Finn Buus Steffensen, NIRAS FIRE SAFETY ENGINEERING “Such events are useful in the sense that you can address the people who actually build the buildings and propose new ideas and new approaches, introduce concepts like performance based issues. As I understand it, you don’t have performance based codes in Romania, and I felt great interest in the concept of performance based, you perhaps do something else. If we look at Denmark say 1520 years ago we had the same set of codes that you have. If you look at the number of countries that have introduced performance based codes, it’s like 8 countries in the world: Norway, Sweden, Denmark, England, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, Hong Kong. So it’s very new. Denmark is a small country and we do a lot of jobs abroad. We want to be first in new technology. There’s no doubt in my mind that performance based codes is the future, we’ve just started it early. It’s a universal language. Because a fire in Romania will develop and the smoke will spread the same way as in Denmark. The whole idea is that we have one language to describe and analyse fire and fire safety. That’s what performance based code can do. You don’t need national building codes. You just need a building code to say that your bulding will have to be safe in case of fire. It is your responsibility to document. What does it take to make this transition? The keyword here is education. And here is where the conference comes in. I come and tell that there’s a different way to do it and of course people are curious. They experience
the same agony that we did twenty years ago because we had these requirements that we didn’t understand. There’s another way.”
Finbar Murphy, ARUP “To be more visibile to the market. We do a lot of work and we have lots of friends in the little community in which we work, but outside that community we don’t know much about, unless we tell people. So this is the first thing. You need to be able to be put in a situation where people are present at events and you get the opportunity to tell about the work we do.To some extent there’s also an element of teaching as well. I have a simple presentation describing the work we’ve done and some key aspects about which we have learnt from, and the main thing is to, without going into too much detail, share all this learning experience with everybody else and get some feedback.“
Nicoleta Turiac, ABB “In Romania, we are unfortunately quite little known in this area but we have many reference projects abroad, as I said in my presentation, there is a continuing development of residential projects. We want to make ourselves known in Romania as well, because we have a very good local team, we have expanded the business by increasing the number of employees in this segment and we want to make ourselves known in a field in which the group is actually very present, less so in Romania, unfortunately. We want to be close to the students as well, because in Romania we collaborate well with other universities, polytechnics in particular, we want to support architecture because we believe that we have many things to say. I tried to be very concise in my presentation, I did not go into technical details the range of which
is so great. Instead, I presented the main elements, followed by later discussions at the stand with my colleagues who are specialists.”

Between February and April 2014, over 10 specialised magazines have published 54 articles about the fourth edition of CONTRACTOR Installation Entrepreneurs Expo Conference. The considerable increase in the number of materials in March is largely due to the news dedicated to the special guests and companies, as well as the and press release.

The articles also referred to the best practice examples of installations in Poland, Denmark and Romania. From a number viewpoint, most materials were published in specialised magazines such as Tehnica Instalatiilor, Instal Focus, Arena Constructiilor, Instal News, Instalatorul, Electricianul, Proiectare Instal, Firme de construcții, IBC Focus and Spațiul Construit. The most important articles about the special guests appeared both in the specialised as well as the national media. The most important articles have referred to the Museum of the History of Polish Jewish in Warsaw and the fire safety installation project designed for the Copenhagen Concert Hall.

In counclusion, the fourth edition of CONTRACTOR, organized by Events Abplus, has been promoted in the national media as well as the specialized media.
