In 2023, we participated in the Last Nuclear Bomb Memorial Competition, representing SCMS College of Architecture as a team of four: Elizabeth Teresa Antony, Ninvin Chackalackal, Pranav, and Aravind. Under the mentorship of Vinayak Menon, we developed a project embodying the themes of contemplation and hope. Our design concept revolved around creating a physical and emotional journey that begins with the curiosity evoked by a bomb crater, which conceals its interior from view. As visitors proceed, they traverse a tunnel that culminates in a glass cantilever platform, simulating the fear and depth reminiscent of a bomb blast. However, at the center of the crater, a growing tree symbolizes hope and the promise of new life, offering a powerful contrast to the surrounding intensity and serving as a beacon of positivity and renewal.
