WOODEN FORMS
PETER MARIgOLD petermarigold.com
a series of vessels created using a single small piece of wood as a mould. a piece of wood is pasted with hot wax creating an impression of the wood and then moved and repeated, blending it with the previous piece creating an object that is both moulded, yet unique. The wax form is then cast into either plaster or metal blending it into one singular material through one singular action.

By distilling the graceful flowing lines of this cartilagious fish into simple geometric forms, this daybed takes on an elegant weightless stance reminiscent of a stingray swimming.

HOUSE PROUD Purcell Living's new showroom
The glamorous husband-and-wife duo behind high-end furniture line Purcell Living have come up with a chic new way to live above the
store. They've turned the downstairs of their West Hollywood home into an invitation-only showroom for their wares. Alexander Purcell Rodrigues is the tall, dark and handsome designer whose sophisticated, locally made work uses materials in fresh ways. His indoor-outdoor Spiro chair ($2,395), for example, is made of custom-embossed Corian. Alex's leonine-haired wife, Stephanie, is his
business partner and inspiration; a LEED-certified plywood dining table ($1,749) and chair (from $649) collection was named in her honor after she deemed a prototype's layered wood too beautiful to paint.
ambient
Villa Purcell's living, dining and outdoor spaces show how versatile Alex's pieces are: A feminine crystal chandelier works surprisingly well next to sleek dining chairs. And many designs--such as the barrel-chaise Cuscino sofa (from $1,750) and the Stingray daybed (from $6,995)--can be fabricated in outdoor materials. Indoors or out, this is the most Cali-cool collection we've seen in years. To make a Villa visit of your own, request an appointment by clicking below.

EDITOR'S LETTER Do you have a brand philosophy? The vision is to produce innovative design that pushes the boundaries of aesthetics, technology and materials. APRRO aims to make the world a more alluring place one expression at a time and to find the solution to any problem in the surrounding environment. Architecture and furniture design: how have you used your training as an architect to the benefit of APRRO furniture? I have always had a passion for products. I think that if your brain is good at design, you are able to cross the boundaries of the creative process. You can apply this creativity to three-dimensional design right through to the marketing of the product. I love the scale of 3D work and the tactile interaction they allow. Both buildings and furniture start with a conversation about how people should interact with an object.
You speak of a ‘new manufacturing methodology’ – can you elaborate? I like to build a certain amount of customisation into my products, whilst encouraging responsible manufacturing practices. When an object goes into mass manufacture the nuances of the designer can be lost due to shipping quantities, cost per unit, to the amount you can fit in a crate. The APRRO methodology is the antithesis of this. We collaborate with specialist manufacturers such as Studio Caparo and Machine Histories in order to facilitate the creation of limited editions for sale to design-savvy customers. APRRO furniture is made for life. Furniture should be used, enjoyed and loved. If we all shopped like our grandparents then we would have investment pieces that could be handed down through the generations. ‘Maximum customisation’ – is bespoke an over-used term in the design world? Bespoke is slightly different. Bespoke is made to order, whereas ‘maximum customisation’ is really a reference to the Spiro chair in particular. In this instance, you can specify the artwork that goes into the chair.
