A plethora of high-street brands also allows you the chance to achieve catwalk looks for a fraction of the price. The mall is also linked to luxury hotel, The Address Dubai Mall (featured on page 16), the ideal location for elegant dining. Alternatively experience the mesmerising Dubai Fountain, which sways rhythmically to music under the starlit sky. The Dubai Mall is also the entry point to the world’s tallest observation deck with an outdoor terrace, At the Top, Burj Khalifa (featured on page 100), offering impressive views of the city and beyond. THE NEW MASTERPIECE At Bang & Olufsen, every product we create is designed to add to your experience of sight and sound, without imposing itself on your surroundings. And BeoVision 10 is no exception. It’s the flattest flatscreen TV we’ve ever created, now available in 40” and 46” screen sizes designed to hang on your wall and discreetly blend into your decor. To achieve this, we’ve taken the already slim frame even further, by using reflective surfaces and angles so that it appears even slimmer than it actually is – almost imperceptible when viewed from the side. We also pushed the boundaries of the polished finish
with a “mirroring” effect. Add to that customised audio innovations inside, including an integrated digital surround sound module that give you sound that is anything but flat. Thereby you get more than just a state-of-the-art High-Definition television with a technical performance top in class. We didn’t stop at just a technologically advanced flatscreen television...BeoVision 10 is something so beautiful you’ll be proud to hang it on your wall along with your other artwork.

A blooming great start to the year 2010 BEGAN WELL AT THE DUBAI MALL WITH BLOOMINGDALE’S OPENING ITS FIRST BRANCH OUTSIDE OF THE US
G
oogle Bloomingdale’s and you’ll discover that New York’s luxury department store has had a long series of “firsts” during its rich 150-year history. For starters, it was the first store to invite artists to jazz up its iconic brown paper bag, prompting other stores to follow suit. Bag designs by American painter Jonah Kinigstein and Marc Jacobs are now hot collector’s items that can be found on auction on eBay. It was also the only department store that stocked YSL’s Opium perfume in 1978 despite the name’s controversy – a move that made the fragrance one of the store’s bestsellers.
Bloomingdale’s facade
12 THE DUBAI MALL MAGAZINE
However, the latest and greatest “first” for this family-owned company has to be its foray outside the US with the grand opening of two Bloomingdale’s stores at The Dubai Mall in February. True to its celebrity status, a wall showcased warm messages of congratulations from luminaries including Lanvin’s Alber Elbaz, Catherine Malandrino and Rosella Jardini of Moschino. Created by Callison Architecture Inc (the firm that designs boutiques for Dolce & Gabbana and Fendi), the luxury department store cost a whopping Dhs270m to build. The result is a three-level spectacle of gleaming glass, glittering

Notable design features include a quaint fountain in the heart of the Bloomingdale’s Home Store and a giant sunlight-drenched Atrium in the Main Store. Fashionistas will easily feel at home at this one-stop destination for couture, concierge services and cupcakes. The biggest labels are all present and accounted for with an A to Z index of brands starting with Armani and going all the way to Zanotti. Bloomingdale’s further raises the bar with services like the Concierge Desk, which allows priority customers a peek at the hottest and latest collections. There’s also At Your Service, which allows customers to sit back in a chic all-black space as Bloomingdale’s professional shoppers ensure a highly personalised experience.

Meanwhile, b_Shine salon proves that Bloomingdale’s has more than just shopping by offering first-class primping and pampering for both men and women. When it comes to treats, hungry shoppers will be spoilt for choice. Refreshments come in the form of frozen yogurt at Forty Carrots for those counting calories. For a more sugary treat, nothing satisfies a sweet tooth like the Carrie Bradshaw-approved cupcakes at Magnolia – read more about them on page 112, and then go and taste one for yourself at the first international branch of the famous New York bakery. e can hardly contain our excitement; new boutique Symphony is due to open in The Dubai Mall any day now! This luxury multibrand fashion store will bring several prolific designers to the region for the first time, including America’s Christian Siriano, catapulted to fashionfame when he won the fourth series of reality design show Project Runway. He has since cemented his status as a fashion heavyweight by acting as stylist to dramatic dressers such as Rihanna and Lady Gaga.
“Labels to be stocked include Bodyamr, Vera Wang, Jason Wu, Erin Fetherston and Rupert Sanderson” Other labels to be stocked include Bodyamr, Vera Wang, Carlos Miele, Jason Wu, Erin Fetherston and Rupert Sanderson, and a little bird tells us the designers will be collaborating with the store for the launch by providing items for the window display that represent their brand. Look out for the scuba suit from Thakoon – a nod to their techno twill diver-esque pants. Symphony, First Floor, is due to open July 2010.

