that it had no idea about. Using machine learning, the systems learned how to "see" patterns in the data that IBM then translated into answers that consumers needed. The approach is straightforward in that it takes the input of input and goes through the process of training it with the knowledge of how a business process works. This approach works because the information is labeled with expertise.

As long as a retailer understands how the business process works, then machine learning can create inputs that are appropriate to the industry and the customer. Since this is a learning process, there are a lot of options that the retailer can explore before they settle on one particular method.
