Earlystageadvised

Oneproblemofpeoplewithmaritalproblems notusingtheserviceislackofself-esteemand self-confidence.

Thisfeelingofhelplessnessandfailureis exacerbatedbyprolongedmaritaltension.

Itisimportantthatcommunityleaders,such asdoctors,lawyersandtheclergyusetheirinfluencetogetpeopletoconsidercounsellingat anearlystageoftheirmaritalproblemandgive themrealisticexpectationsofwhatmaybe achievedbyit.

TheGovernmentisproudtohavehelpedin developingmarriagecounsellingservicesinAustraliatotheirpresentimpressivelevel.

AlatimewhentightrestraintonGovernmentexpenditureisnecessary,itispleasingto reportthatfundsmadeavailableforgrantsto approvedmarriagecounselling-organisations havecontinuedtoincrease,yearbyyear.This yeartheytotalled$2.231million. Moreimpressivestillistheoutreachofthe approvedagencies.Arecentdepartmentalsurveyhasshown,rathertomysurprise,thatabout 10,35millionpeople-some74percentof he'Australianpopulation.-havequiteconvenientgeographicaccesstomarriagecounselingservices.

ThesurveyindicatesthatthroughoutAustralia,only23statisticalareas,whichhavepopulationsexceeding10,000,donothaveacounsellingserviceprovidedbyanapprovedorganisation.
