Where Bangalore, India

Who Akshat Bhatt

How With a mandate to explore sustainable building principles, and remain on a very tight budget, this structure was also meant to be onsite for a mere six years, before being moved elsewhere. So the solution was to assemble it in component parts. The building also had to preview the character of the future development, express its innovation, and convince investors to join in. This of course suggested a large red egg-shaped auditorium set within a lotus pond. This is matched with a long-span shed clad in fritted glass panels. Photovoltaics provide power, greywater is recycled, and earthcooled air circulates automatically.

Why A lot of building for just six years use, but the client was thinking big. The functionality of the shed – underscored by its environmental attributes – acts like an exemplar for what’s to come after it. The relationship between the giant box and the red egg is intriguing, as if the former had just laid the latter, and was observing it protectively.