Outfits in a palette of navy blue and military green offered a crash course in China’s history through Lagerfeld’s fashionably-tinted glasses. But the clothing merely served as a backdrop for accessories that stole the show. Chunky, ornate, enamel bracelets were an interpretation of antique vases, and conical straw “coolie” hats that looked surprisingly elegant in black. Tassels were a unifying element, and as a nod to China’s love for kitsch, bags were fashioned into canvas “take away” cartons and China dolls. Simply adorable. Chanel, First Floor, 04 382 7100 .

limmering in all of its 287.42-carat glory, the Tiffany Diamond is one of the largest and finest yellow diamonds in the world. Discovered in 1877 at South Africa’s Kimberley diamond mine, it was bought a year later for US$18,000 by Charles Lewis Tiffany. The purchase cemented the jeweller’s reputation as the King of Diamonds. Only two women have had the pleasure of wearing this gem. Mary Whitehouse wore a necklace set with the diamond for the 1957 Tiffany Ball and actress Audrey Hepburn wore it for publicity photographs for Breakfast at Tiffany’s.
Tiffany put the diamond up for sale once back in 1972 for the princely sum of US$5,000,000 (the equivalent of US$25,800,000 today). The advert was placed in The New York Times newspaper and the offer was valid for 24 hours, but there were no takers. The gem hasn’t been on sale since, but it has inspired the creation of other gorgeous yellow diamonds available at The Dubai Mall’s Tiffany & Co. These include rings set with oval, rectangular and emerald-cut yellow diamonds – otherwise known as fine jewellery with added sunshine. Tiffany & Co, Ground Floor, 04 339 8350.

I
t all began with a suitcase. As Paris and all its possibilities beckoned, Louis Vuitton set off from his hometown of Jura, France, in 1835. In order to finance his trip, he became a luggage maker – a skill he developed to such an extent that he gained the attentions of French President Louis-Napoléon Bonaparte, who then hired him as his personal trunk maker. Because of Vuitton’s ability to create durable, lightweight and waterproof luggage, he became a hit with royalty and the wives of wealthy businessmen. Whether it was a trunk big enough to store heavy and delicate gowns or flat-bottomed suitcases that were easy to store, Vuitton understood his clients’ needs. Such was his popularity that in order to ward off attempts to replicate his designs, he began using canvases with patterns and logos such as the red, white and blue logo seen on the original Steamer bag (pictured). The popular LV monogram was born and would soon become synonymous with luxury travel the world over. 30 THE DUBAI MALL MAGAZINE

A whiter shade of pale AS THE SUMMER SUN INTENSIFIES, NOT EVERYONE IS OUT TO GET A TAN – SEVERAL LEADING BRANDS ARE PROMOTING WHITENESS
he sun radiates three kinds of light: UVA, UVB and UVC. Of these, UVC is naturally filtered out by the earth’s ozone layer, leaving UVA and UVB rays as the most harmful to your skin. UVB causes redness and sunburn. SPF (sun protection factor) is a measure against them. If you can normally spend 10 minutes in the sun before turning red, an SPF50 cream will allow you to spend 50 times as long (500 minutes or, in other words, eight hours and 20 minutes) in the sun before burning. UVA is a stronger type of solar radiation that effects lower layers of the skin and can cause deterioration of collagen and, more worryingly, skin cancer. PA stands for the Protection Grade of a UVA System and levels range from PA+ (some protection) to PA+++ (good protection). The key ingredients that protect against UVA radiation are avobenzone, zinc oxide and titanium dioxide, and you must ensure any UVA defence you use features one of these. To battle existing brown spots, several ingredients from liquorice root to gem stones are being touted as the key to skin clarity. Here we review the very best of what’s on offer. Chanel Chanel Precision’s UV Essentiel range also boasts a Multi Protection Daily Care SPF50/PA+++ (the “essentiel” ingredient here being zinc oxide), with a complementary range that even includes makeup. The Brightening Translucent Loose Powder contains SFP15 with PA++ and lives up to the promise of “glowing and smoothing” effect by leaving skin with a pearlescent sheen. 44 THE DUBAI MALL MAGAZINE

