Anotherworld-famousnovelisthaspassedawayinthepersonoftheauthorof "TenThousandaYear"and"TheDiary ofaLatePhysician."SamuelWarren, whodiedonSundayeveningathistown residence,wasinhisseventiethyear,havingbeenbornin1807inDenbighshire. EducatedattheUniversityofEdinburgh, befirstadoptedmedicine,batafterwards law,ashisprofession.Whilestudyingfor theBarhecontributedtoBlachwood's Magazinehispowerfulandoften-pathetic sketches,entitled'LeasesfromtheDiary ofaLatePhysician."Fortyyearsagohe wasenrolledasaBarristeroftheInner Temple.Thirty-sixyearsagoheshedcompletedinMagahisliterarymasterpieceof "TenThousandaYear."Thirtyyears backhewroteanotherbrieferantimuch leasAmbitiousnovelcalled"Nowand Then."Andin1851,apropostothe CrystalPalaceinHydePark,pennedhis rhynielessmetricaleffusion(aneccentricity ofauthorship),"TheLillyandtheBee." LAMENTABLECOLLISIONIIITHECHANNEL. TheRightRev,theLordBishopofKerry wasstruckwithparalysisonSaturdayevening,atThePalace.Killarney,whileconsecratingthechapelattachedtotheBaiaof Kenmare'snewmansion,andneverrallied. LouisdesFrancais.TkeAmbassador,who wasatCastellamare,repliedthathehad soughtinstructionsfromhisGovernment, whichwasthenabouttohonorthelateM. ItwouldseemfromMr.STEEREthat theHomeGovernmentwouldbeglad tohaveitsconvictstakenoffitshands, butatacheaperratethanthatat whichitisabletokeepthemitselfand atonewhichwouldoccasionanactual losstothecolony.Thismustberegardedasaverytimelywarningonthe partofMI'.STEERE.Thetermson whichthecolonytakesoverconvicts restreally-thatis,withinthelimitsof fairnessandreason-withtheColonial Government.Asthemembersofthis Governmentarehoweverallappointed fromLome,theymightbedisposed,if thepublicdidnotkeepasharpeyeon them,tobetooeasy.It'isnotevery onewhowilllookassharplyafterthe interestsofthecolonyandfightevery inchofgroundwiththeEnglish CommissaryasMr.BARLEE.
