Henderson creates hyper-realistic images -- simple, intimate snapshots of everyday life with photographic precision and detail; fabrics seem to especially intrigue her. But Henderson’s work is no mere novelty. Her singular vision elevates the effect from parlor trick to true art.

Using sandpaper as a medium to embed dry material into heavy paper, she’s able to “see in the dark” of her large-scale drawings. The use of this technique takes the work to a “hyper-real” level and lends itself well to the pervasive feeling of melancholy that exists.

Brian Tull - (United States - b. 1975) Tull gravitates towards photorealism because it allows the viewer to notice things they wouldn’t in real time, especially with his detailed, large-scale works. Photorealism is a well-suited vehicle for capturing moments that occur with little notice, but are nonetheless revealing in their narrative. His painting process forces him to look beyond the subject matter; to let a face be a series of objects, or an object simply a block of color.
