MA Year 2 Semester 1 Urban Design Report- Dingle
A key tenet of the masterplan was to increase the health and well-being of the area through a multiprogrammed approach involving activity, social and the promotion of healthy eating. An urban farm located centrally between the community buildings in the neighbourhood will strive to educate residents in urban agriculture, as well as provide cheaper access to healthy food, to improve the diets of the inner-city.
The arrangement of this farm should produce a wide variety of food for export and local consumption, whilst contributing employment and education to those same people. The Aquaponics labs along the street will also provide a centre for research to be linked with the universities, furthering academia in the city.
A second allotment area is to be provided to the school for educational use, with the rest of the park improved to be a more enticing area for local use.
