Arcadia Contemporary is proud to present “Countenance,” an exploratory exhibition showcasing a new series of eight works by Annie Murphy-Robinson. The exhibition opens on May 23, 2024, and runs until June 11, 2024. Annie Murphy-Robinson, known for her hyper-realistic charcoal drawings, continues to delve into the themes of trauma, truth, and the power of memory. Each original drawing is a testament to her meticulous, award-winning technique. The exhibition’s title, “Countenance,” reflects the intense focus on the expressions and subtleties captured in the portraits of her daughter, who is the primary subject for this series.

Drawing upon her personal experiences, Murphy-Robinson’s work invites viewers into a contemplative space where she distorts the line between reality and memory. “In this new body of work, I aim to maintain an active and exploratory dialogue between the subject and the viewer,” says Murphy-Robinson. “The subtle shifts in gaze and posture invite continuous reinterpretation, echoing the fluid nature of memories themselves.”

“Countenance” by Annie Murphy-Robinson will be on view from May 23 to June 11, 2024. On May 23rd, 2024, from 6-8 PM, Arcadia Contemporary will host an opening reception. The artist will be in attendance and the event is open to the public.

Annie Murphy-Robinson was born in 1972 in Heron, Montana. She holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Southwestern Louisiana, obtained in 1994. The artist furthered her education at California State University, Sacramento, where she earned a Master of Arts in 2002.
