The goal of this project was to design a restaurant that features authentic, Turkish cuisine in a contemporary mid to upscale setting while honoring the culture.

This building is located in the historic district of downtown Izmir, Turkey. Since this building was considered to be under historic preservation, many features in the restaurant are original to the building. This building is to be turned into a restaurant that features authentic Turkish cuisine in a contemporary, mid to upscale setting while honoring the culture. The culture of the Turkish people was heavily researched before deciding the design concept of this restaurant. Aura’s (Chakras) are important in the Muslim culture because they are deeply anchored in one’s spirit representing their mood and intent. It is also important that the definition of Aura is the distinctive atmosphere or quality. The colors of each of the chakras and wanting to have a distinctive positive atmosphere is what inspired the restaurant HAVA.
