The social housing estates in Milan have been facing severe problems. At the same time, urban regeneration which is the recreation or improvement of an area experiencing urban decline has become an important issue in the development of contemporary city,While disused railway yard lands in Milan are opening for sustainable redevelopment.

Project grabs this great opportunity to satisfy needs and demands of the city as well as the local needs by the redevelopment the one of the such area of the Greco railway yard. Proposed Masterplan formulates the framework for the program that is to require to be implemented in the site. Proposed new district integrated with vertical and horizontal agricultural practices in the fringe of muncipalty 2 of Milan, blurs the boundry between the urban and periurban urban areas by blending into each other Thus this Urban regeneration of this area has been done through Systematic strategies followed the by the actions.

New Green Infrastructure Integration and complexities

Disused Railyards of Milan

Seven disused railway yards for a total surface area of 1,000,000 Sqm, located just around the city center of Milan, have been transformed from railway destinations to urban destinations. These yards are a part of strategic regeneration plan, regulated by an agreement among the city of Milan, Regione lombardia & ferrovie dello stato Italiane. This concerns the economics revenues from the development operation to improve railway service in the Milan hub & the creation of a ‘Circle - Line’ .

Transportation Network

Green Network

The site comprises three main parcelst the former railway yard next to the station, a green area located further east and a narrow long strip, the site of a disused track facing the Bicocca district.

New Urban District in the City

District is divided into two divisions by the Via Earnesto Breda, hence one part of is mainly proposed to be use for the affordable student housing and other housing complex for the skilled workers from surronding.

Buildings takes the advantage of having main street front to use it for commercial spaces such as shops, cafes, restaurants which can makes it vibrant commercial street specially during the evening.

Interal Courtyard, with rainwater ponds, provides scenic views from the ramp having gathering spaces on it as well as from the internal cafes, restaurants and bars etc.

Preservation of Existing agricutural acitvities in the site and Promoting it by means of making it stand as an vertical farming building setting up as an landmark for this new Urban public space.

The proposal aims to build a new relationship between the Naviglio della Martesana and River Adda through a new green corridor along with pedestrian - bicycle connection and various spaces along with it.

Further, a masterplan has been prepared for the existing urban void - Ex-Linificio industry which has been abandoned many years, is proposed to be reused and developed as a new Social hub for the people to gather for different activtiies. This includes temporary and permanant exhibition halls, experimental theaters, Multipurpose halls, Auditoriums. Along with this, various recreational spaces are proposed along with cafes, restaurants hopping plazas etc. The proposal also openes up a new public plaza for people to gather together by demolition of buildings which are not in good state.

Thus the new connection and new Social hub can become new meeting point for the people to enjoy in the Commune of Cassano di Adda.

Naviglio della Martesana

Naviglio della Martesama in Milan and its, metrpolitan regions represent an element of not onlu local, but great cultural and historical interest. Naviglio passes through eastern side of provice uniting the Adda to Milan, where its route Cascina di Pomm, in the open ends and it contiues underground. The type of landscape shows a clear prevalence of natural area in first part and between trezzo d’dadd and the curve of cassano. In the second part from Cassano d’Adda to Gorgonzola, farming lands alternates with urban centers , esentially there is balance between historical parts and recently urbanized areas.

Cassano d’Adda, is and urban center where Naviglio turns 90 degrees from river with seprated by this town. Idea is to initiate a communication between the river and its canal through a green corridor with improved accessibility to and from each other.

This thesis aims to use the knowledge of the site for the formulation of the strategies and recommendations for addressing contemporary environmental issues related to alpine rivers. Using the case study of the Oglio river’s Basin in northern Italy, this thesis tries address the main weaknesses of the planning of river and its basin in Italy today. The thesis also focuses on the human interaction with river which has impacted a lot to river, which will further help in producing design and mitigation strategies to defend it and to build a better new relationship between humankind and the Nature. This framework of strategies will also be a prototype for the development of the not only Italian alps, also the other alpine regions to form the resilient improvement.

Thesis proposes to potential lands of quarries placed along the edges of Oglio river in lower valley to be converted into different usauge considering potential needs of site in order to restore the basin of the river.

This amply illustrates the variety of benefits and services the Alps offer to both people and the natural world. This clearly reflects the multiple values and services the Alps provide for people and Nature alike. at the same time, these values are increasingly under threat. Climate change, for example, affects the Alps more than any other regions in Europe, with an average temperature increase already exceeding the maximum 2 degree celcius.

Focused area in lower Valcamonica is found to be highly anthropized. Human activities has changed rivers landscapes thoroughly which specially includes high escavation activities. In future, withing several years, these quarries can become a opportunity for creating the room for River i.e. to expand rivers basin. Quarries are different with respect to their location and sizes. Hence the proposal identifies the suitable developments along this new edge of river.

The project proposes a profound approach to Urban and Architectural design which foresees an advanced level of complexity. The city of Yazd in Iran (UNESCO Heritage Site since 2017) will be the main context in which we experience the relation between a consolidated city, with strong identity and a relevant cultural value, and the new Urban and architectural projects. The aim is to explore the possibilities for contemporary urban models to be projected in a delicate context with seismic issues, without renouncing the opportunity of respecting the memory and identity of the place as well as providing the new ones.

The housing model is flexible toward site-specific design, constructively responsive and innovative toward this urban context of the site and the historical value of cultural heritage in the vicinity. The housing composition and housing design have a deep understanding of the UNESCO buffer zone’s regulations and possibilities, and the design respects socio-cultural aspects of design for Yazd city.

The proposal aims to respect the existing morphology of
