Soil Care - Soil Testing Hanna® Combo Meter Kit

LaMotte Garden Guide Soil Test Kit

Get All The Data You Need With Just One Kit! Target: For gardeners, farmers and growers who want the convenience of 1 tool. Convenient to use and waterproof for long-life. Description: The HANNA High Range Combo is a multi-use instrument that can be used to measure soil pH, EC/TDS and temperature. Both pH and EC/TDS measurements will help to distinguish the amount of nutrients available to plants, if nutrients will burn plants, if salinity needs correction or if additional nutrients are needed. Suggested Use: Use in greenhouses, aquaponics, gardens, farms – anywhere you grow - to collect essential data that can help you improve yields. Intro To Fertility Arbico Organics™ has created this chart in order to help you select the specific products that fit your needs. Healthy soil is the backbone of a strong and productive garden and we want to make sure that it is as economical as possible for you. The chart includes macronutrients, the most frequently deficient micronutrients, soil amendments, biostimulants, and humic acid products. We have chosen to include the humates and bio-stimulants in order to stimulate and promote bio-availability of nutrients and improve soil health and structure in all soil types. Simply adding fertilizer is not always the solution to a deficiency. When plants are unable to absorb the nutrients necessary, using beneficial microbes and mycorrhizal fungi can break them down and make them more readily available to your plants. N-P-K are the essential macronutrients for all plant growth and each serves an extremely important purpose • Nitrogen (N) is used for promoting vegetative

growth, when plants contain ample nitrogen leaves are able to photosynthesize at very high rates. • Phosphorus (P) is needed for root, seed, flower, and fruit production and development. Plentiful phosphorus stimulates bigger, tastier fruit growth. • Potassium (K) is essential for water and nutrient movement throughout plants; when optimal potassium is available, plant health peaks and the plant is protected against pests and pathogens. We have chosen to highlight the most commonly deficient micronutrients. Each serves a very important purpose in plant production and although not every micronutrient is shown here, please contact us if you are having a deficiency not listed. Calcium, Iron, Magnesium, and Zinc are usually the first deficiencies to show and can be solved by using the products in the chart. • Calcium (Ca) promotes cell structure and helps protect the plant from outside stresses. Prevent heat stress, protect against pathogens and prevent bottom end rot.

Add This Amendment

• Iron (Fe) promotes chlorophyll production (by moving oxygen throughout the plant) while preventing chlorosis in the leaves . Iron readily combines with most micronutrients in order to provide optimal nutrition. • Magnesium (Mg) is the building block of chlorophyll. Available magnesium allows photosynthesis to occur and leaves to look green. Without Mg, plants cannot capture sunlight and therefor will not survive. • Zinc (Zn) promotes protein and amino acid productions. Directly link to iron and magnesium, Zinc is another important aspect in chlorophyll production. Zinc is also thought to boost pollen production Why are there shipping restrictions on some products? Fertilizers and soil amendments listing an N-P-K must be registered in every state they are shipped to. Not all companies are willing to do file these registration and this limits our shipping ability. We try our very best to ensure that every state has options and we take great pride in the variety of options we offer. If you still can’t find what you need, please call us and we will work hard to find the perfect match.

During active growing, these waxy compounds will allow substances to permeate into the leaf. When correctly applied to growing foliage, absorption of the calcium occurs because the waxy compound in the formula mimics those naturally occurring on leaf surfaces. Once permeated, calcium spreads through the plant, promoting growth. Suggested Use: Use 1 tsp./gal. of water. Apply to the entire plant with droplets remaining for approximately 10 minutes. Apply according to crop specific instructions included and when temperatures are warm (approximately 77°F or higher). Spray up to 2 weeks before harvest to improve storage life. Wait about 24 hours after application to apply fertilizers. The 8 oz. container will dilute to a total of 40 gallons, covering about 0.4-1 acre. "Prepare 5 gallon bucket of Arbico Organics™ Compost Tea Bag, let brew for up to 48 hours. Set aside. Find borer holes on tree trunk. Create a paste of Diatomaceous Earth and water and fill as many holes with paste as you are able to spot. Using the soil probe, prepare the soil by creating 2-3 ft. holes around the base of the tree (probe in between roots to create channels for the compost tea to diffuse through) Once holes are plugged and the tea is brewed, drench the root zone with the Compost tea. We recommend at least 2.5 gallons of tea per tree. Repeat process on all infected trees. By applying this method 2-3 times per year you’re not only breathing life into the soil and plants, by increasing health you are increasing plant vigor." - Dr. Buglady

Scale On Your Plants?

