From a cabin crew member travelling the world to heading the marketing and sales at Bahrain’s Four-Star Hotel, Gulf Suites Hotel, Amwaj, Salman Al Lulu has contributed to the development of different brands on the island. With a passion for food and hospitality, he spends much of his time designing services that cater to the needs of guests. We got his take on the hotel industry in Bahrain and the growth of the restaurants at the Amwaj property.

In your opinion, what makes a restaurant special?

An experience which takes you on a journey of culture, food, ambience, and good service makes a restaurant special.

How do you ensure your restaurants always meet the highest standards of quality?

At our restaurants, we believe that fresh food is the cornerstone of a quality dining experience. Additionally, we place a strong emphasis on consistency in both quality and service. Finally, it's also about how our guests feel when they walk through our doors. That's why we prioritize customer service at all times.

What are your thoughts on Bahrain’s restaurant sector?

The mix of culture and different cuisines available in Bahrain takes its F&B offerings to the next level. The island has incredibly managed to cater for every segment of society. People who own restaurants understand what the public demands are even as there are new trends to watch day by day.

What are three dishes you would recommend guests try at your restaurant?

If you’re looking for an appetiser, I would recommend the Pizzafreshly baked crust with homemade sauce and a combination of herbs and spices of your own choice. For the main course, Lamb Chops cooked on a slow flame with garlic butter is a must-try. Finally, the Chicken Machboos, a local favourite, with flavours of Middle Eastern cuisine, long grain Basmati rice cooked with fresh ingredients has to be on your list.

What are your favourite places to eat in Bahrain?

My favourite dining spots on the island are Maki, David's Stir Fry Crazy, and Bushido by Buddha-Bar.

If you were allowed to keep just one ingredient from your kitchen with you, what would it be?

Cilantro! n
