SELECTED PROJECTS 2011-2014

ANA RITA CANEIRA 13.08.1990 PORTUGUESE I live and grew up in the village of Sintra, but Lisbon is where I mostly spend my daily life. Since I was a child, probably influenced by the direct contact with the family business, I’ve had an increasing curiosity for materials and how they are employed in our life. In parallel I always felt spontaneously connected with plastic and artistic areas, emerging naturally a continuous path in these studies. The architectural passion grows up and it is a present reality even in the smallest moments of my quotidian, searching for the detail and spatial atmosphere. Recently, I finished the Master’s Degree in Architecture with a final project and theoretical thesis: ‘Memory of history in rehabilitation - The Meaning of Place in Casal do Rebolo’. The semester that I lived in Bern, Switzerland, stimulated the desire to understand other realities and live new experiences. See what I read and learn from what I live. Beyond the architectural academic life I also participate in workshops, seminars, lectures or others smalls initiatives, even in different areas, that add personal knowledge and complement myself. In the future I’m looking to start a new learning process in professional and real life.

MEMORY OF HISTORY IN REHABILITION

INTERPRETATIVE CENTER - HISTORICAL AND ARCHAEOLOGICAL REMAINS OF A VENECULAR ARCHITECTURE, SALOIA REGION FINAL MASTER THESIS PROJECT | REHABILITATION AND NEW CONSTRUCTION ACADEMIC PROJECT |CASAL DO REBOLO, SINTRA. 2014 MAIN ADVISOR: PROF. ARCH. JOSÉ AGUIAR | CO-ADVISOR: PROF. ARCH. PEDRO ABREU

Being aware of the globalization and of the loss of memory places, those of genuine identity and part of the national heritage (material and non-material), the purpose of this work is to remember what those places used to be and revitalizing them. In order to rehabilitate a region, Casal do Rebolo (Almargem do Bispo, Sintra) a symbol of the Saloia Region has been selected, a vernacular culture. A phenomenological approach has been taken, based on the current experience, identifying its true meaning to ensure the continuity of the original significance in the intervention.

AIRES MATEUS | Alvalade House

After removing all the objects that don’t increase any value to the place, new elements have been designed producing a new reconnection with the existence. These new volumes naturally arise from the topography and want to solve nonexistent gaps in the region, in response to its recovery. Volumetrically and materially, these spaces keep the place’s essence, transmitting the same existing experience and pointing out relevant areas to the environment. MATERIALITY

TEMPORARY PHYSIOTHERAPY CENTER | CRIATIVE WORKSHOPS | CO-WORKING SPACES REHABILITION AND CONSERVATION ACADEMIC PROJECT |SANTA MARTA MONASTERY, LISBON. 2012 PROF. ARCH. JOSÉ AGUIAR | PROF. ARCH. PEDRO PACHECO

Knowing the anthropological dichotomy existent in a city that has to deal with the hustle of central avenues next to familiar and rural streets, the project pretends to replace a new life to a ‘in between’ space, enclosed by historic walls. This place, Santa Marta’s Monastery, transpires the weight of memory carried by the old nuns and marks of their daily life. Nowadays, the true meaning and essence of this place is still noticeable, that is and was characterized by the presence of vegetation and water lines. HITCHCOCK | Vertigo

The interventention was directed to programmatic issues that would serve a disabled object in the city, located in an area intended to make the connection between different realities. Various sensorial experiences were established, created through the design of these spaces and from natural elements which determine it. Heavy and dense characteristics that the existing situation transmit was not forgotten in the relation with the materiality.

ARTILHARIA 1 COMMUNITY CENTER NEW CONSTRUCTION ACADEMIC PROJECT |LISBON. 2012 PROF. ARCH. CRISTINA VERÍSSIMO | PROF. ARCH. BÁRBARA MASSAPINA

Based on the study done before which held a new urban design, was elected to development a public equipment in a specific area next to a spacious courtyard between blocks. The Artilharia 1 Community Center Aims to service the elderly population life’s, primordial in the neighbourhood. It was also an intention to create an ‘active’ zone with an attractive goal for the younger population. Developing the concept of ‘open it for itself’, was made just in precise locations opennings to the street or to the courtyard in the block. The light and the interior organization starts from three interior patios. Visual connections given through them guide us and emphasize all the horizontal circulations in different levels. Following the concept, every public rooms were positioned next to those outdoor spaces.

THE LINE | 7X24X52 WATER & ICE MUNICIPAL PAVILION FOR WATER AND WINTER SPORTS REHABILITION AND NEW EXTENSION ACADEMIC PROJECT - ERASMUS - MULTIDISCIPLINAR ELOPE PROGRAM|BERN. 2011 PROF. ARCH. CHRISTOPH HOLLIGER

ELOPE program is dedicated to creating a multicultural working teams with people that studied disciplines integrated in a final and real project (engineering, management, ...) In this year, the project and place intend to solve a district problem in Bern. ‘7x24x52 – Water & Ice’ pretends to regenerate and provide to residents better sports conditions, all year and all day long. Creating, also, attractive public spaces for insalubrious days. Thus, was our intention to combine wellness/healthiness to architectural and natural elements as a response to the programmatic redevelopment for a real need. The project focus on the relationship establishesed between the Canal and the city of Bern. The hydraylic system and flows derived from them, are forgotten issues in the presente, that worked as cleaning systems in other decades. The Canal’s idea is to re-connect the city and its territory. Architectural language defined the elements with problems in the infrastructure, reintroducing one new element which connects all services and needs. This new volume ‘floats’ on the ground and preserves the existent materiality. MATERIALITY

BEYOND THE MOTOR HOUSING BLOCKS

NEW CONSTRUCTION ACADEMIC PROJECT |AJUDA, LISBON. 2011 PROF. ARCH. DIOGO BURNAY

The proposal works to continue the logic of small public spaces in the urban environment, courtyards, creating reconciliation between different scales. Aggregated in large scale to manipulate and cause proximity between exterior spaces and its pathways, assuming the entire propose as a path logic, the promenade architecturale. Constructing progressions of space that allow different experiences and appropriations by the difference of its dimensions and materials. Each dimensiono of its structural system, buildings or paths, is obtained through a proportion of AxA2x3A. The smaller ones, exclusivity pedestrian, become larger and make plausible to use them as a mixed circulation, people or cars. In such a system, in which the building structure has double proportion, is possible to work the private areas with the logic of ‘motor’ and to articulate the remaining spaces around them over a continuous circulation logic. Vertical accesses work in right/left to private spaces and are produced as a repetition to solve urban aggregations. MATERIALITY