“Scale insects have round, oval hard shells approx. 1/16-1/8 inch (2-4 mm) in diameter and are either armored or soft. Armored scale have a plate-like shell, and do not excrete honeydew that can cause black mold and ants. Immature scale are called crawlers, shellless and generally invisible. They seek foliage (stems/ leaves/fruit) to feed upon; sucking plant juices. Scale reach maturity when a shell develops. They remain affixed to foliage until the next generation of crawlers are born.” -Dr. Buglady

Pest Control - Beneficial Nematodes HOW DO I APPLY NEMATODES?

WHAT ARE BENEFICIAL NEMATODES? Beneficial Nematodes are live, microscopic organisms (non-segmented roundworms) that occur naturally in soil throughout the world. They are parasitic to insect pests that typically have a developing (larval or pupal) stage of life in the soil; however, they have been known to also parasitize above ground stages of adults, nymphs and larvae.

HOW DO BENEFICIAL NEMATODES WORK?

1. Mix Ready-To-Use Beneficial Nematodes with water. 2. Apply pre-dawn or at dusk with hoseend sprayer, backpack sprayer, pump sprayer or watering can. 3. Keep area moist at least 2 weeks.

For Treatment:

1.

2.

Apply every 2 weeks until pest infestation subsides.

3.

For Prevention:

Antoinette Malan @ Stellenbosch University, South Africa.

1. Beneficial Nematodes are applied to soil where they locate pests, enter through orifices or body walls and infect pests with toxic bacteria. 2. The bacteria kills pests within 24 to 48 hours. Beneficial Nematodes then feed on bacteria and host insect tissue. Adult stages of Beneficial Nematodes produce hundreds of thousands of new juveniles.

Apply in the Spring, Summer and Fall (2-3 times per year).

Applying Beneficial Nematodes with a hose-end sprayer.

Chameleon Adaptable Hose End Sprayer

3. New infective juveniles emerge loaded with “pest killer” bacteria and begin their search for a new host.

Perfect Application!

Pest Insect Control Japanese Beetle Control Where Are Japanese Beetles Found?

As the name suggests Japanese Beetles are native to Japan. They were first found in the United States in 1916 in New Jersey and it is believed they arrived before inspections of commodities entering the country were required. Since then, they have spread to many states in the United States including: AK, AL, CO, CT, FL, GA, IA, IL, KS, KY, ME, MI, MN, MO, MS, MT, NC, ND, NJ, NY, OH, OK, PA, RI, SC, SD, TN, UT, VA, VT, WI, WV. If you are unsure if Japanese Beetles have invaded your county, please contact your County Extension Agent to find out.

Milky Spore Powder Specific, Long Lasting Larval Control. Target: Japanese Beetle Grubs. Description: Contains Bacillus popillae bacterium, lethal to soil-borne grub stages of Japanese beetles. Grubs that normally feed on roots of grass and vegetables will ingest the bacterium which will cause death in about 1-3 weeks. Grubs decompose and re-release bacteria spores. The spores can remain in the soil for about ten years, and in some cases up to 20 years. In warmer climates, control can occur in 1-3 years (after one application) and in cooler climates, 3-5 years. Can apply with other fertilizers, will not harm animals and can be applied to food crops. For best results, apply with NemaSeek, which will aid in spreading the bacterium to grubs. Store in a cool dry place to maintain shelf life. Photo Credit: UNL Entomology Department.

Protect Your Spring Growth Now!

M

any gardeners and homeowners consider the Japanese Beetle to be one of the most serious pests they face. These pests not only cause devastating root damage (particularly to lawns) in their grub phase, but also attract various critters that will dig up your lawn searching for the grubs to eat. The adult beetles can defoliate plants faster than you can say Popillia japonica.

