For three decades HF scientific has developed specialized expertise in measurements for water quality. Our original involvement in water-quality focused on Turbidity measurement. These products have positioned us as one of the worldwide leaders in Turbidity measurement and monitoring. Over the years our expertise expanded to include devices for monitoring other parameters such as Residual Chlorine, Streaming Current and UV% Transmission. We are now excited to expand our product offering with the addition of our new AdvantEDGE Series™ of measurement electrodes. These electrode systems have been designed to reduce equipment and installation costs while improving reliability. Measurement parameters include pH, ORP, Free Chlorine, Raw Water Turbidity, Dissolved Oxygen, Optical Dissolved Oxygen, Dissolved Ozone, Contacting Conductivity and Toroidal Conductivity. The AdvantEDGE Series™ systems feature factory pre-calibrated electrodes. The electrodes can subsequently be checked for calibration, diagnosed and configured directly from a PLC or other computer system (e.g., SCADA). Although they are available for use if desired, a local display/analyzer is not necessary. Numerous integrated communications protocols are supported, including Modbus RTU, RS-232, RS-485 ASCII, Profibus, CANOpen, DeviceNet, Ethernet IP, and USB. Contact us directly or call the HF scientific representative serving your area to learn how the new AdvantEDGE Series™ can bring your facility into a new generation of water quality monitoring.

AdvantEDGE series™ The AdvantEDGE sensor assembly consists of three components designed for direct connection to control systems without the need for intermediate analyzer electronics. A Communications Module plugs into the back of the Interface Module and provides direct interactive communication of measurement, configuration, calibration and diagnostic information with computers and networks. A full family of sensor heads plug into the front of the Interface Module and automatically provides calibrated, high resolution measurements.
Communications Adapter
Provides power and direct interactive communication with control systems and computers. A selection of plug and play communication modules provide power and direct interactive communications with control systems and computers. The table below shows the available protocols. If a local display is desired, the LD500 can be used. Multiple sensor assemblies can be used with the LD500.
Interface Module
The heart of the sensor assembly is the Universal Interface Module. It’s encapsulated measurement electronics automatically converts sensor signals into calibrated measurement units. It works with a variety of Communication Modules to operate directly with any computer system.
Sensor Head
Pre-calibrated plug and play sensor heads can be replaced at any time, making AdvantEDGE the most versatile and accurate analytical measurement system on the market. The table below shows the parameters available.

AdvantEDGE Optical Dissolved Oxygen • Robust • Cost Effective Options • No Calibration Hassles • Low Maintenance • Accurate
The AdvantEDGE sensor uses the latest technology to measure dissolved oxygen (DO) in demanding environments. The AdvantEDGE series™ Optical Dissolved Oxygen RDO® sensor offers several advantages for monitoring DO in process applications:
Specifications Sensor Type Transmitter/local display Range Accuracy (DO) Response time, cap Resolution Usage life of cap Shelf life of cap Operating temperature IP rating Compliance Storage conditions, cap Storage conditions, sensor Salinity range pH range Barometric range Internal mounting thread Communications options Maximum cable length Warranty
The AdvantEDGE sensor measures dissolved oxygen (DO) using the principle of “dynamic luminescence quenching.” The sensor (Figure 1) uses lifetime-based optical fluorescent technology to provide an extremely stable, accurate, lowPhotodiode maintenance DO sensor. The sensor measures the “phase” (or delay) of the returned signal for Sensor Diagnostics compared to the excitation signal, and is thus based on the “lifetime” rather than the “intensity” of the luminescence. The presence of oxygen in the foil quenches the Figure 1: AdvantEDGE sensor design luminescence and causes a phase shift in the returned signal, detected by the photodiode. The phase difference between the blue excitation light and the return red light is measured, and the result is used to quantify DO.
