2024 AHA ABOUT THE ASSOCIATION
Welcome to the heritage of the Arabian horse. Where the beauty, athleticism, and heart of the oldest pure breed of horse in the world comes to life. Whether you are a show enthusiast, an active trail or distance rider or simply enjoy spending time with horses, the Arabian is perfect for every discipline, age, and adventure. AHA is a full-service breed association and registry. We offer a variety of activities, programs, competitions, and opportunities for you to explore. We are happy to welcome you to the Arabian horse Community!
The Arabian Horse Association (AHA) was formed in 2003, as the result of a merger of the Arabian Horse Registry of America (founded in 1908) and the International Arabian Horse Association (founded in 1950). The purpose of formulating AHA was to create an organization of like-minded Arabian horse enthusiasts, and provide a focal point for their favorite recreational or competitive activities. AHA is the official Arabian horse breed association and registry in the U.S. and Canada, with 14,000+ members and more than one million registered Arabian, Half-Arabian and AngloArabian horses. The AHA Registry was created in 1908 and was formerly known as the Arabian Horse Registry of America.
As a full-service non-profit breed association, AHA seeks to meet the breeding, competitive and recreational interests of all Arabian horse owners. We offer over 280 events and competitions and have the largest online marketplace, bringing enthusiasts together to share the joys of Arabian horse ownership. We administer approximately one million in annual prize money, produce national events, maintain official event records and provide activities and programs that promote breeding and ownership.
At AHA’s Annual Convention, delegates from 18 geographical regions meet annually to elect officers and other governing bodies, and vote on rules that
affect the Arabian horse industry. Our Executive Committee and Board of Directors represent the interests of Arabian horse owners throughout the U.S. and Canada.
AHA supports the efforts of the US Equestrian and the US Center for SafeSport to provide a program, information, and a reporting and investigation process to protect our Junior Exhibitors and Amateurs from abuse, including sexual, emotional, and physical misconduct, as well as bullying, harassment, and hazing.
AHA is responsible for appointing 33% of the USEF Arabian Rules Committee and recommending an additional 33% while USEF appoints the remaining 33%. The appointees will be decided on by the AHA President, with consult of the current Chair of the USEF Arabian Rules Committee, the Executive Director of the Arabian Horse Association will choose the members of USEF Arabian Rules Committee, the proposed membership will require approval of the Executive Committee of the Arabian Horse Association prior to submission to USEF.
A portion of the AHA appointees for the USEF Arabian Rules Committee , currently 33%, are required to be athletes. An athlete is defined as a competitor who has competed within the last 10 years at any AHA National Championship (exception: Canadian Nationals) and has placed in the top 10.
The Arabian Horse Association exists for growth in the number of people having a passion to own and enjoy the Arabian, Half-Arabian and Anglo-Arabian horse.

2024 AHA EXECUTIVE LETTERS
ANOTHER YEAR IS COMING to a close and this time of year allows us to reflect on all that has happened in 2024. We contemplate not just our accomplishments but what we have experienced and observed as well. On a personal note, as I recall this year’s experiences through the eyes of our broad and diverse Arabian community, I am genuinely amazed at all that has transpired.
I have the good fortune in my role to be able to travel to many events, meetings and interact with our Arabian family and with the Equestrian community as well. Although we may have different views there remains a common thread in our respect, admiration and love for the Arabian horse. Everywhere I go, I enjoy hearing your interesting stories and get to witness first-hand how the horse connects us all.
Together we have had the opportunity to engage at a multitude of events and at an incredible number of virtual opportunities to move the enterprise of the Arabian Horse Association forward. We had the first Fireside with our members and two very engaging Town Halls. We are meeting our members where they are, and we have even more plans for 2025.
This is AHA’s first Annual Report and yet my last year to serve as your President. We have been through an amazing four years. The global COVID-19 pandemic, three virtual conventions, two ransomware incidents, the second Purebred Arabian Trust lawsuit, the sale of our Bethany address headquarters and the transition to our Greenwood Village home, and the loss of several in our Arabian family. Together we continue to demonstrate resolve and resilience to have the vision to move AHA forward.
