Connaught place, New Delhi, commonly known as CP, a commerce hub, in time has fulfilled many purposes. Today it is a public market and a recreational spot as well as a transit hub for metro. Its fabric has a narrative history, economics and a reputation, holding a great potential for the future. The old structure, built 100 years ago, is seen crumbling day by day. It has served its purpose for the years but needs to be ready for the years to come. The site holds many opportunities. If done right, it may start a revolution in designing our cities with changing circumstances and the challenges of tomorrow. Delhi being one of the most polluted cities in the world, shows an alarming situation making city unlivable day by day. Effective solutions provided at one place may work like an inception for whole city and beyond. This Design concept will act as a prototype, transforming the city, the country and eventually galvanizing the whole world. New CP, is superior and resilient, drives a stirring insurgent present situation, throughout the world. Providing open spaces, keeping humanity and culture alive; furnishing street with lively activities, social life and health, the new CP is an innovation that stimulates minds all over.

OPEN PLAZA CUM SHOPPING AREA

SLUM REDEVELOPMENT BSUP, LUDHIANA, PUNJAB (INDIA) LOW - COST HOUSING | DESIGN STUDIO | 2019

Situated in the heart of the highly urbanized city of Ludhiana, the project aims to redevelop the site for low cost housing under the scheme of BSUP, JNNURM (India). The development will mainly see workers from skilled workforces. The design aims to have a total of 1500+ low cost dwelling units with a goal of self sustaining economic activities flourishing in the site. All the dwelling units are planned with ample space keeping in mind of future inhabitants with the average capacity of 6 people. The units are hence segregated with areas of 38 Sq.m., 32 Sq.m. and 28 Sq.m. The site plan focuses of providing maximum open areas for a mixed approach of usage to promote maximum use of open spaces for various uses. Workshops and shops with area of 15 Sq.m. have been provided uniformly all along the site for renting out by the users. A community area, primary health center, small scale cottage industry building and a school has been planned for in the northern part of the site.

BIRDBOX RETREAT GURDASPUR, PUNJAB (INDIA) ECO-RESORT | DESIGN STUDIO | 2019

The only major natural wetland in the State, the reserve is spread over 850 acres of marshy land near Gurdaspur. It was designated as Indiaâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s first community reserve under the Wildlife Protection Act and attracts hundreds of thousands of migratory birds from Central Asia and Siberia in the winters. The Resort will renew the strength of the wetlands surrounding the creek and its diversity as a living ecosystem will promote riparian habitat for migrating birds and endangered wildlife. Additionally it will enrich the experience of a lush and rich landscape as a retreat from a busy urban life. Strengthening the existing ecosystem the Wetland Resort in Gurdaspur recreates a water-scape with a constructed wetland water-body around which the villas are clustered as stilted pavilions. Inspired by the nest of mallard ducks (found in that region), the villas are designed to camouflage with the natural scenery.

The overall planning and landscape blends into the natural surroundings of the wetland. All the buildings are oriented to provide a scenic view to the wetland. The villas are the main focus of the resort. The site consists of 10 villas which are clustered around an artificial constructed wetland. The constructed wetland reduces the pollutants from storm water run off and improves air quality. The materials are locally available - bamboo, thatch, stone and wood. The bamboo structures are covered with thatched roof, expressing a vernacular culture as well as reducing environmental impacts, keeps cool in summers and warm in winters. Plots are landscaped with a mix of trees, flowering plants, bushes, reeds, lawn, sand pits, and water bodies. The plantation has been sensitively selected to suit all aspects of the soil, ambiance and maintenance. 28

The design of the cottages takes inspiration from the nest of Mallard ducks that are native migratory birds to the site. The presence of these nests protruding out from the wetlands inspired us to incorporate the structure to the cottages. The structure is mimicked by using thatched roof curving along the bamboo framework. Finally the habitable floors are raised on stilts that provide with the scenic views of the wetland.

Villas in this resort are of 3 types, Type ‘A’ with single bedroom, Type ‘B’ with two bedrooms and Type ‘C’ with three bedrooms. The villas are planned along the wetlands offering wide views of the wetlands. For this the front elevation has been kept with a glass featured circular window that doubles up as a door for the access to the balcony. The frame of the structure is with bamboos that were found abundantly in the site. The walls give proper insulation to the occupants keeping a proper thermal comfort inside. The thatch roof extends as outer walls curving up for proper drainage and protection from severe climatic conditions of the area. The ground floors of the villas are fully equipped with a fully functional outdoor kitchen serving to the guests. This floor further extends up-to the deck that connect even the ground floor to the scenic views of the wetland.

SHOPPING MALL CUM OFFICE SABARMATI RIVERFRONT, AHMEDABAD, GUJRAT DESIGN STUDIO | 2018

Located near the banks of the river Sabarmati in Ahmedabad, this Shopping Mall cum Office aims to enrich the river front development with more of a rich and varied economical heritage of Gujrat. The design incorporates a 5 level dedicated office space along with a shopping blocks, food courts, plazas and multiplexes. The shopping mall boasts of a barrier free designs keeping sensitive local culture in mind. With ample car parkings in the basement, the mall opens up access to a lot of footfall. The amount of people getting in the site is accentuated by accesses provided from all around the site. The design finally revolves around giving the visitors the whole scenic view of the riverfront as well as the beautiful skyline of the city of Ahmedabad.

PUBLIC LIBRARY PRAGATI MAIDAN, DELHI (INDIA) DESIGN STUDIO | 2018

The aim of this project was to design a public library right alongside the site of the great Hall of Nations in Delhi. The design intends to look forward and cater to the growing need of public libraries and provide all the state of the art facility for a better user experience. Over to that the library has been designed with basic principles of sustainability with maximum efforts in optimizing the thermal comfort. Passive design techniques have been included in the design to keep the said goals. The Building is designed upon layers. The first layer is of the skin. The Skin composed of louvers and jali let the light enter into the building with the added benefit of creating a Thermal Mass. The Second Layer is of the insulated air pockets. These air pockets that provide insulation; a stationary layer of air which is a good thermal insulator. The Third layer is of the building core or the basic habitable space.

The design facilitates smoother movement of users all along the library. The levels are all divided with different programs fit into them. The ground floor features a more open and public space with carols and periodical areas with general stacks and study areas. A cafeteria planned around the childrenâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;sâ&#x20AC;&#x2122; section gives a more casual experience to the user. The two levels of basements aims for a more sophisticated work areas, with admin areas and private reading cabins and research scholar areas dedicated with a private feel. A 150 cap auditorium is tucked away in the basement. The floors above the ground floor alternates with a full level floor and mezzanine floors. The whole of the levels above are designed for stacks and reading areas. The alternate mezzanine levels are dedicated for stack storage. The extra floor thus achieved gives room to an additional 90,000 books.