Suggested Use: Use All-Purpose Dispenser Tube for easy application. White chalk carries the bacterium, and the resultant treated area should resemble a checkerboard. Water within about 48 hours for about 15-20 minutes to permeate into soil and do not mow or rake until thoroughly soaked. Apply about 1 tsp., every 4 ft., in rows 4 ft. apart. 10 oz. covers ≈ 2,500 ft², 40 oz. covers ≈ ¼ acre, 50 lbs. covers ≈ 4.5 acres. This product cannot be shipped to the following states: OR, WA

Timing Beneficial Nematode & Milky Spore Applications Application of beneficial nematodes and Milky Spore in spring and then again in late summer/early autumn can help us contain Japanese beetle infestations. How does this work? Japanese Beetles spend most of the year living in the soil as larvae – what we commonly call grubs. It’s important to time applications of beneficial nematodes and Milky Spore with their spring and autumn journey through the top layers of soil. After a long winter underground, the grubs will begin to move to the top layers of soil in preparation to their emergence as adult beetles. Before they pupate into adult beetles is an excellent time to make the first beneficial nematode application of the year. It is safe to apply beneficial nematodes once the soil has reached consistent temperatures of 42°F.

46

Immediately upon emergence in the spring or early summer, adult beetles will begin to lay eggs. They are highly mobile and don’t discriminate where they lay eggs – soil is soil. By August and through September the eggs will have hatched and are in their early larvae – or grub - stage. They will begin eating the roots of your plants. This underground stage as grubs makes August and September an excellent time to apply nematodes and Milky Spore. Remember to use the Heterorhabditis bacteriophora (Hb) beneficial nematode for attacking the Japanese beetle! Apply the Milky Spore first and use the application of the nematodes to help spread the Milky Spore more efficiently.

Grasshopper Control Semaspore & Nolo Baits - Grasshopper Control Stop Grasshopper & Crickets From Ruining Your Garden & Crops! Target: Grasshoppers, Mole Crickets, Mormon and Black Field Crickets. Description: Semaspore and Nolo Bait contain Nosema locustae, a naturally occurring single celled protozoan that infects all stages of developing grasshoppers, mole crickets, Mormon and black field crickets. The Nosema locustae is coated on wheat bran, which is attractive to pests. When ingested it creates a disease that is specific to these pests, they become sick, eat less, and begin to die. The disease is spread to other grasshoppers via cannibalism. Expect that within 2 to 4 weeks, 50% of the population will be dead and most survivors will be infected. Infected pests will consume less and lay fewer eggs. This product works best when the pests are ½” to 3/4” in length. Shelf Life: Check label and refrigerate to extend shelf life.

Suggested Use: Apply in swaths as a barrier about 1 ft. wide or broadcast in and around infested areas or areas that you wish to protect. Note that grasshoppers typically lay eggs in southern exposures on hilly, sandy soil. Pay careful attention to applying in these areas. Nolo Suggested Use: Apply by hand, by shaker can or spreader to lawn/garden. Include a buffer zone around area to be treated. For Crop & Rangeland: apply with seed spreader. Use 5 tsp. per 100 sq.ft. Molt-X™

Target: Caterpillars, thrips, coddling moths, leafminers, borers, fruit flies, Japanese Beetles, fungus gnats and more.

Molt-X is an Excellent Knockdown Spray With Multiple Modes of Insecticidal Action!

Description: Contains Spinosad, derived through fermentation of a naturally-occurring soil bacterium. Spinosad works on the insect’s nervous system, causing paralysis and then death in 1-2 days. Since the insects are paralyzed, they may stay on the plants and be mistaken for live insects; always check for Spinosad’s effect 2-3 days after spraying to evaluate control in the insect population.

