ROMINA RESSIA “Fish Archival Pigment Print, 2015 23 x 35 inches ed. 1 of 5

ROMINA RESSIA Presented here is the work of Argentinian, avant-garde fashion photographer Romina Ressia (b.1981). Making her foray into fine art photography, Ressia has become an internet sensation. Her work marries Elizabethan-era subjects and Renaissance sensibilities with modern anachronisms, playfully collapsing time to document an imagined past. This body of portraiture playfully raises questions about the roles of women in history and also the present day. What was life like for women in the Renaissance? What impact would modern conveniences have had in their lives? Can the viewer imagine conflating a modern life with this bygone past?

ALESSANDRA MARIA “Moirai” Oil, Graphite, and Gold on Panel, 2015 22 x 28 inches

ALESSANDRA MARIA The signature works of Alessandra Maria (b. 1990) combine ethereal drawings of female subjects with a lace-like overlay of gilded decoration which are flattened, like icons, into a field of gold. This emerging artist, currently working in Brooklyn, New York, represents the show’s youngest talent. Her dream-like subjects reside in a fantastic world, both fragile and equisite.

DIANNE GALL “Violet Blonde” Oil on Panel, 2014 7 × 9 inches

DIANNE GALL Painter Dianne Gall (b. 1964) from Australia makes her Arcadia debut with cinematic oil paintings featuring femme fatales of a bygone era. Eschewing the expected black and white palette of 1940’s cinema, Gall immerses her heroines and scenes in acid-dipped colors more indicative of the 1960’s Pop era. Sited in domestic interiors, the tight compositions of these paintings underscore their intimacy. With their backs turned and their faces hidden, the strong women subjects of Dianne Gall’s work assert their strength to the viewer.

DEON DUNCAN “Clarity (details) Bronze and Gold Leaf, 2015 32 x 12 x 8 inches ed. 3 of 9

DEON DUNCAN Deon Duncan (b. 1963) presents bronze sculptures depicting swimmers athletically poised; their tensed musculatures are accented with gold and blue hues. Educated in painting and critical theory with a graduate degree from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago, Duncan turned to sculpture later in her career. In the tradition of classical sculpture, her works investigate the body and ideal beauty. Here, her athletes demonstrate a rigorous study of human anatomy and a fluency of sculptural techniques, cast and gilded.

NANCY DEPEW “An Embarrasment of Riches #2” Oil on Panel, 2013 12 x 9 in

NANCY DEPEW Nancy Depew (b. 1965), whose large-scale nudes and florals are masterworks of hyper-realism, paradoxically imbues her works with a dreamlike otherworldliness. These atmospheric works depict flora and female figures in repose as if frozen in a moment in time. Masterfully rendered, Depew’s gossamer-like surfaces demonstrate a keen attention to detail, utilized to subtle and graceful effect.
