TheHon.Reverdy'Hinsonpresided attheDemocraticConservativeMass Meetingheldin1i:dilutor°Onthe15th inst.,andinhisaddressmadestrollsallusiontotheexistenceofthenew Know-nothingorderinMaryland, whichbedismissedbysaying: "There isaninnatestrengthinavirtuouspurposethatintheendprovestoomuch forthecorrupttrickster."Referring tothenominationofMr.JohnLeeCarrollforGovernerofMaryland,Mr. Johnsonsaid:'CiteparticularobjectientoMr.Carrollis,thatheisaCatholic. Theyareaccusaiiinswhlclicannitijme theChurchagainstwhichtheyare directedorprejudicethepeopleofthe colonyagainstherministersorinany wayaffectherillherspiritualcharacters.TheCatholicChurchisfarbeyondthereachofsuchattacks Rstheseandcanaffordtoregard themwiththeutmostunconcern.But itisnotthelessthedutyofher memberstoresentsuchattacks, anddemandthatsheshouldbeprotectedfromthematthehandsofpersons inthepositionofJusticesofthePeace intheveryactofadministeringthelaw.