Bulgari Famed for its precious stones, this world-famous jeweller has used its expertise in the field of gems to create its whitening range Blanc Originel. A blend of sapphire, tourmaline, citrine and amethyst, reduced to particles, work together to illuminate the complexion and combat free radicals, a precursor of melanin hyper-production. Blanc Originel Whitening Concentrate also contains sophora root and seaweed extract, a whitening ingredient. Blanc Originel Whitening Cream is boosted with kudzu symbiosome extract, which protects and repairs skin. Lancôme Lancôme’s new UV Expert GN-Shield contains titanium dioxide and comes in either SPF30 or SPF50 with PA+++. Despite its potency the cream is feather-light and breathable. Besides that, it could save your life. Bobbi Brown The queen of glowing complexions (and this month’s A-list beauty expert – see page 46) has also brought out a brightening range. In addition to an SPF50/PA+++ face base, Bobbi has packed vitamin C, caffeine and liquorice and gentian root extracts into a range of products, including the Brightening Hydrating Lotion and Moisture Cream. These active ingredients help control the production of melanin, reduce the appearance of dark spots and prevent future discolouration. All products available at beauty counters. Bobbi Brown’s makeup masterclass THE BEAUTY INDUSTRY’S BIGGEST NAME SHARES HER TRADE SECRETS
Face Touch Up Stick
Disguise pimples Concealer is designed to lighten dark under-eye circles; it is not meant for covering pimples. Since it’s one or two shades lighter than your skin tone, it will actually draw attention to your blemishes. Instead simply use foundation to cover pimples, or my Face Touch Up Stick.
Basic Brush Collection
Invest in brushes High quality makeup brushes are essential. If taken care of properly, they’ll last years. Store in a brush roll or in an upright pencil cup. Clean brushes using mild soap; wet the brush and swirl the bristles around the palm of your hand until they’re covered in soap, then rinse, squeeze out excess moisture with a clean towel and reshape the brush head. Let it dry with the bristles hanging off the edge of a counter – this way they’ll regain perfect shape.
Always choose yellow-based foundations This may surprise you, but whether you’re pale or dark, you have some yellow undertones in your complexion. A yellow-based foundation will blend beautifully whatever your skin tone. Run – don’t walk – from any foundation that looks pink or whitish. Even if you’re extremely pale, those shades can look chalky and old-fashioned. Foundation should be used to even out skin tone, not create an entirely new one, and nothing beats the warmth of fingers to blend your base. Creamy Concealer

Always smile when applying blusher Brush most of the product over the apple of the cheeks, blending towards the hairline, and then downwards to soften the edges. Women with lighter complexions should stick to pale pink, peach and corals, while women with darker skin tones look great in deeper raspberry, mocha and cranberry shades. Apply your natural colour and then add a pop of brighter colour to the apples. This layering technique adds more natural brightness. Or, for a nude look, layer up with a sweep of my Nude Shimmer Brick to give you a soft highlighting effect on the cheeks without adding a lot of colours. Pink Oyster Shimmer Brick
Eyeliner is the ultimate way to define eyes Always apply eyeliner after eye shadow, but before you curl and paint lashes. Using a gel liner, begin lining in the middle of the lash line and move to the outside corner of the eye. Gently lift the lid to get close to the eye. Then apply liner in smooth strokes all the way to the inner corner of the eye. If there’s space between your eyeliner and your lash line, you can fill in the gap with the same shade of eye shadow.

f it wasn’t for Paul Smith’s father, the famed fashion designer would probably have become a racing cyclist. “He said, there’s no money in that,” Smith explains, who instead ran errands at a clothing warehouse. It was only after being bed ridden following a serious bike accident that the 17-year-old considered fashion a viable career. Within two years, he was running his first boutique in his UK hometown, Nottingham.