Some of the events I was able to witness our wonderful horses included the 22nd Sport Horse Nationals and the 58th U.S. Nationals, and even attended with horses at the 135th Tournament of Roses Parade, the 32nd Youth Nationals/5th Mid Summer Nationals, Region 3 Championships, Scottsdale, and the Pacific Slope Championships.
In the equine community we continue to lead with our fellow breeds in the United States Equestrian Federation at both the Annual Meeting and the Mid-Year and with meetings throughout the year as I serve on the Executive Committee, Board of Directors, Governance Committee, National Breeds & Disciplines Council and the Arabian Rules Committee. We work with the USEF as we continue to commit to Equine Welfare and human athlete safety. We have been pleased to have USEF representatives at the Scottsdale show, Youth & Mid Summer Nationals, the USEF President at U.S. Nationals and the USEF CEO and Chief of Sport at our Convention.
We continue to work with Equestrian Canada and ensure we are all working together as we move the rules through the Evergreen Process and support our Canadian membership.
In January 2024 many in the Arabian family were recognized for their excellence at the Pegasus Awards including Cecile Hetzel-Dunn with the Lifetime Achievement Award! We have several nominees in for the awards coming up in January 2025 and we are looking forward to another great evening.
Over the year we have had several points of success in our governing documents, our technologies, our leadership, our show ring growth, and our industry recognition. We have engaged with three outside firms to assist us with our communications, our surveys and our strategic plan
Once again, our Arabian community of volunteers has contributed significantly with their time and talent. The energy and attention of these dedicated members contributes a significant amount of value to the Arabian Horse Association. We thank each and every one of you!
As we head into 2025, I look forward to seeing you at our events and to supporting our next President. It is our connection with the horse that creates a common bond and a passion like none other. In unity we have strength and together we can ensure the Arabian horse endures long beyond each of us.

DEBORAH JOHNSON / PRESIDENT
For me, life with horses began in 1975, and my passion for the Arabian horse in 1979. Servant leadership, with the Arabian Horse Association, was always a core passion and happily started 1989. Academically I earned an MA in Speech Communication and BS in Business Administration from the University of Nevada, Reno. My passion for competition as a youth, amateur and professional remains to this day. Additionally, I enjoy adjudicating many of our shows at all levels of competition. Today, I own and operate Reno-Tahoe Equestrian Centre, Inc. RTEC is a business that actively cultivates new people to equines and ultimately the Arabian horse industry. We have a large active clientele that spans from entry to National Championship levels. With over 25 years as a self-employed professional in our industry I am honored to continue to mentor future professionals and students in our breed.
LISA BLACKSTONE / VICE PRESIDENT
Lisa Blackstone graduated from the University of Georgia with a BA in Philosophy. She transitioned into the financial world as a stockbroker and a decade later returned to law school and earned a legal degree from her alma mater. She now has her own law practice in the Atlanta area, and is a founding member of the Equine Section of the Georgia Bar. Lisa began riding horses as a child, learning the fundamentals of horsemanship, judging and showing. She then operated a family-owned Arabian horse training and breeding business in the 1980s and 1990s. Lisa continues to compete as an amateur on a local, regional and national level. She also holds her Arabian judges license and regularly judges some of the industry's largest shows. She is an active participant in the political process governing equine sport. Besides serving as Vice President of the AHA, she is currently Chair of the USEF Ethics Committee, co-Chair of the USEF Hearing Committee, and sits on the USEF Licensed Officials Committee.
PETER CONWAY / VICE PRESIDENT AT-LARGE
Chairman and founder, Peter Conway, established HALCON in 1977 with a desire to produce the best wood furniture in the industry. HALCON's continued success is rooted firmly in a culture of quality, innovation and a commitment to long-term partnerships with clients, suppliers, and employees. Today, we are an award-winning, family-owned and operated company with a passion for excellence. Peter and his wife Lori own and operate Conway Arabians. Their mission is "We have a clear vision of what our Arabian horses should be. Strong, sound athletes that are beautiful to behold and a pleasure to be around. Merely being pretty is not enough; the horses of Conway Arabians are doing horses, bred to have the conformation and temperament to perform in the show-ring or on the trail".
