Ihavestillbeforemyeyesandinmyheartthe "presbyterate"ofthechurchofCracow:allourmeetingsonvariousoccasions;thenumeroustalksthathad theirbeginningrightfromtheyearsintheseminary; themeetingsofpriests;ordiaationgroupsofeachof theseminaryclasses,towhichwasalwaysinvitedand inwhichtookpartwithjoyandbenefit.

Itwillcertainlynotbepossibletotreaderallthat here,inthenewconditionsofwork,butwemustdo ourutmosttobedose,toformthe"unum,"priestly communion,composedofallthediocesanandReligiousclergy,andofallthepriestsfromvariousparts oftheworldwhoworkintheRomanCuriaandwho alsodedicatethemselvessolicitouslytothepastoral ministry.

BASISOFUNION

Thiscommunionofpriestsamongthemselvesand withthebishopisthefundamentalconditionofunion amongthewholepeopleofGod,itconstructsitsunity inpluralismandinChristiansolidarity.

Theunionofpriestswiththebishopmustbecome thesourceofthefutualunionofpriestsamongthemselvesandofgroupsofpriests. Dearbrothers,wemustloveourpriesthoodfrom thebottomofourheart,assgreat"socialsacrament." Wemustloveitastheessenceofourlifeandofour vocation,asthebasisofourChristianandhuman identity.

Noneofuscanbedividedinhimself.Thesacramentalpriesthood,theministerialpriesthood,calls forparticularfaith,forparticularcommitmentofall theforcesofbodyandsoul,forspecialawarnesssof one'svocation,asanexceptionalvacation.

Butconvivialjoyshaveawayofdisappearing andoncethepartyisover,weretumtothe nitty-grittyworldbesetwithsocialandeconomicproblemsaswellaspersonalones.