Our greatest Ali? THE GROUND-BREAKING DEBUT FILM BY ALI F MOSTAFA IS SET TO PUT DUBAI ON THE FILM INDUSTRY MAP

hen Emirati director Ali F Mostafa decided to make the leap from commercials to feature-length films, it was always going to be a challenge. Yet when he decided to make his movie entirely in the UAE, and focus purely on varying cultures within Dubai, his feat was viewed as out-right impossible. Defying the odds, Mostafa took a chance and set about tackling not only ethnic barriers, but also filmmaking restrictions within the Middle East. With a budget of US$5m he created City of Life, an award-winning urban drama (it won Special Achievement Award at the recent Gulf Film Festival) tracking various interactions of a multi-lingual cast – Hindi, English and Arabic – and looking at how random encounters impact others. Despite the film’s release colliding with screenings of major blockbusters, including Clash of the Titans, the film went straight to number two in the Dubai box office. While 6,000 were expected on the opening weekend, 15,000 tickets were actually sold. Now, as the eyes of the government and investors eagerly track how the film 90 THE DUBAI MALL MAGAZINE

I come from a creative background, my father is an architect and my mother owned Blooms, one of Dubai’s oldest flower and events company. I started filming when I was nine years old, but after high school I got into interior design. I opened a division of my mum’s company called Blooms Interiors. I did that for a couple of years, saving money, until I applied to The London Film School. From there I pursued my career as a filmmaker. How did you choose the storyline for City of Life? I always wanted to write a film about Dubai, but didn’t know where to start. I decided on the Indian character after hearing about a place in Dubai where Indians, who look THE DUBAI MALL MAGAZINE 91

So, the main idea was all about this guy trying to make it as a Bollywood actor. I then added the main Emirati character, whose story involved a combination of personal experiences and fantasy. The last character, the European lady, was largely fabricated. Why was it so important to make a film based entirely in Dubai? We host many film festivals here – Dubai International Film Festival has been going for six years now – yet we don’t have enough local films at an international standard. That’s always been my goal, to make a film that puts us at a high enough level to compete in the festival. Why do you think this hasn’t been done before? Because no one has really tried. much support for young directors. However, there’s a lot more initiatives now. As the industry here grows I’m sure there’ll be a growth in film schools. How easy was it getting funding? It took a couple of years to collate. About 30 per cent of the budget was acquired through brand sponsors. The rest of the money came from a silent investor. Also Dubai Taxi Corporation helped us a lot by allowing us to use their taxis and their locations. Although they didn’t give us money, they helped save us a few hundred thousand dirhams. How will the film affect Dubai tourism? We did a test screening in England and asked people to fill out a feedback form. One of the questions was: Would you visit Dubai after watching the film? The majority said they would. I think it’s because Dubai comes

While the up-and-coming actress appears to be coping well with success – making fast friends with the likes of Warren Beatty, appearing on the Letterman Show and so on – it’s only the constant comparisons to icon Audrey Hepburn that seem to make her falter. “It’s flattering,” she says, “but a little freaky. It’s Audrey Hepburn! She’s, like, a goddess. And she didn’t have Shrek cheeks and a wonky mouth.” Modesty, it seems, forms a large dose of Mulligan’s charm.

Eastern man. The sheikh asked if we could make a modern Private Blend fragrance out of it – something that would be an homage to the original oil, yet be really wearable today. From this starting point we developed Arabian Wood, which is a modern reinvention of a classic Middle Eastern scent.
Do you have a favourite place in the Middle East? I’ve been to Dubai and Kuwait, but I really haven’t travelled enough to know the region well. With Tom Ford stores in both of these locations now, as well as Qatar, I look forward to discovering a lot more.
Do any other of the Private Blend scents have a Middle Eastern inspiration? Private Blend Oud Wood is constructed around the rich, dark resin from the agarwood tree, which has always been a prized ingredient in Arabian fragrance. It’s one of the most precious ingredients in perfumery.
What was the inspiration for your Private Blend scent, Arabian Wood? Private Blend Arabian Wood was born out of an unexpected gift from a Sheikh in Kuwait who gave me a collection of traditional Arabian essential oils. Which scent do you find most synonymous with the Middle East? For me, it’s a sublime jasmine. My good friend Princess Firyal of Jordan gave me a gorgeous jasmine fragrance in a little roller bottle. In order to build the world’s tallest building, esteemed designers were required, and after a tough competition the honour was awarded to the Chicago office of Skidmore, Owings & Merrill, with Adrian Smith as consulting design partner. Award-wining designer Nada Andric is responsible for the interior, which brings a contemporary twist to cultural heritage – glass and stainless steel features are offset by traditional touches. The external structure of Burj Khalifa pushes the frontiers of engineering. Taking inspiration from the desert flower hymenocallis, incorporates the traditional intricacies of Islamic design. The blooming Burj is divided into three “petals” arranged around a central core. As the tower rises, an upward-spiralling pattern creates a bird’s-eye image of petals. Due to the desert terrain and climate, and also the sheer size of the project, never-before-used technology was employed to complete the structure. High-performance cladding – more than 25,000 panels in total –cover the structure to withstand Dubai’s harsh temperatures. The effect? A shimmering