Weed Control Pre-Emergent Weed Control Orland’s Safe-T-Weed Corn Gluten Pre-Emergent Herbicide That’s Great For Lawns & Gardens! Target: It is effective against most common lawn and garden weeds. Use in your lawn, garden or fields before weeds sprout. Description: Orland’s Safe-T-Weed is a preemergent natural corn gluten herbicide that kills the tiny feeder roots of sprouting seeds. It does not harm established plants or vegetable and flower sprouts that have true leaves. While it controls sprouting weed seeds, it does NOT control established perennial weeds such as dandelions. The EPA found Orland’s Safe-TWeed so friendly to the environment that it is exempted from EPA herbicide regulations. Used as directed, children or pets can play on treated areas immediately after application and it will not harm beneficial insects, soil organisms or pond or stream life. In addition, its high nitrogen content (9-0-0) works to green up your lawn. Suggested Use: Safe-T-Weed is easy to spread using a can or cup for small areas. Use a spreader for lawns. One pound treats 50 square feet of flowerbed, garden or lawn. 1226803 25 lbs. Bag (27 lbs.) $35.00 1226802 2+ 25 lbs. Bags (53 lbs. ea.) $65.50 1226801 1 Ton - 50 lbs. Description: These hardworking ambush predators are an excellent addition to any growing area, large or small. With an approximate two-month lifespan, these generalist predators will live, eat and reproduce in the area of release. Zelus start eating immediately after hatching, and by the second instar they produce a resin on their legs, which turns them into a walking sticky trap. Once captured, their prey is pierced with their rostrum and a digestive enzyme is injected into the prey and the insect is quickly killed. This method of predation allows for Zelus to take out prey much larger than themselves. These generalist predators are voracious and can be used efficiently in gardens, fields, orchards and greenhouses.

Fly Pupae Control Who Uses Fly Eliminators™? Our customers are all types of horse owners, from the single horse owner to large breeder, including racetracks and farms with many types of animals. TM

Stop Flies Before They’re a Problem!

What Are Fly Eliminators™? Fly Eliminators™ are tiny (approximately 1/8”) beneficial insects that parasitize flies in their developing pupal (cocoon) stage. Scientifically they are referred to as Fly Parasites or Fly Parasitoids.

• Boarding Facilities • Feed Lots • Equestrian Hobbyists • Dairy Facilities • Race Tracks • Urban Farmers • Stables • Poultry • Zoos • Aquariums • Kennels • Plus more

Testimonials Race Tracks Churchill Downs

Adult Fly Eliminator emerging from fly pupa.

How Do Fly Eliminators™ Work? Adult female flies lay their eggs in decaying organic matter, especially manure. Only a few hours later, these eggs develop into microscopic larvae (maggot stage) and burrow down into the manure. The maggots grow until they form a cocoon (pupal stage). Then, the female Fly Eliminators™ seek out the fly pupae and begin to deposit their eggs inside. The eggs grow into larvae that feed on the developing fly, stopping the adult pest fly from hatching. Fly Eliminators™ reproduce in about 21 days, constantly strengthening the Fly Eliminator™ population. Pest flies reproduce at a faster rate than our Fly Eliminators, so they must be replenished on a regular basis, approx. 2 – 4 weeks.

How Do I Use Fly Eliminators™?

“We started using Fly Eliminators™ back in 1983. We are still using them today. It’s a wonderful product and a successful program that everyone should use! All the big corporations are going green and we were one of the first to go green by using Fly Eliminators™. Of all the programs we have had in place and through management changes over the years, this is the one program you don’t want to mess with. Trust me!” Butch Lehr, Track Manager of Churchill Downs

Del Mar Thoroughbred Club “The Del Mar Thoroughbred Club horse racing facility in San Diego County has been using parasitized fly pupae biological fly control from ARBICO™ since 1985 with great success. Each summer nearly 2,000 horses and hundreds of thousands of race goers converge on this community to live, eat and play making fly control a top priority for both the Del Mar Thoroughbred Club and the Community that relies so heavily upon the agricultural product we promote. We appreciate the years of timely and professional service Rick Frey and his staff provided and look forward to many more good years ahead.”

You will receive a plastic bag which contains parasitized fly pupae in wood shavings. 1. When your Fly Eliminators™ arrive, check for any signs of hatching.

Philadelphia Park “I was introduced to Fly Eliminators™ 30 years ago at a Racetrack Symposium and have been using them ever since. They’ve done a fabulous job and I have recommended Fly Eliminators™ to many people! They’re a great product! Your program was green before green was popular. Without a doubt, this is the way to go! Arbico is a very good company!

2. Once a few have hatched, sprinkle small handfuls around your property into those dirty flies' favorite breeding areas: manure piles; under water troughs; under bedding; corners of pens and feeding sites. 3. Cover with dirt or manure to protect your Fly Eliminators™. They will start to burrow down and search for fly pupae to lay their young in.

Joe Harper, Chief Executive Officer of Del Mar

Roy Smith, Track Manager of Philadelphia Park Fly Eliminators™ and wood shavings in packaging.

4. Repeat every 2-4 weeks.
