SYDNEY.-Australiansmustchangethewaytheyliveifthere Istobeanequalsharingoftheworld'sresources,BishopJohnGerry toldtheAustralianbishops'halfyearlymeetinglastweek.

BishopGerry,chairman ofAustralianCatholicRelief,saidthatitwasnot enoughforAustralians merelytogivemoneytoorganisationsthatprovided food,clothing,medicineand financialassistancetounderprivilegedpeople.

Thisalonewouldnot maketheworldamorejust placeforeveryone.

"Thesefundsareuseless if,atthesametime,wein Australiaaretakingactions thatleadtoareinforcementoftheconditionsthat areresponsibleforthepovertyinwhichthemajority ofourworldfindsitself," hesaid.

"Thesolutionstotheproblemsofpovertyandinjusticearenotsimple."

"Regrettablytheywill notbefoundeasilyand quickly.

"Weinthemoreaffluent countrieswillhavetomake considerablechangesinour ownlifestylesandmethods ofconsumptionifthenis tobeanequitablesharing oftheworld'sresources.
