12.Catechesisisataskofvitalimportancefor allthechurch.AlChristians,accordingtothecircumstancesoftheirownlivesandtheirspecialgifts orcharisms,arereallyinvolvedinit.
IndeedallChristians,byvirtueofbaptismand confirmation,arecalledtotransmitthegospeland tobeconcernedaboutthefaithoftheirbrothers inChrist,especiallychildrenandyoungpeople.
Sometimesthismayresultinconflictsanddivisionswhichariseforavarietyofreasons.

13.Thenormalplaceorscumsofcatechesisis theChristiancommunity.Ca-rheasisnotsimply anindividualtask;itisalwayscarriedoutinthe Christiancommunity.

14.Thebishophasthepnmaryroleintheatecancelactivityofthelocalchurch.Itishistask toco-ordinatetheactivityofallwhodedicatethemselvestocatechesisinhisownlocalchurch.
Buthehimselfmustalsocatechise.Alongwith him,allintheirownways,mustcollaborateinthe ministryofcatechesis.Noonecanaccomplish thetaskbyhimself,sinceitdemandstheenergies ofmany.
Eachone,accordingtohisorherfunctionand charism,contributestothesamemission,thebishop withhispriests,deacons,parents,catechistsand animatorsofChristiancommunities.
Inthiscontext,consecratedpersonscanandmust makeaninvaluablecontributiontothechurchin variousways.Inmanycountries,catechistsshare withthepriestsinthefunctionofdirectingthe Christi.community.
Inunionwiththebishops,theyassumeresponsibilityfortransmittingthefaith.
Thesynodreaffirmstoalltheimportanceoftheir missionandvoicesthehopethatallwillreceivethe helpandunderstandingtheyneed.Thesynodasks thatthisministryorofficeshouldnotbeassumed withoutpriorformation.
Thisformationmusthetruetothedoublegoal ordimensionofcatechesis:fidelitytoGodand fidelitytoman.Thisdemandsaformationinthe sacredsciences,aswellasaknowledgeofthehuman person,adaptedaccordingtotheneedsofnations andenvironmentsandincludingknowledgeofthe humansciences.
15.Today'sworldischaracterisedbydiversity. Itiscomposedofpeoplewhohavedifferentsocial andpoliticalsystems.Fromthereligiouspointof viewitisequallypluralistic.
CatechesismustprepareChristianstofacethis diversityandthispluralism.InthisregardChristiansmustbeeducatedtoasenseoftheirownidentity:theyarebaptised,believers,membersofthe church. Itwillloontheminasensitiveopennessto dialoguewhichisbothrespectfulatothersandfully faithfultothetruth.
ncountermorefrequently,catechesismustdevelop nattitudeofreverenceandunderstanding;itshould developanattitudeoflisteninganddiscerningthe seedoftheword"whichtheycontain.
Inorderthatyoungpeoplemaybenefitfromthe knowledgeofnon-Christianreligionsand,even moreparticularly,inthecaseofvariousmaterialisticschoolsofthought,itisnecessaryforthemto receive,undertheguidanceofthebishops,very seriouspreparationwithrespecttotheirownCatholicdoctrine,andtobesuitablyformedinprayer andthelivingoftheChristianlife.

16.Inthefaceoftoday'smaterialistic,secularisticoratheistictendenciesaswellascertaintotalitarian humanismswhichsuffocatethetruehumandimensionoftheperson,catechesismustbefoundedon aChristianvisionofhumankindandtheworld.

Anauthenticopennesssupposesanddemandsa profoundawarenessofourownChristianidentity whichimplieswithitaitnessandmission.
17.Alcatechesisismissionary,notjustbecause itleadstoconsiderationofothercommunitieslivingindifferentenvironments,butalsobe.use,by openingmindstothegoodoftheuniversalchurch, itfostersmissionaryvocations.
