[ our approach ]

How you look is important and good design ensures you always look your best! Thats where we come in. The Aqua Agency is a graphic design agency based in Balmain, Sydney. For over a decade now we have honed our skills in producing and designing communication material seamlessly across brand identity, advertising, brochures, catalogues, magazines and websites. With our in-depth knowledge of branding and design we provide a personal service in a professional environment. Our creative approach, innovative design and personal attention to individual projects are critical aspects of our work and contribute largely to our success.

Aqua have adopted their own unique design process "Drop Splash Ripple" which sets the course for producing remarkable design solutions for you. [ drop ]

[ splash ]

The beginning starts with focusing on gathering as much information as possible about your project. This information comes from you during the initial brief and our subsequent research sourced through various means. We then gather the team together and dive into a think-tank of ideas, approaches and solutions to structure them into an 'ideas portfolio'.

The 'ideas portfolio' becomes the nucleus of the ‘splash’ enabling us to develop and define initial ideas into sound concepts. These ideas are then sketched out, defined, refined and presented to you and, in conjunction with you, brought to fruition.

This is the go-to-market stage where the project is released into it’s environment and the effect on the proposed audience can be appreciated. It takes two to tango but you only need to harness our experience and the creative talents of our design team to reap the benefits of great design.

London’s vibrant, innovative dining scene.

Twenty years ago, there wasn’t a lot to recommend in London’s dining scene. It was expensive and stuffy, and good produce and chefs were thin on the ground – unless, of course, you had enough disposable income to buy whatever memorable dinner your heart desired. These days, it couldn’t be more different. The city has one of the most vibrant, innovative dining scenes of any world capital, standing proudly alongside those of New York and Paris. It still helps if your wallet’s sizeable, but excellent London dining is now accessible to just about anyone. Take, for example, the gastro-pub, a phenomenon that emerged in the late nineties and continues to flourish. These are places that make Sunday lunch with friends an absolute pleasure – relaxed surroundings, pints of good ale and great meals. The Duke of Cambridge in Islington opened 10 years ago, sporting its organic credentials before these became a cause du jour, and is still the only pub in the UK to be certified by the Soil Association. The menu changes daily depending on what’s available, but expect dishes like smoked organic salmon and pickled fennel with buttered brown bread, or crispy pork belly with apple, watercress and mange-tout (snowpeas). Round out the meal with an SB lager, the only organic draught lager brewed in London. Also popular is The Cow, Tom Conran’s Irish pub in Westbourne Grove. Sit downstairs in the pub proper to sup on Guinness and oysters, or check out the upstairs dining room, known for its seasonal menu. Even celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay has got in on the act, opening The Narrow in Limehouse (one of three Ramsay-branded casual eateries), which offers classic English fare – hake and chips with marrow fat peas, and Cumberland bangers, champ and onion gravy, for example – in a nononsense room with river views. Another London trend that’s hard to ignore is the diversity of ethnic cuisine on offer. Try Jerk City in Soho for a taste of Caribbean: here, reggae 65

New research published in the March edition of the International Journal of Behavioural Nutrition and Physical Activity, shows that people who acquired a dog increased their recreational walking by 48 minutes per week compared with an increase of only 12 minutes per week for people who did not acquire a dog during the period of the study. “Moderate exercise, such as walking, has proven health benefits for people of all ages but it is especially important for older people as it has a low impact no cost option that has a lot of health benefits.”

Exercise to beat depression In a study of more than 2500 Australians, conducted by the Black Dog Institute, it was found that of all therapies apart from drug treatments and psychotherapies, exercise was rated the most effective treatment for depression. It was followed by yoga/meditation, relaxation and massage.

National Heart Foundation aims to tackle overweight and obesity in children The campaign, known as ‘Unplug and Play’, aims to get parents to encourage children to substitute watching television for some form of physical activity. Research by the government’s Physical Activity Taskforce found that on weekdays, primary children, on average, spend between two and four hours a day in front of the TV and this time almost doubles by the time they reach high school. According to Trevor Shilton, Cardiovascular Health Director for the National Heart Foundation, research shows that this time spent in front of the TV is increasing the rate of obesity, diabetes, heart disease, high blood cholesterol and a range of other problems, including social problems. Trevor Shilton says parents are not aware of the amount of physical activity their children need for good health and the majority of parents surveyed were not aware that children should accumulate 60 minutes of physical activity each day.

How to reduce anger and gain control of your life Anger can be a signal that your entire life is out of control. You can reduce stress by learning to think and react more positively and by prioritising how you use your time. Exercise every day is important and also it is important to make sure you have sufficient rest. You should also make it a priority to do more of what you enjoy doing. Walk away from situations which make you feel out of control. Practising religion has also been found to be beneficial for many people. Remember that your attitude to life is more important than how much money you have or how good you look. A positive attitude can help you through difficult times.