exterior that minimises heat transmission and saves energy. “We’ve broken fresh ground,” says Project Director of the tower Greg Sang, “not only in terms of height, but at the all-important structural level.” Around the building’s floral “footprint”, a public walkway connects Burj Khalifa to The Dubai Mall, making this architectural gem a haven for shoppers. Burj Khalifa residents can also enjoy access to fitness centres with Jacuzzis, a library, a gourmet market and an 11-hectare park with stunning water features. An icon leads the way Soaring through the cityscape, Burj Khalifa is a powerful emblem of the new and dynamic Middle East. More than a building, Burj Khalifa is the result of a vision that became reality. This towering tour de force and shining beacon of modern architecture represents how far Dubai has advanced in recent years, proving the city’s success is not based on oil reserves like its neighbours, but the reserves of human talent, ingenuity and initiative.

ight down to the Alain Saint-Joanis cutlery, every detail in the creation of Ember has been well considered. The result? An oasis amid a shopping haven, situated within the recently opened Address Dubai Mall hotel. Between the pale, exposed brick walls, leather booths scattered with silk cushions welcome diners into an arena of calming, earthy hues with olive accents and billowing floor-to-ceiling drapes. The name Ember references cooking techniques employed at the restaurant, which features dishes made on a traditional Japanese grill, or robata, using binchotan, a superior white charcoal from Japan that doesn’t emit smoke. A starter of jumbo prawns, with kimchi (pickled vegetables) and green onion
pancake makes a delicious example of the robata’s abilities. For mains, the selection ranges from new world seafood, including scallops with cauliflower, grapefruit and cress, to rotisserie-cooked meats and premium steaks, including wagyu, arguably the finest beef in the world produced from mollycoddled, massaged Japanese cows. The international menu then takes in Britain with a sorbet and cheesecake crumble known as Granny Smith, and a pineapple and coconut concoction smacks of the Caribbean, but fans of the famous Viennese Sasha Torte must try the chocolate, mango and caramel dessert. This tantalising take on Vienna’s most famous cake is worth saving room for. Ember, The Address Dubai Mall, 04 438 8170.

From fancy cars to the latest must-have technology, this is one family that has it all. Or so it seems. Produced and directed by Derrick Borte, The Joneses is a witty take on society’s consumerist attitude.
The A-Team American soldiers of fortune, Hannibal, Face, Mad Murdoch and BA Baracus return to the screen in this summer’s highly anticipated movie adaptation of the cult eighties show. While it hardly varies from the TV series – a group of war veterans on a mission to clear their name with the US military after being framed for a crime they didn’t commit – the war has moved from Vietnam to Iraq, adding a topical slant. Otherwise the wise cracks and escapades are very much in the same entertaining vein.

However, when the vindictive plan backfires raw emotions are roused and a series of consequential events put the family’s life in danger.

ntroducing the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Gullwing, the new supercar which debuted in the UAE this spring. AMG, the performance arm of the German deluxe manufacturer, has raided its archive of iconic designs for this charismatic launch paying homage to the original SL Gullwing of 1954. Just like its predecessor, the new model features wing-style doors. The wings of the original design weren’t intentional, however. They came about as the racing car needed points of entry, as stipulated by the rules of the time, but the framework
didn’t allow for traditional doors and so they were hinged onto the roof, creating the car’s most distinctive feature. Described by Mercedes Head of Design, Gorden Wagener, as the ‘classic of tomorrow’, the new Gullwing combines dynamic styling with advanced technology. Its lightweight, yet strong aluminium body is low-slung with a sporty bonnet almost two metres long. Other exterior hallmarks are its Mercedes star, and wing-shaped cross fins – throwbacks to the original. Gargash Motors, www.gargash.mercedes-benz.com.

