2024: A year of challenges, preparation, and progress toward recovery

Written by: Lesley Horsburgh, APSCo Australia Managing Director

It’s been a significant year, in the recruitment market, the economy and more broadly around the globe. While it's been unpredictable at best, patchy for the large part and flat in many markets, the signs are all beginning to point to stronger demand.

While we may need to temper any expectation in consideration of the Christmas slowdown, 2025 is likely to offer recovery for many, particularly those who have planned well, prepared their people and refined processes for efficiency and cost saving.

Here at APSCo we’ve mirrored this preparation, fine tuning our member resources, ensuring we’re talking to members regularly about their needs and mapping out a robust plan for the new year.

This issue throws those who are achieving great outcomes into the spotlight with our special Awards coverage – it’s a competitive space in many market but this years’ finalists and winners should be particularly proud to achieve such standards in a challenging environment.

I’d like to thank all of our members, partners, my team and our Board Directors for their continued support in 2024.

We look forward to supporting all of you in 2025.