JAN DECKER / SECRETARY
In 1969 my husband and I built our current public stable facility that we have owned and operated ever since. We have shown or coached Arabians and Half-Arabians to Top Ten or better at multiple shows in multiple disciplines. While we currently pasture board horses, we have discontinued active show participation as exhibitors due to other equine commitments. I hold USEF licenses in, Arabian, Morgan, National Show Horse, and Western. I also am a licensed American Miniature Horse Association Judge as well as a Pinto Horse Association Judge. I have also been very active in local and national club activities for a variety of breeds, and have served on countless committees and boards in various positions over the past 30+ years. Currently I serve as the Arabian Horse Association Secretary.
NANCY A HARVEY / IMMEDIATE PAST PRESIDENT
I have been a member since the early 70s. I became an Arabian person with the acquisition of a Half-Arabian mare who was actually given to me. Receiving both a Bachelor in Ag Management & Masters in Ag Science from Cali Poly Pomona, I currently sit on the Presidents Advisory Committee for the W.K. Kellogg Arabian Horse Center at that University. Whilst I spent 20 years in the printing industry, I have always pursued my passion in the horse industry as a judge, licensed official and volunteer. Currently, I run a boutique computer business that caters to a small clientele, while also working in show management for approximately 20 shows a year in all divisions, including Morgans, Saddlebreds, Hunter/Jumper.
The energy to keep up, people-pleasing personality and a sensitive nature are qualities that make the Arabian horse a fitting companion.

2024 AHA REGISTRATION
MAKE ARABIAN HORSE OWNERSHIP COUNT
Registration increases the value of your horse, makes it more marketable and opens the door to many local, regional and national activities available to registered horses. When you register an Arabian, Half-Arabian or Anglo-Arabian horse, it becomes part of the official breed and an official breed statistic used to make nationa l decisions about open space, insurance coverage and other issues important to horse-owning communities. Honor the Arabian breed through registration.
WHAT IS REGISTRATION?
The Arabian Horse Association (AHA) serves as the official registry for both purebred Arabian horses and Half-Arabian and Anglo-Arabian horses. It contains more horses than any other Arabian registry in the world! This registry is used to track the Arabian heritage and is a resource for breeders, riders, competitions, and so much more.
WHY REGISTER?
Registration provides key benefits. To begin, registration honors the legacy of a horse whose roots may go back thousands of years and allows for its offspring to qualify for registration. From a practical standpoint, certificates of registration add marketability and make a horse eligible to:
• Compete at more than 320 AHA-recognized shows and distance rides annually
•Earn recognition through many AHA-sponsored programs
• Enter programs that showcase breeding and have the potential to earn prize money such as Halter Futurity, Performance Futurity/ Maturity/Derby futurities, and Arabian Breeders Sweepstakes
• Increase a horse’s value through registration in a recognized breed registry
• Participate in racing at many tracks across the United States
•Another great feature is that Half-Arabian and Anglo-Arabian horses can often be double-registered, allowing participation in activities at AHA and other breed organizations
SEARCH ARABIAN PEDIGREES, PROGENY & MORE
Researching pedigrees is an honored tradition among Arabian horse owners and breeders who value the historic bloodlines of this oldest and purest breed. The Arabian Horse DataSource, an online service that offers full pedigrees and progeny listings for 689,000 Pure bred Arabians; 376,800 Half- and Anglo-Arabians and 415,600 Arabians from foreign registries.

THE ARABIAN SHOW HORSE — A BRIEF HISTORY
From the ancient deserts of the Middle East evolved the oldest known breed of riding horse, the Arabian. Now one of the most popular breeds in America, the Arabian’s incredible energy, intelligence and gentle disposition allow riders to excel in most equine sports and activities. Today, Arabian horses spend as much time on the trail as they do at horse shows and other competitive events. Historically, the Arabian was a war horse capable of withstanding the extreme conditions of the Arabian Desert and covering long distances, while moving quickly in and out of battle.
The traits that were bred into the Arabian through ancient times created a versatile horse that is not only a beautiful breed, but one that excels at many activities.
In the show ring, the Arabian is exceptional in English and Western pleasure competition. The Arabian is well known for his balance and agility. Combined with his high intelligence and skillful footwork, he is more than capable in driving and reining events. For speed, agility and gracefulness, you’ll want an Arabian.
