Welcome! On behalf of our entire board of Stewards for the Arabian Racing Cup, I welcome you to our 32nd annual celebration for the best in Arabian Horse Racing in the USA. Our opening tagline “Experience the Darleys Like Never Before” aptly composes our optimism as this esteemed event, renowned for its prestige throughout the Arabian horse world, transitions from Hollywood and settles into its new home, the St. Regis Houston hotel in Houston, Texas. We are pleased with how perfectly the stage is set for Arabian racing’s best achievers vying for the industry’s most significant honor— to be named a Darley Champion. Founded in 1983 by Dr. Sam Harrison, the Arabian Racing Cup is America's oldest national Arabian racing organization. The Darley Awards ceremony and gala banquet are traditions that have become the benchmark of Arabian racing. During its 32-year history, the Darley Awards have recognized nearly 1,500 nominees, with 319 Darley Champions named in 11 categories, including 31 horses crowned Darley Horse of the Year. The prestige of the Darley Awards is due largely to its history of integrity. As part of an arduous and precise selection process each year, the 29-member Darley Award Voting Academy is presented with an extensive array of performance comparison statistics for each nominee. The voters include Stewards of the Arabian Racing Cup, appointments from state-affiliate racing organizations, the Arabian Jockey Club and a racing media panel. Like the Thoroughbred’s Eclipse Awards, the final determination of the Champions is based on decisions private to each voter. Each person’s interpretations of the statistics may be based on private opinion regarding importance of a myriad of factors... the Champions are not determined based on simple earnings, and there’s always much excitement about the awards. Until the night of the Darley ceremony, results are kept secret to all but the voting manager, event manager, and the acclaimed artist, Karen Kasper, who has provided the Darley Award trophies since inception. Tonight we join together in celebrating the best of 2018 as we reveal 11 new Darley Champions who will join the famed ranks in history as the best in our industry. We invite you to sit back and enjoy the dinner and presentations, and hope you’ll also take advantage of the opportunities in our annual Darley Silent Auction and Stallion Auction later this evening.