ecker Island, Sir Richard Branson’s private 74-acre paradise in the British Virgin Islands, may never have come to public attention had a war photographer not opted to be stranded there as part of a survival test in the 1960s. Thankfully for the discerning traveller, he did.
After hearing about the island, Branson bought the secluded sanctuary when he was just 24 years old, six years after launching Virgin Records. With not much capital to spare, the gorgeous atoll enclosed by azure waters remained bare, but for its lush greenery and exotic wildlife. It wasn’t until Janet Jackson had a hit record for

tatuesque and with oozing style, the Milan cityscape is just as mesmerising as the models that amble through its fashionable streets. While it may not have the grand history of Rome or the romance of Venice, it does have a charm that rarely disappoints, and Corso Vittorio Emmanuele – Milan’s modish haven – is not only where the world’s bold and beautiful congregate, but where the buzz of the city begins. The birthplace of Prada, Armani and Missoni, Milan is a vibrant destination, and this month couldn’t be a better time to visit because between June 5-13, the city hosts its popular Food Week allowing you to taste its culture through local delicacies, drinks and film. attractions, it’s the rather more traditional characteristics that truly make a journey there worthwhile. Shopping A haute couture capital, Milan is refined and stylish, and Piazza Duomo, with its extravagant glass-roofed mall Galleria Vittorio Emmanuele, is where it starts. Resembling a medieval palace, the Galleria is allegedly the world’s first shopping mall – if anyone was going to get there first it was going to be the chic Italians. Its designer Giuseppe Mengoni fell to his death from its roof just 148 THE DUBAI MALL MAGAZINE
before the opening ceremony in 1865. Today the mall and all its beauty is worthy of Mengoni’s pride. Inside designer stores abound, along with the odd fast food joint. However, even McDonald’s trademark red and yellow frontage has had a fashionable makeover – like all the shops in the mall its signage is glossy and black with gold lettering. Only in Milan can a McDonald’s exude sophistication. One store you shouldn’t leave Milan without visiting is D Magazine on Via Montenapoleone. Here you can snap up designer labels at half price, which translates as twice the shopping to us!

Sights Proving that behind the glitz, glamour and sharp suits lies a historical Milan yearning to be explored, the 624-year-old Duomo, the fourth largest in the world, remains a breathtaking model. Colossal and charismatic, even the millions of pigeons that invade its square can’t taint its beauty or disguise the opulence of its 135 gothic spires. The interior is brilliantly lit by stained glass windows highlighting the stonewalls adorned with images of St Charles Borromeo, one of the early cardinals of Milan. Venture deep into the bowels of the Duomo to visit his crypt.
Although perpetually filled with tourists, Duomo’s ambience is serene. Poet Shelley used to sit here and read Dante, while Lord Tennyson would climb to the roof and rhapsodise about the views of the Alps. Today, take an elevator to the top and enjoy Milan in all of its glory. For culture aficionados renaissance art can be found in Pinacoteca Ambrosiana in Piazza Pio XI, and Galleria Monica De Cardenas on Via Viganoi, yet it’s at the refectory of the Convento di Santa Maria delle Grazie that you’ll find one the world’s most beautiful relics: Leonardo da Vinci’s The Last Supper. NEW YORK’S DESIGN DYNAMO TALKS ABOUT DRESSING, DESIGNER FRAGRANCE AND HER FIRST VISIT TO DUBAI I visited Dubai for the first time last year and just loved it. What a fascinating, almost futuristic place. It’s an atmosphere that inspires and captivates the imagination. As a creative person, I can’t help but be in awe of it. The Middle East is multi-dimensional and I’ve been slowly exploring it country by country. I’m intrigued by cultures other than my own, and always discover that however different we seem at first, we have so much more that’s similar. Our differences attract us, but the similarities unite us. Yoga has given me the balance and calm I need in the fast-paced fashion world I live in. It gives me that quiet, peaceful space where my mind, body and soul can come together as one. Yoga is also a great workout, rejuvenating and restoring energy like no other exercise I’ve ever done. 162 THE DUBAI MALL MAGAZINE
Accessories are incredibly personal, especially jewellery. I tend to go for one bold piece, whether it’s the splash of a textured coloured scarf or a defining element like the metal pearls Robert Lee Morris created for our Autumn/ Winter collection. I prefer my fragrance in body lotion form – it’s sensual and moisturises the skin. Inspirations for my fragrances are usually found in nature – I become passionate about a certain spice or foliage. My late husband Stephan [Weiss] taught me the importance of how a bottle feels – it has to sensually appeal to the woman. That matters more than anything to me. A bottle is a sculpture you live with and use. Donna Karan’s new fragrance DKNY Delicious Candy Apples Ripe Raspberry is available in a limited-edition bottle at Areej, Ground Floor, 04 339 8568.