Acid wear a problem for teeth

Researchers at Deakin University surveyed 725 women, aged from 18 to 65 years, from different socioeconomic groups on whether they thought more time and knowledge was needed to eat a healthy diet. Addressing the Dietitian’s Association of Australia (DAA) national conference in May 2008, Dr Inglis said people on lower incomes are more likely to fall short of the recommended intake of fruit and vegetables, and are more likely to eat a diet higher in fat and added sugar. “This puts them on the fast track to diseases like type 2 diabetes and heart disease,” said Dr Inglis. To gain confidence in the kitchen, focus on food that is quick and easy to prepare, such as lean meat, vegetable casseroles, and jacket potatoes topped with kidney beans and chopped salad vegetables.

According to the Australian Dental Association, acids in some beverages like fruit juice, sports, soft and caffeinated drinks can contribute to acid wear and affect the health of teeth. Dr Richard Nirui, dental surgeon from Sydney said “Acid wear is a growing problem in our modern society and is a major contributor to the wear and tear of the tooth structure. It can lead to tooth erosion resulting in an irreversible loss of enamel (the hardest tissue in the human body). This is why it’s so important to protect teeth enamel against the effects of Acid Wear.”

Ban on smoking leads to decrease in heart attack rates The European Society of Cardiology together with other health institutions has continually informed the public of the overwhelming evidence of the adverse effects of smoking on cardiovascular health. The European Guidelines on Cardiovascular prevention warn that smoking is responsible for 50 per cent of all avoidable deaths and that smoking causes heart attacks at any age.

Practise yoga and reap the benefits After a yoga class you will feel relaxed and balanced, with your muscles loose and strong. As you gain strength and progress through the movements, yoga can even offer some aerobic benefits. However don’t expect this to happen in a few months. It does take time. Yoga exercises are commonly called poses, and the standing poses will burn the most calories. In Iyengar yoga, beginners start with standing poses and then progress towards more complex ones.

EASY WAYS

to make exercise a habit

1. HAVE A VARIETY OF ACTIVITIES YOU ENJOY. Having a variety of activities- weight lifting, walking, running, tennis, cycling, aerobics classes will ensure that you do something regardless of the weather or time of day

2. COMMIT TO ANOTHER PERSON Working out with a partner or friend doing a combination of exercises can provide the much needed support to continue with your program

3. MAKE EXERCISE A PRIORITY If you make exercise your priority it will become part of your identity, and it will mean that your exercise is non-negotiable

4. EXERCISE FIRST THING IN THE

MORNING Experts agree that a morning schedule is best. If you go to a gym, it should be located between your home and work. Exercise, take a shower, and you’re energised for the day.

5. OR EXERCISE ON YOUR WAY HOME

FROM WORK It has been suggested that the next best thing to exercising first thing in the morning is to exercise on your way home from work. “ There are not a lot of people who are so motivated that after they go home and change clothes will go back out again and exercise.”

DON’T FORGET: EXERCISE EVEN WHEN YOU ARE TOO TIRED Exercising energises you. During activity you will get an exercise –induced euphoria during the activity for some time after. LOG YOUR ACTIVITY Write down the things that are important to you. It could be how much time you exercise each day, how many steps you walked, how far you ran or cycled and what you weigh. You should use a pedometer and work up to at least 10000 steps per day. REWARD YOURSELF Experts say that making behaviour changes is hard, and rewards motivate. So decide on a goal and a reward and work toward it.

[ our green credentials ]

The Aqua Agency promotes the use of environmentally friendly and sustainable methods. We like to do our bit for the planet and actively recycle and, where possible, reuse all paper products within the studio while in-house printing is kept to a minimum, all appropriate containers are recycled and we compost all organic kitchen waste. We endeavour to be energy efficient as possible by using natural light and energy efficient light bulbs. We use 100% GreenPower and are part of SustainableChoice, a sustainable procurement program for NSW local government.

But most importantly is the choice of printer we use. We choose only to work with certified ‘green’ printers and our preferred printer has won a number of awards for their achievements and became the world’s first carbon neutral printer. Our printers credentials and processes: • Computer to plate (CtP) • Cleaner Production Processes • Vegetable based inks (non toxic) • Certified Environmental Management System ISO 14001 • Certified Quality System 9001: 2000 When possible we will use 100% recycled paper otherwise we only use paper from plantation forests which are managed, grown and produced under ISO 14001 Environmental Management System or FSC accredited. Our preferred printers also have a Chain-of-Custody Certification which verifies that products from certified forests are not mixed with products from uncertified forests at any point in the supply chain which assures the customers that the certified goods they buy are genuinely the products of a wellmanaged forest.
